Hi everyone I got a first cold sore this year on my upper lip. I was sick for 5 weeks with 3 different things all in a row. My immune system was really weak, most likely because of the destruction the antibiotics caused in my body. Because of all these sicknesses my body was fighting off, the cold sore appeared. One in the middle of my upper lip, then another one a couple days afyer on the top of my upper lip. I'm known as a really goodlooking guy to my family, friends and coworkers. It was really hard for me. The first most embarrassing blister on the middle of my lip, i popped it the same day it appeared. It left a noticeable gash. It stayed there for 2 weeks and seemed like a ticking time bomb, where it could blow up into another blister at anytime. But after 2 weeks my lips went back to normal. However, i got back to the gym, and have a bad habit of clenching my lips with my teeth when i lift heavy. I forgot about the blister and after scraping my lip with my teeth, the gash/scar showed up again. The scar was a darker colour and noticeable for about another week. I then looked at the messages in this forum and felt really discouraged because my scar wasnt going away or showing any signs of improvement. I was very sad, because one of my best features is my lips. I began to start not caring about it anymore, and didn't care about it for a couple weeks. I still made sure i had good quality lip chap on, i even was putting on some "witch hazel" liquid, and letting it stay there until it dried. As soon as i completely accepted and was content with he scar, it went away. And it went away a couple weeks after my immune system had nothing to fight off anymore. So my advice is, when you get a cold sore, let it live. Make it your friend. Because it has a very short life span and will die. So let it enjoy it's life and live it. Because popping it will let it leave a legacy for a few weeks. For the people who have had a scar for months, years, my advice is to go get tested for sickenesses. Not for herpes, but for everything else. Because if your body cannot heal a blister scar, it is using it's energy to heal something else. If you won't get tested, obtain a perfect healthy diet plan and lifestyle. It will strengthen your immune system.

There is a bleaching cream you can get from a dermatologist that is helpful to lighten the scar if you have light colored skin.  You might be able to ask the doctor about that.  It takes a couple of weeks before you notice the ligthening but it does work.

I have the same problem! Except I was told that you're supposed to pick the scab off and then hold a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide on the open wound for 5 minutes. It helps to kill the cold sore about a day faster but it leaves scars. I now have two scars because of it. I had the cold sores at the same time, tried this and now am suffering from two embarrassing scars...if there is any quick fix out there for this, I would love to know!!

I had my very first outbreak in the middle of January. I was fortunate enough to only get one cold sore but it was a fighter and stayed on my upper lip for almost three weeks. When the scab finally came off, I was mortified to see that it left discoloration on my lip -- a dark brown scar (from the site of the cold sore) and some light pinkish spots. I immediately applied aloe vera gel, and within the week my lip's color was slowly returning to normal. I suggest using pure aloe vera gel straight from the plant and apply it to the scar every four hours. Make sure to massage it gently to stimulate the blood, though. A good 20 seconds or so would do.

The light pinkish spots are completely gone. The dark scar is turning to its original color, but I haven't been as diligent as I was the first time I treated my scars so the healing time is slower now. :P Also, make sure to wear lipbalm with SPF protection when you go out to prevent undoing all the hard work.

Good luck to everyone~

Hi! I did the exact same thing with the hydrogen peroxide and am desperate to find something to make it fade. Did you ever find anything that worked or did your scars ever fade?

I had a cold sore on both corners of my mouth, and after about a week I started using Blistex. I applied it every hour and it started working immediately and within a couple of days the actual cold sore/ scab was gone (I definitely recommend using it) However, it's been at least a month now and I've still got red marks on the corners of my mouth and it goes really dry if I don't apply lip balm/ vaseline regularly. Does anyone have any solutions/ know how long it takes to disappear naturally?

I started getting cold sores a year ago. Mine keeps coming back on the same spot! And very often. So now I have the same brown scar above my lip. It won't go away. The best thing for cold sores is Abreva. Lysine vitamins. And I also use medicated clear patches for bubbles. I never picked my cold sore. But the scar still showed up. It's been a year, no luck..

Coconut oil don't allow cold sorrs to ever come back if you rub it on once a day, it really works, you can wipe the excess off, and it will not break you out with pimple either my daughter uses it even with acne and it actually helps. However I cannot find anything that gets rid of the scar, mine is on my chinand I dark and ugly aand really causes me Iinsinsecurity I have tried everything, retinol, scar gel of all sorts, lighting cream, even an at home peel, nothing works, I went to a dermatoligist and basically got turned away for lazer treatment because they are afaid it will make it worse however with coconut oil it will not come back! !!!!! So if you get a deep peel or use retinol, just apply the coconut oil after ward, but if anyone figues out how to get rid of the scar please let me know, cause this is seriously effecting my life dramatically, IT LOOKS I HAVE A DISEASE THAT HASN'T BEEN THERE FOR WELL OVER A YEAR
