As I sit here reading this forum, I am swallowing so hard to try to get rid of this honey-like mucous in my throat, it drives me nuts!! Every day! It does help to know that I'm not alone. In addition to the thick saliva I'm trying to swallow all the time, I have Burning Mouth Syndrome as well! Talk about adding insult to injury! My mouth feels like its on fire, and I'm constantly swallowing!
Ive tried everything! My Dr. has run every blood test known to man. I'm in excellent health for a 66 year old man, but this stuff dis only getting worse by the day! God bless everyone out there who has to live with this. I wish I had something helpful to offer, but I'm struggling like many of you, with no good solutions.

Thanks for the tip. No, haven't tried that. But,I have tried almost everything under the sun! It feels as though this "stuff" is being secreted in my mouth, like my own saliva is thick. Nothing works! Not one Dr. has even able to even suggest a possible cause, but I'll keep trying every suggestion, cause at this point I've got nothing to lose, except my sanity!
thanks again!

The mucous build up is caused by eating foods that are big mucous causers. Try a mucous free diet, there's actually a booked titled The Mucous free diet. Whenever I pig out and eat foods that are mucous causers I pay for it by having to constantly spit the mucous out. Raw Apple cider vinegar and eating more raw veggies than meat usually clears my Mucous up. Also a few days of fasting really clears it out. I hope this helps someone.

One sure way of regulating the allergens that's causing this problem is take up High Intensity Interval Trainings at anaerobic level. I've been suffering from chronic allergy for many years that produces mucus..., after taking up this exercise problem reduce by 50%. I've been incorporating HIITS into my workout for about 4 months now, 1-1.5 hour per day , 5 active days a week . Before taking up this exercise, you should get proper advice from qualified trainer and this is a really challenging exercise which needs proper guidance. Google the benefits of HIITs and u will understand how it helps to make the body stronger.
At the same time I also subscribing to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) where the objective here is the regulate the internal organs system ....they call it balancing the Yin and Yang ...worthwhile checking it out. My overall body internally and externally exhibits clear improvement by adopting HIITs and TCM. Works for me ...not sure for the rest of you out there.

My mother who is 74 has recently been suffering with this problem. She has seen several doctors and one of them indicated the post-nasal drip issue but her nose is always clear. The doctor felt that it is clear because the mucus is going to her throat. She is extremely frustrated with this and I would like to help her. From these posts, I don't see any clear answers. it looks like a hit and miss. Please continue to post if you see results with something.

I have this too. I read an article about GERD, acid reflux. Seems that the body tries to protect the esophagus from stomach acid splash by creating a thick, sticky mucus to coat it.

It started after I had surgery for my deviated septum and Tonsillectomy, just like you.
Almost 10 years now and did not find anything that could help me.

I've suffered this for so many years now. I don't understand why Dr's can't tell us what this is or what causes it. We all have the same symptoms. It drives me insane, especially at night. I can't get the mucus up or down and I feel like I'm choking. One Dr told me it's allergic rhinitis, I've also been told post nasal drip. I wish there was something we could take that would liquidify this mucus - a bit like a detergent that breaks down fat. I've tried almost everything. Now, I suck on soothers and try not to focus on it at night time or I will start to feel claustophobic and get quite distressed about it. I know dairy aggravates this, but I avoid dairy especially in the evenings yet I still suffer.

Hi; I also have this problem. I believe that it is LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux). It is not the same as GERD and requires different medication to treat it. It usually requires agressive treatment with acid suppressors and can take a long time to heal the damage that has been done. Hope this helps.
