Hi, I am 41 years old, and I developed cherry angioma on my trunk. It is still very small, but I’m afraid that it will enlarge. A doctor said that I don’t need a surgery and he cautery (burning the lesion off) will help me. I am wondering which treatment of cherry angiomas has greater risks.

Hi, I had cherry angioma not so long ago. This is a tuft of blood vessels that causes a red bump on the skin. I used a treatment called cryotherapy, and it was very effective. It is the freezing of the lesion with the liquid nitrogen. The other treatments are electrosurgery and laser vaporization. I don’t think that there are some serious risks with cherry angiomas, they are in most cases harmless and benign. Some complications may appear, such as changing in appearance, psychological distress and bleeding, but most often a treatment doesn’t even leave a scar. So, I wouldn’t worry about the risks if I were you. If your doctor recommended you cautery for removing cherry angioma, you should do it.
