My 22 year old daughter is scheduled for a colonoscopy (her second - had one 3 years ago) to try and determine the cause of persistent pain and tenderness on her lower left side. She also has had some mild rectal bleeding that her doctor said was too high up just to be from hemorrhoids discovered during her last colonoscopy. She has had both abdominal and transvaginal ultrasounds, abdominal CT scan, endoscopy - you name it - this year for other symptoms and was diagosed with GERD and a hiatal hernia. The ultrasound showed small "functional" ovarian cysts, but nothing major. Her doctor has mentioned the possibility of both diverticulitis (I have had surgery for that) and colitis. I, of course, being a mother, am scared of the possibility of colon cancer, though I know it is rare at her age. I am also hoping that, where she did have a previous colonoscopy three years ago, the time would likely be too short for cancer to have developed.
Any insight will be gratefully received. Thanks.
