Due to bells palsy 10 years ago my left eye closes slightly when talking or eating.I am very concious of this and it does affect me in social situations.I have had botox injections around the eye but was not very successful as this sometimes caused the eye lid to droop. Is there any kind of operation that could be performed be it to the nerves or even some kind of plastic surgery.Even after 10 years i still find it hard to accept. Please help

Hello jalin,
I'm a neuroscientist and there are no surgeries that I'm aware of that can be done to stop your eyelid from drooping. However, facial exercises are important for salvaging any muscle that has innervation by the nervous system. The more you exercise your eye/eyelid the more control you may gain. Try raising your eye up and down and blinking as much as you can to get those muscles working. This is not a cure but it is possible that you gain some muscle control. Blink your eye as much as you can. As time goes by, you will tend to blink your eye almost as a refex. Once you see improvement stop blinking and try to remove the habit.
