Even though some of these responses are over a year old, I don't feel crazy anymore.  Almost a month out from surgery. They scoped me and found a loose piece of cartilage floating around. They removed it, cleaned it out and drilled 3 holes on the arthritic head to create scar tissue to serve as new cartilage? Had a sling for 5 days and medical asst told me to get rid of it and moved my arm in all types of ways which made me yelp.  Ordered PT immediately and 2 follow-ups later being told the clicking, popping and painful "sticking" is not surprising and should get better with range of motion improvement. PT feels like torture at times. During my exercises, at any given point I will hit a "sticking" point where I feel my shoulder will snap with continued movement. I'm 46 and have lifted weights all my life... I have not lifted, have little faith I ever will again and have gained so much weight. Getting old in and of itself will rob you of that "energy" and desire to go to the gym.  A busted shoulder is simply depressing and makes you just wanna sit on the sofa and Netflix marathon like a useless blob.

I had poping & pain thru out the therapy. Therapist told me is was scar tissue that it will go away eventually. 7 months after surgery pain was too much. Had another MRI.. Rotator cuff restore& tendon came off the bone. I believe it was from therapy they pushed me hard as to where I felt nausea & lots of pain. Went to different Dr had surgery again after about a year from first one. I was told by the new Doc ,the poping and pain is from bone on bone. What the therapist told me was Wrong. You might have retore your tendon, have another MRI done.....

46 isn't old and you sound like an excuse maker. Stop having pity for yourself, get up, and do what you need to do. There is plenty you can do without lifting big weight. You can start by controlling what you put in your mouth, this will help your "energy". Fatness is what's hurting that and self pity is what's causing that. I just saw a 60 year old man in my gum with a missing hand who had a cable tied to his nub... you're just being weak.

I had 3 out of 4 rotator cuff tendons completely torn and my bicep tendon. Surgery in Feb 2018. After 6 months of PT I starting having less strength and more pain. Follow up MRI showed 2 of the 4 tendons had come lose. Revision surgery Oct 2018 where they used cadaver Achilles tendon as a graph for my tendons. Now after 5 months of therapy I have plenty of strength picking things up but I cannot lift my arm over my shoulders. The therapist can lift it but I cannot. Also it is making a terrible clicking sound when I try and move it up and down on my own. I am to the point now where I do not know what to do. I will not deal with another surgery so if I have to I guess my shoulder is as good as it will be. The only good thing that has come from this is that I have no pain and can sleep at night.

I'm 68 and suffered two torn to the front and back damage to my rotator cuff with detached spur in my shoulder. Like all of you I too felt the clicking and popping in my arm and shoulder. Dr said this was normal and sent me back to physical therapy, but the clicking and popping increased. The pain was incredible. I insisted this was not normal so reluctantly a new MRI and bone scan was ordered which took another 4 months. My doctor discovered I had bone on bone damage. The humus part of my shoulder was torn up and my right shoulder was rising higher then the left causing yet more pain. MRI showed excess fluid and bone fragments floating in my arm and the lack of room in my shoulder tore my main tendon. Therefore I damaged the recent surgery I had and needed to have another surgery. The doctor shaved the humus head, removed the bone fragments, and fluid but couldn't successfully repair the torn tendon that was due to build up fluid. The doctor has me on light physical therapy but feels a shoulder replacement in my near future. So for those of you who have successfully recovered from the popping and grinding, my hats off to you. After all we each know our bodies and more time needs to be spent explaining the popping and grinding sensations to patients who have our type of surgery . I'm 14 months out and will probably never get the range back in my arm, looking into the near future of a total shoulder replacement. or another 2 operations.

I suffered a full extension tear and dislocated shoulder in April of 2017. The operation took place on June 7th. I went through all of the therapy for months and was on my way to feeling much better. I returned to work on January 22nd of 2018, I'm a Paperhanger, right handed, right shoulder was the damaged shoulder. Periodically in June of 2019, I began to experience slight dislocations of the shoulder. Extreme pain followed for a few minutes. If I stretch the wrong way,it will pop, causing great pain, putting on a sweater at times brings it back. Is my rotator cuff tendon stretching to the point that I will need another surgery? Dan A.
