Sounds like you may have obstructive sleep apnea. You probably do wake up many times to a superficial level of sleep to restore airflow. When this happens you might here a loud clicking noise after it occurs, I think it may be some sort of counter effect of the enormous gasp for air. Maybe continuous positive airway pressure treatment could fix it. In any case go see a doctor. Why are you waiting for this long to get help, go see a doctor today.

I have the exact same problem!! Many people have said it's annoying and they wake me up at night so I stop (for at least a little while anyway) it almost sounds like I'm sucking or clicking in my throat! If you see a doctor tell me what they say because i think we have the same thing. You are the only other person I've ever heard of that does this as well!!

I have the same thing, it is driving my partner crazy. It is loud enough to wake her up. I have recorded myself and was surprised how loud it was - sort of like a dripping faucet times 100. My guess is that the soft palate or maybe uvula are stuck together and unstick with a pop when I exhale - but I have no idea if this is possible. It does not sound like I stop breathing, so apneu seems unlikely. I am not heavy and have not gained weight.

I sleep with my mouth open and have tried a mouth gard to push my lower jaw forward. I have also tried apple cider vinigar before bed, sleeping with a different pillow, trying to keep my mouth closed with my hand. None of this has worked.

If anyone finds a solution, please come back to this topic! This is actually the only place I have found people describing a this problem.

Yes increased weight has caused a lot of issues with me from popping noises just as I fall asleep, loud snore just as I fall asleep and now a completely different clicking noise from somewhere in my neck throat. Going on for 4 years now alternating between them. As these all occur just as a fall asleep I now effectively have complex PTSD. Sleep deprivation of this nature of course being torture irrespective of who or what is responsible. Going out of my mind with this and now need to see a shrink.

Rubbish. Getting really tired of people bringing up OSA every time your throat makes a noise. There is a whole industry based on this nonsense.

I have been experiencing this for years. I have no ideas how to stop it. My mother does the same thing. Not sure if it is hereditary. If anyone has any ideas on how to stop this, as my husband is going crazy sometimes as well, I would love to know.

Yes, my wife is doing exactly as you say. She gets mad when I wake her to stop it. It's a real problem, breathing in through her nose and exhaling through her mouth.

I posted here before and have come back because I found sonething that works for me. I started using a nasal dilator (nozovent) and this has reduced the noises to the point my partner now sleeps without ear plugs.

I think was breathing trough my mouth because my nose is too small which caused dryness and the palate sticking together and then the loud click when exhaling.

Hope it works for others too!

My husband has developed a clicking in his throat when he sleeps. The first time I noticed it I was actually woken by the same clicking in my own ear. It's like a mucus membrane is being created and popped rhythmically. Since then a couple of weeks ago I have not had the ear clicking happen but he continues to have the throat clicking. I think it has to do with atmospheric pressure.

I “click” as well! Mine does not come from my throat, it comes from my mouth. I never believed I was doing it until 3 people pointed it out and now I can actually recall doing it and how it feels. I can mimic it when I’m awake but still don’t know what’s causing it when I’m asleep. Mine occurs when I’m in a deep deep sleep too.

I feel your pain, it’s super frustrating for our partners, my wife won’t sleep with me anymore and I understand but it still hurts my feelings, I have tried simple gargling and lozenges before bed, nasal strips, mouth guards, but nothing has helped, I don’t want to go to a cpap but that seems like the next step.
