Hi Tori. First let me mention, I'm not a doctor. However I have done extensive research on several natural substances to address my MS. In doing so, I have inadvertently found out a lot about other conditions. I believe that any & all information is valuable, and potentially, interconnected..... so I, even if I find the article/study etc is going down the wrong path. I actually found about 1/2 the answers to my MS while trying to point theirs in the right direction for their condition.
Anyway, I digress. You should look into Omega 3 fatty acids. I prefer to use the ALA form (Flax(seed) oil). Also have the doctors test your blood for your B12 level. Now in the United States, "normal" is considered to be 200-900ng/ml or maybe it's pg/ml... regardless, the #'s are correct. The problem with these guidelines is they are inadequate. Most of the Civilized world says 500/550-1200 is "normal'. Here's the thing. anything below 450ng/l (pg/ml) can result in neurological issues.
So you don't want the "normal" / "not normal"/abnormal designators, you need the #'s. Then you want to get your levels, imo to 650-1,000 ng/l - pg/ml I tend to NOT like the cyanocobalamin type of B12... imo, there can be liver issues, etc... not good, plus putting cyanide in your body w/o real need, seems... well.... stupid. cyanocobalamin is 1 molecule of methylcobalamin (the bio-available & best form of B12 for the human body) and 1 molecule of cyanide. You get the shot, then your body, specifically your liver, needs to separate the cyanide from the methylcobalamin, & dispose of the cyanide. IF your liver is not functioning optimally, or as well as it should, it might not do the disposal part so efficiently, resulting in a buildup of cyanide in your liver, eventually killing it. This is uncommon, but certainly a concern. Better to just go with methylcobalamin in the 1st place. IMO.
These 2 steps should at least minimize your issues.
Oh, disclaimers... both B12 and Omega 3's can tend to cause insomnia-like issues, especially if taken too late in the day, si I always take mine 1st thing in the AM. Also, Omega 3's prevent blood platelet aggregation (stickiness) so if you are on any blood thinners, or a hemophiliac, you need to discuss w/ your physician how you can safely take Omega 3's....
I hope this helps you, or someone.
