I have travelled a lot around south America and I have always been worried about catching Chagas' disease, despite counter measures that I have always taken. I now hear that Chagas' disease infection is caused by the haemoflagellate Trypanosoma cruzi. Do you know anything about that? I'd love to hear your take.

The bug that caused the disease is called Trypanosoma cruzi. There are in fact many similar bugs around the world causing similar diseases, like the African Sleeping Bug, if you have heard of it before. Very interesting to see how these bugs on different continents are so closely related - like they are cousins. The symptoms are quite different, but just as nasty.
