It has been happening to me too, but I have a theory.
It only happens to me when I leave a tampon in too long, and a friend and I talked about it and we concluded that the tampon could be sexually stimulating, and that the clear liquid is "cum" of some type (we discussed the "squirting" theory), and that it is building up over the course of the day.

It's only a theory, but I hope you can share it with your doctors and perhaps they could offer some ideas.

It's odd how none of us know.

It's been happening to me as well, and I am a teenager.
It's confusing, but I haven't had it in me to tell anyone about it.
If it's not just happening to me, then it's probably not an extremely serious thing?..

I am having this problem as well.
I am 19 years old.
I got off birth control in September of last year, and since the begining of the year my periods started coming regularly (they never had before). I was also experiencing the clear fluid and frequent changing of tampons. I didn't really think anything of it but this month now it is ONLY the clear fluid, no blood at all or clots. This has me worried so I began looking it up because i thought i might be pregnant or something. So far what i've found is that im probly not pregnant but idk. I havn't been wearing tampons because the real sudden gush of fluid is in the morning when i roll out of bed (like it always is with my period) thats how i know it is a period but i am confused as to why there is no blood at all. I wonder if this has to to with the affects of birth control. I think it is ridiculous that the doctors have no idea and so many woman have it on here. Think of how many have posted there must be hundreds to every one woman here. I'm glad i found this and i hope this isn't serious.
Thanks

I am like the last poster this is the first time that it has happened to me and it started about 2 weeks prior to my cycle, little to no blood just clear liquid. This is so weird I was thinking that it could have been amnionic (spelled incorrectly) fluid, but I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Who knows.

I have also experienced this phenomenon. I am 41, have been diagnosed with PCOS & uterine fibroids. The first time this happened I knew that I had had a fairly large ovarian cyst so I thought maybe it had ruptured. But it has happened a few times since then. The fluid will occasionally have a slight brown tinge with it as well. Sure would love to know what is causing it!! I was wondering if it may be the onset of menopause or something. ?

I am now post-menopausal, but for many years I had the same thing, on and off. Then one month on the day before my period, I had terrible pain at my waist (I had been told from ultrasound that I had cysts on the inside and outside of my uterus and fibroids inside and on the cervix - in particular a large cyst near the top of my uterus). This pain was excruciating (I couldn't sit, couldn't stand, couldn't lie down). Then when trying to go to the bathroom (felt constipated) the pain intensified and I almost blacked out, but noticed a large volume of liquid (not urine) not quite gushing, but a significant flow. The pain abated signficantly - and I concluded that the large cyst had ruptured. My doctor later confirmed the cyst was gone/shrunk and said this was a likely conclusion and these often burst just before or around menstrual periods as they often swell due to hormonal swings. And yes, it had a faint industrial odor.

I had a friend go through the same thing with the pain, and after being at the hospital in the waiting room for 6 hours, it burst and the pain was gone, and they sent her home and told her not to worry.

I suspect many of the smaller cysts just burst on their own without a lot of pain and it's the hormonal swings that trigger the swelling and sometimes burst. Many many women have cysts and they are harmless for the most part.

It's sooo much fun being a girl!

Hey! I have been having the same clear discharge for the last four periods. I am on the birth control patch and had been on it like three or four months before this started. The first couple of days of my period have the clear fluid and very little blood. I'm not use to this at all. I started my period at the age of ten and although I haven't always kept a normal cycle, my periods have always started the same way (brownish then red). Which is why this really threw me for a loop. I too thought it could mean that I was pregnant and took two pregnancy tests. They both came back negative. This is really weird and to make matters worst I have cramps.
Like a couple of other women that have posted I too have digestive problems and suffer from constipation. When I do go, it's diarrhea. (Which I think is due to an illness called celiac disease or wheat intolerance.) I mentioned this because I'm starting to think whatever it is that is causing not only clear discharge during cycles, but, infertility, irregular menstrual cycles, and problems with our reproduction systems, is due to whatever is being put into our foods to preserve them before they actually make to shelves.
It is a terrible shame to think that doctors can't figure this out. %-)

This has happened to me also. I think the poster that talked about cysts rupturing might be on to something. I am 40 and it started happening a few months before I turned 40. I have never had children, so I wonder if it has something to do with eggs/cysts releasing fluid each month.

Thank God I found this site as have been fretting all week. I am a fit 53 year old and haven't had a period for two and a half years after years of terrible periods and agony and i thought YAY!!!! and no need for HRT or any thing. Then last week suddenly started to get horrid wet cold clear patches in pants and finally started to use panty liners and then a mega super plus friggin' tampon which soaked through but with clear fluid and now see pink tinge.Seriously ladies thank God we can we can all talk like this cos it sounds so embarrassing doesn't it?
I haven't mentioned it to anyone not even my husband cos really who wants to know and what a turn off? And as you all say a doctor will just shake his/her head and put it down to hormones........A Womans lot eh Ladies?? Twas ever thus!!!! >;)

it could be the fact that you women are ovulating during menstration. It is not impossible for that to happen. I ask my doctor about thay though but I just thought I would share my thought on this.

I have the exact same theory and I bet we are correct in our thinking!

I was supposed to start my period on the 26th, though. And I've only ever used pads. I've seen a lot of this liquid. Which feels like I've been bleeding, but I'm not.
My theory is excessive amounts of stress makes the period go wacky or some sort.
