I have been suffering from clicking since 2005. I don't know what causes it or how to stop it. I usually don't hear it myself, but my boyfriend used to wake me up to blame me for clicking just about every night, sometimes several times a night. When I do hear it, it seems like sometimes the clicking comes from the throat, other times it's my tongue making noise, or I feel a popping feeling in my nose. I am desperate for a solution. It has caused irreparable problems in my 14 year relationship. My boyfriend not only believes that I am awake most of the time when the clicking occurs, but that I'm doing it on purpose. He says hearing the clicking causes him physical pain. This clicking has ruined my life. Because of this I try to sleep as little as possible. I have spent hondreds of euros on medicine, ear, nose and throat doctors and a sleep clinic. I tried a neti pot, nose sprays, vapo-rub, apple cider vinegar and ginger, but none of this helped. I have minor hayfever allergies and type 1 diabetes. If so many people are suffering from this clicking condition, there must be a solution. If you have found an effective way to stop or minimize this clicking please post it on this topic.

I have this problem also! But I only notice it when I take my pain meds. It never happens any other time. So weird. I also clench my teeth in my sleep which causes me to have awful migraines. Which I sometimes have to take pain meds for. lol. Vicious cycle.

I also have this problem with my husband and it drives me mad as it gives me endless sleepless nights. I recently discovered that a friend of mine also has the same problem. She was referred to an ENT Consultant who told her it was acid reflux and prescribed strong antacid tablets. As an experiment I got my husband to try rennie tablets and it definitely helps! Worth a try.

My mother has this clicking voice. i've heard it all my life and still hear it when i stay at hers. The funny thing is that i went to sleep yeasterday and my baby daughter was doing it. can it be hereditary? I changed her sleeping position and the clicking was gone...

My boyfriend has had this for as long as I can remember. He wakes me up numerous times during the night. I wake him and he shifts around but it's not long until the clicking begins again. His clicking gets so loud I get angry and I yell at him then he gets very little sleep during the night because I am constantly waking him to stop clicking. I am currently in the living room and I can still hear him clicking in the bedroom.
I thought about getting him a mouth guard but I never thought it would work. Maybe I'll tell him to give it a try.
I am desperately trying to get this resolved so we can both get a better sleep.

I noticed that there are several different types of problems being described here. Some are describing the back of the throat clicks, some are describing like a tongue clucking sound, and some are even talking about teeth grinding. These are all different things and probably totally unrelated to each other. I'm here because of the clicking noise that comes from the back of my throat when i exhale while i'm trying to sleep. Often it is a series of clicks, but some times it's like a whistling wind sound and sometimes it sounds like an animal dying in the distance. It is partially mucus related because if i clear my throat it goes away for a short time and then returns when more mucus arrives. It also must be throat flap related, presumably because i have throat flap problems due to my GERD. I only noticed this recently. But it is also familiar so i think for me it comes and goes. it would be nice to find out how to get rid of it as it makes it hard to sleep when it is occurring. Two remedies I've read here that sound promising are the saline nasal spray, and the apple cider vinigar shot. Drinking water doesn't seem to help as I drink plenty so i'm never really dehydrated. I find i have to clear my throat a lot, even during the day. My wife only notices sometimes, or at least she only lets me know that she notices sometimes. It could be due to an irritated throat, creating mucus to protect itself. Anyway, I don't know, that's why I ended up here, looking for answers.
