I know this post is over a year old. But I was wondering if you ever found out what it was? I’m having the same issues

Ugh I’m having this too over a year. Feels like a popping or grinding with swallow above the thyroid, near hyoid on right side. Thought it was a lymph node rubbing on hyoid cartilage. My neck is sore all the time, different lymph nodes act up. I’ve been tested for everything ct scans, ultrasound, several doctors
Nothing. No answers
I get headaches too. MRI negative
I’m so sick of having a sore throat this miserable feeling only goes away with excedrin but I still feel the grinding

Does anyone have any updates? I’ve had this for two months now and I’m absolutely miserable. I saw an ENT and they said everything looked fine and it could potentially be the calcification of the hyoid ligament.

Do you have the full name of this doctor? There are alot of Dr. Smiths in Salt Lake city and I have the same clicking problem in my throat and I've been to numerous ent's, barium swallow, endoscopy. You name it and I've done it with no positive results. I would be willing to fly across the country if he has a resolution for this. Thank you ahead of time for any useful information on this doctor

I've been dealing with some similar c**p for about 3 months now. When it first started it really freaked me out because I had been using dipping tobacco for a few weeks. Needless to say I stopped that immediately. My symptoms included tightness/pain in back of throat/neck/ears, clogged ears, clicking noise when swallowing and globus sensation. I've been to an ENT and he found nothing and wasn't of much help. However I have started to become relieved of these symptoms from my own experimentations. One thing that I remembered was that when my symptoms began I had just re-introduced refined carbs back into my diet, namely gluten. I feel it's very possible that this sensation is my body's response to a food allergy as since I have cut out gluten again about a week ago my symptoms have almost completely vanished. I also believe anxiety has made the symptoms worse, and I've gotten better about relaxing regarding them. Lastly I played with my Adam's Apple earlier and shifted it from side to side up and down and I felt a pop when doing so. The pop made it feel like it was put back in to place as I experienced a minor amount of dull pain and then relief. Just my findings, good luck people.

Yep, a +1 here. About 9 months ago, during a time of high stress, I suddenly noticed the grinding sensation any time I had my chin slightly lowered (or more). It has continued, fairly consistently, for the past nine months. I find it very hard to lie on my back and read a nighttime story to my kids, because the grind is particularly bad then. Not painful, really, but very uncomfortable. Like others here, it often goes away if I physically push my larynx to the right, and after a little popping sensation, it goes away... until I take my hand away, my larynx moves back, and here we go again. I've been to an ENT, did a nasal endoscopy, found nothing, had a thyroid ultrasound, found tiny (probably) non-cancerous nodules, but nothing major. Now I'm going to a second ENT to get a second opinion. The first ENT said that surgery to shave down the cartilage is really the only known cure, but if I could stand it, just put up with it instead of cutting open my neck. So... we'll see. I'll update as I learn more.

I have diagnose with Eagle syndrom due to elongated Styloid process, I have a clicking sensation occassionally during swallowing at the Hyoid level. I would like to know how exactly do depresss your tongue when it is sticking out. My Ent told me the risk of surgery and I should bear with it as it is not malignant ( from CT neck and chest , Endoscopy ( 2 twice) , flexible nasascopy ( mulitple times by different ENTs). Thanks in advance

What some of you are saying sounds like what I have been dealing with for the last year or so. A weird grinding and clicking when I try to swallow and the right side front neck muscle gets tighter and tighter. I have been to physical therapy and gotten multiple tests done but they all seem to think it’s stress related for me. I do clench my shoulders a lot and the more I focus on trying to swallow normally when it’s clicking the worse it gets. I don’t feel consciously stressed but taking Zoloft has been the only thing that has helped me be able to stop tensing up and swallow normally again so far.

I'm having the same issue and found this thread! I feel my larynx clicking above my Adam's Apple specially at morning, and it started 2 weeks ago. I can touch and also feel my throat clicking by putting my finger over it, like the cartilage is rubbing my throat. It doesn't happen all the time. The strange click occurs especially when I'm stressed, swallowing spit or drinking water at morning.
I saw an ENT last week, who looked a bit confused when I described my symptoms. I tried to simulate, but he didn't find anything wrong. He saw my throat and said it was a bit swollen, probably due to acid reflux. Indeed, I was having some stomach issues. He said the acid reflux doesn't explain the clicks.
The ENT prescribed a videolaryngostroboscopy to check if things are ok, but said it was not urgent because I had no other symptoms.
Now I'm hyper focused in my throat and having some other issues, like globus sensation and voice a bit muffed. If symptoms don't go away, I'll check my larynx.
I confess I'm a little obsessed with my health. Before the larynx clicking, I noticed a lump behind my neck who disturbed me for weeks. It was a muscular nodule - nothing relevant and disappeared. Now I have this strange issue. Maybe am I hiperaware of my body?

Hi I’ve recently had covid and noticed a week or so I got my negative tests I started feeling a lump in my throat and clicking/popping wen I swallow.
Anyone else had this.. could it be the effects of having covid. I also have a thyroid nodule on left side had this checked last year and it’s not cancerous nor as it grown.
