This morning was the first day I experienced the buttery taste in the back of my mouth. It started after I ate one of the egg white sandwiches from McDonald's.  I have no idea if the sandwich had anything to do with the buttery taste, but it started in the middle of the sandwich. I just thought at first that someone put quite a bit on butter on the sandwich by mistake. Then I noticed it would not go away after a bottle of water, coffee, lunch, another bottle of water, and a cup of hot tea.  I have no idea what this is but I would like for it to go away, but judging how long some of you had to deal with it I know that it won't be gone over night. I'm healthy as well.  Has anyone figured out the cause, or better yet how to get rid of the taste?

I too have experienced a buttery taste and feel in my mouth for about the last 3 months. It does not seem to be just any one food.

The last 24hours I have had the same buttery aftertaste, it seemed to develop after I ate lunch out at a good quality restaurant yesterday, I had a vegetarian lasagne. I also developed an upset stomache and experienced some diarrhea in the afternoon/evening, but I'm fine today. My health is good, never smoked. I do take seretide (for the past 20 years). I would love to get rid of this buttery aftertaste. I have read all the posts and I still don't know the cause and what to do to get rid of it.

To everyone who is experiencing a milky taste in your mouth no matter what you try or do to get rid of it...quick answer:Basically if you have milky taste in your mouth then something is affecting your saliva glands, good chance it could be puss filled abscess or spot that is the culprit and it may be hiding nearby,if it's not teeth, gums, sinus, fungal infection or diabetic issuesMy experience was of a bad puss filled spot / abscess hiding in my ear cartilage.Tracing everything back it went like this -began to notice milky taste in mouth 1 week ago (I do not drink milk)within a day or 2 of noticing milky taste, my left ear started slowly leaking blood cleaned it up and kept an eye on it as I get random spots like that from time to timeconstant bathing with warm water and checking with finger pressure found the culpritafter a few days a head formed and eventually it popped, this spot was a through and throughwhich explained why my ear bleed on the inside and not the outside.what I did not realise was this spot had caused a lot of pressure in my head which I only noticed on the first release of yuckanother week later and changing my diet to include lots of the good stuff and dropped all sugar in take,(lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, scotch bonnet(small) coconut oil, lots of garlic - lighted fried and added to soup is nice and effective)Essentially I tried to give my body the tools to fight this infection off itself, before I went to the doc'sDuring all of this I suffered the milky taste, only now is it starting to fade.In short the pressure in my head and ear area is now hardly noticeableand the milky taste (in my case) is associated with a bad puss infection which is nearto my saliva glands thus affecting tasteso for all you people out there with milky taste, check the followingAbscess in gums or teeth or recent dental work, fungal infection?if you have no obvious saliva issues associated with diabetes, oral thrushthen check for any bad / sore areas or spots in or around the jaw, ear or sinusesdon't forget the possibility of diabetes tooOh if you still have no idea be sure to visit the doc's to get treated, hopefully the above info maybe of help to your doc to help diagnose :)

I can't believe I just found this post. This is exactly what has been happening me for the past couple of days,  It's like a fatty/buttery feeling in my mouth and I'm wondering if it's the frequent amount of Tilapia I've been eating. I believe this fish is similar to salmon in it's Omega 3 Fatty Acids, so I'm sure this is the cause!

I just googled 'butter taste in my mouth' and was suprised to see others were also suffering with this. Has anyone discovered the cause for this buttery taste. How long has it lasted for everyone? Will I be having it for months, weeks or day? It has been a week already!

I would start to look to Geoengineering.  It very well could be the cause, this phenominon is popping up more and more lately.  Try drinking RO water to see if that has the taste as well, just for curiosity.  But perhaps, just perhaps, those plane trails aren't just "contrails".

I couldn't believe that others are experiencing the same buttery after taste. As someone else commented, it is pleasant but not natural. The mention of pine nuts makes me think it could possibly be the culprit. Recently have been eating a lot of hummus with pine nuts. My spouse and I experienced a severe pine nut reaction a few years ago that confirmed for us that pine nuts can cause strange taste and smell issues. I am a healthy 50-something trying to eat healthy, organic foods and we have eliminated all GF foods, corn, soy, peanuts, and reduced our sugar. Perhaps it's the pine nuts? I will give it a couple of weeks and see if it clears up.

I just travelled to Chile where I experienced the weird buttery taste in my mouth.  When I returned to the US it went away.  I think it may have to do something with the food I was eating.  The butter in Chile did taste different and had a more yellow color than the butter we have in the US, but I didn't eat more butter than usual when I was there.

I only eat fresh non processed food and I have the same, just at ea banana that tasted like it was smothered in butter. I take omega 3 fish oils everyday so maybe the fish oil thing is the common factor

I too had a cold and for the past week or so have had this buttery after taste in my mouth. I have never had this before and have not changed anything in diet. Very odd. I hope it goes away. Glad it isn't a yucky aftertaste.
