Back in 1979, I got very ill, found out I had T.S.S my white count shot thru the roof.. Doctors wanted to cut me open, then said its cancer, then luekemia, then they did not know. I have had a high white count now for 27 years. I know it gets higher beleive it or not, when my teeth need cleaning, or when my ashtma acts up. I have friends who also have high white count and have ashma as well.. Is this a coralation? I do not know, but I just went to a new doctor and he panicked as well when he saw the results and sent me to lots and lots of new doctors, in the last 3 weeks, and they can not find anything wrong.. So,, I have a dentist appt this week and i am taking my ashma meds and allergy pills again.. In 3 weeks I go back.. and I bet they will be down again.. The doctors tell me its phooy.. oh well. we shall see.. Good luck and do not panic.. it only causes stress and makes it worse..

I came in for a Dr's appointment week of May 21 complaining of headaches. Doctor sent me for a blood test and it came back with a high white blood cell count and high platelet count. Doctor said I was probably fighting off infection but could not account for abnormal platelet count. So I'm going for another roun blood tests end of June which includes checking WBC, Hemoglobin levels and a test called protein electrophoresis.
Doctor compared my recent blood test to the one I had last year for my physical and he noted that the WBC was also abnormally high.
Recently too, I've been noticing tiny red pin pricks under my skin, mostly on my forearms which I figured out to be petechiae. Also, I've had some weird bruising around my armpit which I've never had before: a few small round bruises that come and go in a week's time.
I've been reading about blood disorders that present with such symptoms and the one that keeps popping up is leukemia. I am very worried. Is anyone having similar problems?
I am in my early twenties, male of Asian background.

Not trying to upset you, but from your feeling sick, high wbc and family history I would insist to see a specialist asap. Eventhough you are only 23. I am sure you are familiar with leukemia.

I went to the doctor for a sprained ankel. The doctor took blood work because I havent been to the dr in 3 years. He called me and told me my white blood count was 1,700 and asked if I felt ok. I said I felt fine. He asked me to come back again, so I did. He called me with the resalts and said it came down to 1,300. I went back a third time, and it came back high again. now he wants to do more tests. I feel fine and my foot is better. I have no symtoms of any ilness. I am feeling depressed because I want to be left alone, but I know we need to figure out what is wrong.

Somehow, posting on this site helps take some of the worry off.
As a follow-up on my earlier post, my second blood test results came back. Regarding the different tests, they all came back normal except for the WBC. My doctor says it's still high, not especially high but high enough to warrant further tests. I think he's not telling me something but maybe I'm just paranoid. I'm going for an abdominal ultrasound, I guess to check for organ enlargement. I'm also scheduled for a visit to a hematologist for more blood tests.
Also, I've been noticing some splotchy redness on my lower legs and forearm. It's not particularly obvious and I haven't told my doctor about it yet. I guess Im hoping it's a rash and that it will go away, but every week it spreads a little bit and gets slightly more pronounced.
Here's hoping the next round of tests yield positive results so I can stop worrying.

When they checked your thyroid, did they check your thyroid antibodies? Look up Hashimoto's thyroditis. When my doctor checked my thyroid initially, my tsh came back normal. But he knew that I had all the signs of this disease, so he sent me back to have the antibodies checked. THEY WERE OUT THE ROOF!!!

I have gone through the same thing for 5 years now. WBC is anywhere between 11 and 14. When it first happened, I was terrified, but my blood was done )after the 5th test) with a periphrial (spelling) smear and everything looked normal. I do take medication for high blood pressure and just recently found out that the medicine I take can raise the WBC. Never the less every year I dread going to the doctor because I know she will freak out about my WBC again. Last year she wanted me to take a TB test, and ended up taking 4 hugh vials (2 out of each arm) blood and tested for viruses and bacteria. I had neither bacteria or viruses present, so I am hoping not to go through all the drama again this year.

Hi I was just reading your post and was wondering how you got on?

I don't even know where to start but I will try. Back in Feb I was told by my PCP that she wanted me to see a cancer doc to have a bone marrow bio done. She said that my WBC count was 14 and it had been for a few months. So I go and have blood done there. The tests came back pos. for AML. He did a bone marrow bio. and it came back clear. Well for my next blood work it came back as WBC 15. The cancer doc I was seeing moved out of state so I was put with a new one. That one told me to have BW done on Sept 1. I did . Now my WBC is 17.9 I am so confused and I don't know if I should find another Doc or what. I mean if I do have AML should I not be doing something to treat it?I know you all are not DOCS but I just need someone to tell me if they have gone thru this. I'm 34 and My mother died at 38 from cancer. She was told for 6 months not to worry it was a swollen milk gland and it would go away. When she went to another doc it was to late and it was stage 3 breast cancer. I don't want to wait and then be told I have 6 months to live.
If you have read this far thanks so much. I am scared and I don't know what to do.
