I've recently had the same problem with a cold sore that left what seems to be a scar. What was the strangest part was that this one appeared in a different place then in the past. The first one I ever had was in the corner of my mouth. This one was on the top of my lip at the peak of my lip. It was bigger then any in the past and took longer to go away. I was very upset that the cold score had moved to a different location. It was almost as if it was the very first one and that's why it was so sever. I'm not sure if the scar will fad or not, I'm sure in time it will. As for your question about the scar... You can try vitamin E oil from a health store. I used it in my lotion for stretch marks, and it worked great. I would look for one in a little glass bottle, not plastic. And it should be thick like honey. The cheep stuff didn't work as well. Good luck! I know how it feels to have this ugly thing on your lip, so I really do hope this helps you.

I recently got a cold sore and put abreva on as soon as possible. However it still swelled up and I got little clusters, but the abreva helped it from getting worse, DO NOT pop it! On day 2 I mixed peroxide, baking soda, lemon juice and a good amount of salt, I used a q tip to rub around the area for about 20 minutes 4 times a day. By that night the swelling was still there but had gone down a lot, it was helping dry it up, on day 3 it dried up and right now it's just scabbing but I'm using neosporin to help heal it faster and it doesn't hurt as bad with it. Hope this helps, it really worked for me & normally I could only use abreva to help.

same problem here has been there for a year. not a real bad one but noticable if you look. apart from rubbing the skin off of your entire lip i think there will always be a discoloration there.

Hi mylife,
I don't know if a peel will work. I'm actually considering it myself since this is a scar from my first outbreak. My process has helped with the discoloration and the dent is less dented forsure but I don't know if it'll ever be the same :( It'sstill noticeable when light hits it which sucks because summer is coming. I'm still using bio oil and also soaking it in zinc water (zinc pills dissolved in warm water) which might be helping Since zinc is for skin growth. It's probably going to be a slow process. If anyone has tried the peel or of you do, please share!

Guyz, go for Aloe vera. Just get a thin slice of the aloe leaf and stick it to the lips.
It worked wonders for cold sore scars on my lips. Keep doing it and be patient.

I think giving it a cold compress or using tea bags on the affected area could help you in treating the problem...

