Is alcohol really that bad for patients with diabets? Myself have been drinking regularly (I mean a few beers a week when going out, after a meal) and have not had problems so far. Yes, I do take into account the carbohydrates if I drink beer, since I know it contains carbs. Have other people had other, negative experiences? Are diabetic patients more prone to long-term consequences of drinking, such as liver cirrhosis? Am I missing something here?

Hello, thanks for your post. I hope my post is helpful. Alcohol is known to cause hypoglycemia in diabetes. It doesn't make any difference how much. You are lucky you are not having problems at this time but you may in the future. It would be interesting to see if others reading this have any experiences with drinking alcohol as a diabetic. It is a chancy habit to indulge in since hypoglycemia can make you disoriented or put you into a coma. Be safe and try not to drink alcohol when you are a diabetic. There is too much risk. Is there anyone who has had a bad hypoglycemic episode from drinking alcohol?
