Hello, I am a 22 year old male. I acquired this problem five days ago.
It started out as pain when ever I would eat or drink liquids. There was pain in my esophagus only when the food or liquid would pass, then sharp pain and pressure in my stomach would would go away after 30 seconds.
as time progressed I would get hot and cold flashes, fatigue, headaches, and a bitter taste in the back of my throat. the pain in my stomach would continue even without eating. I found lying on my back or the fetal position relives the pain.
After four days I went to the doctor and he prescribed APO-Cimetidine.
He thinks I have acid reflux.
(I don't drink alcohol, I have one coffee a day, and drink tea once and a while. I have a low fatty diet).
Pepto bismol does nothing at all.
The drug apparently takes a while to show signs of improvement, which is making it hard for me to eat or drink anything without a sharp pain right below my xiphisternum.
I'm going back to the doctors to see what he might prescribe to help me eat and drink without pain.

hi, the symptoms you describe are certainly characteristic of acid reflux and the meds he has provided do take time to show effect, in the meantime try to eat simple food and liquids - no spicy, fatty meals or alcohol, as these will only exacerbate the problem.

for the past few weeks and usually only when im eating i get a pain,i would say,at the base of the esophagus.its usually with every mouthfull and lasts a second untill the food has passed.i dont get the bitter taste which leads me to beleive its not acid reflux??i dont feel tired or unwell but have 2 days in the last few weeks when this pain has not occured.it hasnt stopped me eating at all cause i would say the pain aint that severe its just worring and annoying? any ideas?? %-)

My non-verbal son of 33yrs has these same symptoms. He also his not eating or drinking. So far the doctor has only found a tumor on his liver which does not cause pain they say. He is in severe pain almost at all times now, since his problem started over 8 months ago. I wish he could let me know where all his pain is, he also has damage to his motor skills so he cannot write either. Cleveland Clinic in Ohio are the ones searching for his problem.
