I posted a few months ago saying that I was going to stick it out for the year in-spite of the constant OBs I keep having along with all the other side effects. I was hoping that as the months went on it would have gotten better, but it has not. I am taking 1000mg of Valtex a day and still have itching in my bum. I got my blood test back today and found out my white blood count was low. Looked it up and found it that is caused by viral infections. That some that are severe enough...your body will use more than it can make. Hence low white blood count. Not good. Not not only am I dealing with constant H issues, but my white blood cells are low, my hair has been falling out, I gained weight, my face and scalp broke out from all the extra oil my skin was producing. I am 5 months into this and my quality of life has not gotten better enough to keep this thing. Especially because of H. Let me also say that I have been bleeding/spotting and having a period for 4 of the 5 months. I have been tracking my stuff daily and have only have 24 days when I did not have some form of blood coming out of me. I could list more c**p that extra progesterone has done to me...but I will stop here. I just wanted to let you ladies know that I reached my breaking point and am having it removed. I tolerate most things well and my body does a good job are adapting...but in this case...no dice.

The same thing happened to me a couple months after getting mirena. It was the same as you initially described, a blistery sore above my pubic hair. I initially thought I was bit by some kind of bug or spider and dismissed it. But then another one came a couple months later. I wish this could get to the FDA and a study be conducted. If it puts you at risk of dormant herpes surfacing, people should know about this before choosing to get it inserted!

UPDATE... I a posting this so that others who find this will know. This will be my last post.
It has been over 4 months now since I had the IUD removed. The first few months I was still having issues but things have been slowly getting better. Slooooowly... but they are. I don't take Valtrex 1gram a day anymore. Only when I feel the virus. Note: I posted about being 44 and having HSV2 for 20+ yrs and was doing fine till the IUD. Stuck it out for 5 months of OB hell and now I am 4 months with it out. I am so glad it is behind me now.

So I knew prior to my IUD insertion I had HSV1 G (gift from a boyfriend who decided to not tell me he had it prior to having sex with him and then pretending he got it from me, found out he had it all along but I digress) and take a valtrex daily since I have a stressful job and stress makes me have the sores. However when I have my mirena inserted I was also on anti-biotics for a sinus cold. In the last 3 years it seemed that most anti-biotics caused me to get yeast infections and these pain weird bumps that were either hard or like pimples on my labia. The hard lumps hurt badly, and the pimples I likened to "acne" but would subside if I took a diflucan or used the creams for yeast infections. However within 3 days of the iud I had horrible tenderness in my vaginal area, and knew my issue was bartholin cast's "erupting" . By new years day I actually had a hard, pus like lump break through the size of a quarter that almost made me faint. The area healed quickly thankfully but I know this wasn't herpes. I do suspect some of the more acne like ones were herpes but these happened about 2 months later and boy did they hurt too. I had my iud removed and within a week the acne type were gone. I suffer from prolonged and very heavy periods (I mean heavy at some points where I have to change a super tampon and pad within 20 minutes). Sex prior to the new years Christmas eruption was so painful I couldn't handle having it and I think it's a combination of the largest fibroid AND bartholin cyst issues. Read up on bartholin cysts and see your doc, maybe they can help!

As an aside, for the ladies who are finding out they have HSV please do not look to blame yourselves or your husbands. This virus can be in our body from the day we are born and lay dormant in wait to strike your body at its weakest time. Women experience more painful symptoms than men (mine were flu like and the most painful nerve pain in my legs, the leg pain lasted for over a year off and on too). And as some have said you could have caught it 20 years ago and never have known, while most think the virus is only active with open sores it is good to note that the virus can shed itself at anytime so being open and honest with any partner is a must. I have had it for 4 years now, 2 years of which it took me to start to learn about it and come to terms with it, plus forgive myself, and it took 2 years for me to even consider dating again as I felt very gross and disgusting because society let's be honest people who don't know about the disease have a lot of misinformation in their head. We're not bad people, we just have to manage better with our emotions and mind and be healthy all around. I am sorry any of you have the hsv virus as I don't wish this on my worst enemies, but you're still lovely and amazing ladies!

