I've had the mirena since October of 2008. Since December of 2011, I've had UTI's constantly! I've been on antibiotics since the beginning of Jan.2012. I have the mirena. I've also asked my Dr. if the mirena could be causing my infections. She looked at me like I'm crazy! I've been having alot of pain in my vaginal area, nausea, and fever. I am scheduled for a pap on May 3. I'm hoping they find out what's causing it. I am seriously thinking about having the mirena removed and getting back on birth control! I've had so many problems with this IUD! I will never get another one! This is crazy! Please let me know what you find out on yours.

I had the Mirena coil removed 5 years ago and I am still suffering with
e coli infections. I have been on nightly antibiotics for the last year as I cannot get rid of the e coli bug that is present in me. The longest I have gone without an infection is 3 days. These infections started 6 months after having the Mirena put in. My advice would be to have the coil taken out and stay as far away as you can from it!!!!!!

I have had my IUD for over 10months now, and every month I have had HORRIBLE UTIs. I have ender up in the ER for each one because the pain goes from 1-10 in an hour and I start to urinate blood.
I have had horrible kidney infections and yeast infections as well.
I am now on a continuouse antibiotic untill I can get to see a urologist in July. I have had a few UTIs in my 29 years, but this is monthly, even overlapping where I had another UTI as soon as the antibiotics were out of my system. I really didnt know what to think, the Doctors told me, there is no way the two are connected. I am glad people are speaking out, and plan on getting my IUD out ASAP! I PRAY this helps, for this has really effected my quality of life, Im 29 and eat very health, and exersize regularly, I should NOT have a chronic problem like this! I will post again after it is out to let yall know if that stoped them!

So I just wanted to give an upate on my urinary health, because I had posted before I had the IUD removed, like so many of you. Well, I got it removed about a year ago and haven't had any UTIs since. I think I may have damaged my bladder from all the infections, and the antibiotics, because it still feels a little weak, but NO INFECTIONS!!! So there's hope after the removal... And for those that are taking seriouse antibiotics, be careful. I got pulmonary fibrosis as a result of the antibiotics I was taking from my last UTI.... And all of this to avoid condoms.. I could strangle someone!

Wow,  I didnt know how many people had issues with their IUD's. I actually had the paragard put in after my second termination back in January of this year and I just started getting odd abdominal pains and frequent urination. I know it' not period, simply because once i get cramps I am either on my first or second day of my period. In this case, I havent even started spotting. I am peeing way too much and my pee is a highlighter yellow type color. I started drinking cranberry juice and taking those pills that turn your pee orange for almost 2 days and nothing yet. I am going to ask my doctor to see if its a UTI, since i have a trip this Saturday to Santo Domingo. I need this infection (if it is) to go away. !

Hi, I'm in the UK and am so glad I found this site.   I have been having back to back UTIs for two years and all I have been given is antibiotics.   I have just seen a specialist who is going to scan my kidneys, gall bladder and bladder, and see what is going on, but with the NHS in this country it could take anything  up to 2 years for these procesures to be carried out.    My UTIs are so bad I am sure they will kill me one day as they makeme so debilitated.   I even find I lose my memory at times.   I am confined to the house with back problems and can hardly walk, but the UTIs have made it so I cannot even go somewhere by car to visit, or a short holiday with a relative, as I when affected I  often  lose control of my bladder in the middle of the night and  it is highly embarrassing.   I also have fevers, headaches and nausea/sickness so bad I have to have anti-sickness injections as I cannot even drink, which means I cannot take antibiotics. I have a coil fitted, and when I hit menopause was told I needn't have it removed as it was one that could stay in.   However, since reading these posts, I've made an appointment to have it removed, and I hope it clears this up.

I have found this site very helpful, and will bookmark it and let you know how I get on.

Question for anyone reading this. Are you testing positive for a UTI or just have the symptoms. I feel like I have one, but don't test as I have one. I'm taking antibiotics anyway but not feeling much better.

I had para guard inserted just under a year and since then I've had two UTIs. I have never experienced a UTI prior to insertion so it seems the para guard must be playing some kind of role.

I am 21, and i got my Mirena when I was 19. I have always had UTI problems throughout my life so I didnt think much of them when I got them after Mirena. But Over the past year they have only gotten worse. I get them about every other day and it usually last all day. Ive been to two urologist, two doctors, ER twice and my OBGYN about 4 times. Finally after much research on my own and switching OBGYN this "UTI" problem I am experiencing is fairly common and will not stop or go away until the IUD is removed. So if you are in the early stages of this problem with Mirena do not hesitate, get it out ASAP. Because it will only get worse. Trust me, through the countless doctors Ive seen Ive been treated for UTI, Kidney stones, bladder stones, kidney infections, bladder infections and bladder spasms. Which now I know why none of the medicines or treatments i took worked. My UTI symptoms are so bad now that I cant do anything I constantly sit in the bathroom with the constant urge to pee and burning sensation and nothing ever happens so I wind up sitting in a hot bath untill 12 Midnight (sometimes later) until I finally go to bed from exhaustiona nd can finally pee the next morning. The pain and frustration hasnt gotten to the point that I rather die than go through another fake UTI. I drink nothing but water and cranberry juice but it doesnt help. Dont wait like I did. I will get worse.

I've read all the posts on here and I too have had uti problems for the last 5 months! Had coil fitted back in 2009. Never thought it was linked until I went to see a psychic yesterday lol! Who told me to get my coil out! I googled it and saw this site! Now I've had the operation for ureatha stricture, I can see with no pain but I'm still seeing loads and still have soreness in my urethra and vagina area. It's caused me to change my life style I don't have sex because I always have discomfort down below. I've not felt normal for the last 6 months. It began with years of vagina bacterios then thrush twice then a uti! No uti coming back in tests but I still have the symptoms. I'm now going to get this marina coil out tomorrow morning!!!! I will pray that ill be better but worried that the last 3-4 months of anti biotics have damaged my bladder. I have also tried to feel inside for the string, noticed my vagina doesn't feel like it uses too. Feels inflamed and tender inside. I can not feel the string. It's been in for 4 half years now so I will get it out and report back on here. If you google sore uretha no uti comes up with this web page and more posts of ladies suffering from this! I'm on there too under Katherine. You can read on my posts a d updates. This post might have saved me I hope it works. Post back when I get it out girls chin up there might be light at the end of the tunnel yet!!!!! Xxxxx

Update, I had my coil taken out yesterday, and the doctor sent it off for testing for me. My update appointment is 28th Nov where I should be told about the results. Maybe it might not help my symptoms but after reading this forum, I had to be sure. Ill try anything.