OOOHKAY GUYS!!! Here I am with some never shared advice on cold sores. I got my first sore in 7th grade. yeah, even my teachers made jokes about it. yeah, to this day it shakes my confidence to the point where i stay in for two weeks straight. and yeah, my process of healing includes VERY PAINFUL things to help reduce the apperence. Thats right people, do not attempt my methods without a high pain tolerance. Also please note that none of these methods im about to discuss have been recommended by health physicians...i should patent them cause they are strictly out of my own head.
I like to think of coldsores as a three part process. Theres the blister-forming phase, the IM RED, IM RAW, AND IM NOT GOING ANYWHERE phase, and the diminishing of the scab phase.
ON THE ONSET (first stage)! IMMEDIATELY pop an acyclovir or two. continue munching those pills every 4 hours for the first 4-5 days, maybe even a week. im no doctor i dont know, just make him (or her!) give you the highest dosage they dish out. Make sure you take them as soooon, and as often, as possible cause thats whats gonna mostly stop the growth before it happens, I keep a pill on me always because, on onset, every minute you wait to pop that pill makes a huge difference in healing time. You're also gonna wanna rub some denavir on that sucker. every two hours, I cheat and go more, but then again Im crazy with my routine. now, remember that cream c**p can be super expensive- like 100 dollars a tube. but, if youre like me, and money means nothing when you have an outbreak, id go for it, it helps a lot.
So now youre juggling two treatments, both are prescription. Lets throw some homeopathic remedies in there, and this is where the pain comes into play.
Another thing that helps stop the spread is draining the blister before it can grow, I like to call this part 'the exorcism'. The most important thing to remember is NOT TO POP IT no matter what you do. Your gonna want to just nip the damn thing and push all that damn toxic puss right out, you MUST refrain from this compulsion. What works so much better in the long run is Alcohol. No, I dont mean go get wasted to forget that your life and looks are sh*t at the moment. I mean go get some rubbing alcohol on a Qtip and hold that over the blister for like ever, or until you see that pos has gone down. The puss seeps through the skin this way without popping the blister. **There is a treasured day here where the blister looks much better than it will for at least a week . Personally, I take advantage of this to do some shopping or something for my hibernation period.**
Pretty soon we have moved onto stage two. The stage of hellish embarrassment and extreme isolation. My dad once told me when he was younger and would have an outbreak he would swim in the ocean every day. The salt water helped clear up his sores faster. So, lets recreate this. Get a mug. Get some hot water in there and dissolve some salt. Use a washcloth to dab the mixture on the sore for like 5-10 minutes once or twice a day. After the salt bath the wound will be weak. Take advantage, and attack with Denavir!
There will be times when its looking too open and angry. You're gonna want to make a man-made scab. Lets call this process 'Two Qtips, One herp'. Here comes the worst part, but in my eyes, its essential to quick healing. You'll need rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide for this part. First get a little dish of the H peroxide, and use a Qtip to hold it on the sore until it feels like your skin is boiling. Repeat the application until there is a white dry layer of burnt new skin over your open sore. To turn it to regular colored skin quickly take the next qtip and dip it into rubbing alcohol. Scream upon application, it helps. Or hold an ice cube in your mouth. If all else fails, just think about how much you hate the fu*king sore and the pain will help you cope with the anger. Repeat the alcohol qtip until the white is gone and you have a wet new layer of skin. Reapply denavir or Neosporin or whatever your using to accelerate healing, and dab the sore every few minutes, cause it will start to be p***y again.
Eventually the scab will dry out and become a layer of tender new skin. At this point, I like to slap some acne medicine of there. I mean like every kind of acne medicine I have. Some of them sting a bit (esp. the toner), but its not like you cant take the pain after the 2Qtips phase. Do this often, it helps reduce the scab and extricate more of the puss.
*Hot Showers. Long ones.
*Tanning beds. Low level, long exposure time. I use sunblock on my body cause im white as paper and cant take the heat.
*Chap stick on the rest of your smackers (or aloe, if you dont want to toss your chapstick after this ordeal is done). Dont let the rest of your lips suffer along with the infected part.
*Avoid orange juice, tomatoes, and all citrus like the plague.
*Take all sorts of vitamins. A, B, and E are most helpful. There is some desecration over C since there is citrus in most, but I take it sometimes as well.
*Your hands should be dry from over washing. Wash them excessively.
And for the last phase, healing the scab. Just repeat all the processes in stage two, but add some bandaid time in there. Apply your favorite topical and place a bandaid over it. Leave it for an hour or so and then remove it, and let the wet skin dry!. Leaving it for too long may cause your scab to crack. Also some peoples skin gets irritated from the latex or the sticky or something. Skip this step if thats you. The Neosporin is in this phase to reduce scarring, so apply a few times a day, but not too constantly, or else the scab might slide right off you and youll have to go back to 2Qtip phase.
Also, use Mederma or a different sort or scar reducer to help keep your skin clear once the sore is gone. I apply this about twice a day from like the middle of phase two until the whole ordeal is done with. This is the last step, and actually should continue past the disappearance of the sore. That way you can be sure to avoid the red after affect turning to scarring. Aloe works here too, I switch off between the two throughout the process.
I hope this has helped at least one person out there. The only reason I took the time to share is because I never had help learning how to cope. I didnt even know there was medication out there until college. Ive dedicated 11 years to this tried and true method, but thats not to say it cant get any better. If you have other methods that work for you, I encourage you to SHARE THEM!! so that OCD people like me can add them to our routines of healing!!!
Last advice I have for you. Pay attention to when and why you get coldsores. For example, I usually rock them around september, janurary, april, and july. This knowledge is power, my friends. Out of these 4 times a year usually only one or two of them blow into the full two and a half week process. I can usually catch the other ones way early because ive learned to read my bodies signs. If Im stressin bad mid september, I am ready and waiting to fight off the herpies. My birthday is in august, so mid-to-late july Ill start taking small doses of acyclovir to ward off any unwanted blisters. If I get smacked hard enough in the face for some reason, on the spot where I usually get a sore, this too can provoke those little bastards. So watch yourself.
Good luck to you all! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!! YOULL GET THROUGH THIS!!!
