Yes, Almond milk is a contains no cholesterol or lactose and can be used as a substitute. It is also often enriched with vitamins.

If preparing combination with almond milk at home, you should be careful, not to use bitter almonds, since the combination of bitter almonds and water releases cyanide.

And if you are the weight conscious, unsweetened almond milk is lower in calories than cow's milk or soy milk.

The adverse health affects of cow's milk are just horrifying, given that it is so glorified in America.

1. The three countries that consume the most cows milk: US, UK, Switzerland.

The three countries that have the highest rates of osteoporosis: US, UK, Switzerland.

The milk itself is acidic: meaning to digest it, calcium must be used to buffer the acid. If you do not have enough calcium available, it is leached from your bones. The calcium in milk is not very bioavailable and only has a 20-30% absorption. Drinking cow's milk will result in more calcium being lost than gained. Many people are not aware of this and rely on milk for their calcium, instead of eating properly and taking supplements.

2. Bovine growth hormones and antibiotics have disastrous effects on health, including endocrine and thyroid disruption. Antibiotics cause bacterial resistance, hence the new super bugs like H1N1.

3. No other living being on earth drinks another specie's milk! The more you think about that, the grosser it seems.
