My ear clicking started after having a cold (about 4 /5 months ago), sneezing quiet bad one day and I think caused minor breaks in the ear drums. It varies a lot from a few clicks every now and then to more. Thing is with me though is that the clicking (like little static sounds) goes bonkers when certain sounds are made, eg: the kettle boiling, running water, some TV noises. I think it's related to a certain frequency of sound. I have booked in to see the Doc but (as usual) have to wait nearly three weeks for this. Meanwhile I have been trying to pick out other sounds that speed it up and the minute I concentrate on it, it doesn't happen ! It's like the act of concentrating seems to stop it happening. Having read all the other comments I think that unless it's causing pain, sleep loss or other, it's just something you have to live with (or, if it works for you - concentrate on it ! )

I've had the same problem for the past several years. I read somewhere that mucinex helped someone so I tried it and in about a week it was completely gone. It does come on once in a while but then I just take some mucinex and it goes away.
give it a try :) I tried everything and this was the only thing that helped me.
fyi- I also have a deviated septum on the same side so maybe my ear doesn't drain right. noticed if I hear lound music it comes back too. so get some earplugs and carry them everywhere just so it wont return.

I had this about a month go. I thought it was from the jacuzzi or our pool. So I got some drops from food matters a herb etc store. It help and just now the clicking has stop. But it's more like a drum with a quick rhythm. I'm going to try to get some sleep now but it's very troublesome to have this in my life.

I have had this clicking for about a week now and I do remember blowing my nose last week and feeling a popping in my ear. It is very annoying. I'm going to clean up my diet. I don't eat sugar or processed foods but I'm going to cut back on dairy and grains. I don't suggest this to anyone but I have been taking echinacea and goldenseal, two herbs for years for any infection I may have and it almost always works,

I am not suggesting anyone do this BECAUSE IF THERE IS A HOLE OR TEAR YOU DO NOT WANT TO DROP ANYTHING IN YOUR EAR SEE A DOCTOR FOR ADVICE. ....but I couldn't take the sound anymore so I dropped the contents of a garlic and parsley oil pearl/pod, whatever it is called and also a few drops of echinacea tincture in my ear and put cotton in it. The sound went away immediately. I try to stay away from medications as much as possible, using food and herbs first.

I just stumbled upon this page looking for answers about the clicking in both my ears. I have had the clicking for about 15 years, with no recurring ear infections. I'm curious if you found and answers or ways to eliminate the sound. Mine seems worse in my right ear, but constant in both. I average around 15-20 clicks a minute.

Me too, Guest. My ear clicking occurs every time I swallow or open my mouth. I have been experiencing that as well as constant pressure on my ears like they are plugging, like I am descending on an airplane and I have to constantly "Yawn" to "clear" them. I have gone to ENTs, dentists, jaw specialists, allergists, you Name it. My nose is fine, my throat is fine, my ears are fine, I don't have TMJ, I have allergies but they are managed by sprays and pills, My bite is fine, etc.

I have been experiencing this for 18+ years. No one has an answer except "congestion" it's a crock. they all refer me to someone else. I research on the internet and it seems there are sooooo many people with the same experiences, but NO answers. There are worse things in the world but I can't believe there isn't a set of doctors out there who aren't clueless. I am thinking of going to the Mayo Clinic.

Hi Deb,

Had this surgery in January and it didn’t work for me either. Had tensor tempani and stapedius muscle cut. Had fluttering and clicking. Curious if you had any successful treatment with another doctor?

I have had ringing in the ears for years. I tried lipoflavinoid for almost a year; no help for me.

Most ENT's are worthless and WILL look at you like you are making up your symptoms. Leave, walk out and never go back. In fact, make sure others know these doctors don't care enough about you or their oath to honestly tell you they don't know and can't help. But to tell you that you are making it up is absolute BS and it has happened to me over the rare diseases I had (and still have).

Hello I’ve had a constant clicking sound in my ear for 7 years. Been to several ents they give me the same run around so fed up I just did my own research. I’m not sure if the symptoms have disappeared but you most likely have a eustachian tube dysfunction. Which an ent won’t be able to see unless they do x rays.