Hi, I am 26 years old. I have been married for 8 years and I have 2 kids my youngest just turned 2. I am also a nurse. I was just diagnosed with herpes 1 and 2. And I'm trying to find out if the mirena has anything to do with it. I wasn't virgin when I married my husband and have been faithful to him. My husband had several partners before me so before we got married, I had him get std tested. He claims all his test were normal. So when I discovered my diagnosis I immediately assumed that he had cheated on me and began the divorce process. Well he went and got tested and he came back negative to both herpes 1 and 2. I was stunned. So I ask for a retest and just got my results back and they have changed from my first results but still a low positive. I have had chicken pox as a child and being in the medical field have been exposed to people with shingles all the time. I just got the mirena 10 months ago. I am now being test via western blot bc I have been faithful to my husband and now I know he has been faithful to me. I'm also going to a rheumatologist. These post about testing positive after receiving the mirena are very intriguing. It's was actually my husband's idea to research this, (the divorce is off). Also beginning to think that maybe I was born with this virus. Oh and I have never had a herpes outbreak of hsv1 or hsv2 but I have been having other symptoms that led Doctors to believe that I have an autoimmune issue and herpes was the only test that came back positive. Follow up question: has anyone's partners come back negative for herpes. I find it strange that after 8 years and 2 kids that my husband is negative for herpes or even exposure to herpes as active as we are.

I don’t know if you’re still on this site but yes. I had the same experience. I was a healthy 23 year old and got Mirena in 2013. A week later I started having outbreaks almost constantly. A year after that, severe pelvic pain (specifically clitoral pain), I have been struggling with yeast infection since. I can’t seem to get rid of it fully after extreme diets for years, boric acid, tons of probiotics from food, pills, you name it. I read recently about silicone toxicity from Mirena. Maybe it triggered the outbreaks in all of us? I got Mirena removed in 2015. Still the same symptoms. I’m on 2 grams of Valacyclovir everyday and that’s the only thing that has stopped the outbreaks and lessened the clitoral pain so I can at least sometimes have sex and exercise.

You guys are not alone .. I have had the IUD for only a month and out of no where I started getting these pimples around my thighs so I decided to get a blood test and it came out positive for herpes 1 .. I’m a really healthy woman and even though I came out positive for herpes 1 I believe that these are just one of the side effects of the IUD.. doctors just don’t know what it is and just think it’s herpes.

I have been with the same man for 2 years. We were having unprotected sex in Nov of 2016 knowing that we were both clean the last time we had gotten tested. I got tested again for my yearly in February of 2017 and my doc told me about the iud was being covered by my insurance and if I'd like to try it. I told her i would let her know. I got my results and everything was perfect. The only thing that came up was the cold sore virus which i was born with and that was dormant. I have NEVER had a cold sore on my mouth. I then decided to put the iud so i made my appointment in march. 3 DAYS later I broke out. I paniced and saw my doc the day it happened! I waited 3 long days for the result and that when I found out I had type 2 herpes. I told me doc that I personally thought the IUD made me break out and she told me that was impossible. Please if this has happened to you write about this. sh*t always comes to light years later saying that these products end up killing people or giving cancer. Doc need to research this! What if trail periods for the IUD was done on perfectly healthy people. What is the study is done with people with the cold sore virsus and it turns into type 2 people have the right to know!!! Or doc can inform people with color sore viruses that they are not a candidate for the IUD. Idk I know I could have been cheated on but he said he hasn't been with anyone else and when we were both tested everything was fine... I regret getting the IUD..

This has also happened to me!
I was a healthy 28 year old. I got the Mirena inserted, and then seven months later, I get my first outbreak, shockingly diagnosed with HSV 2. I have had 1.5 years of agonising herpes outbreaks since. I’m going to have it removed. Here is hoping it will stop these damn back to back outbreaks! We need to spread the message. How do we start a class action on this, if anything, for awareness to others???
