For those of you suffering from pain and nausea every time you eat and as a result have been eating less and less. Speak to your doctor about SMA disease (or Superior Mesinteric Artery stenosis). He will most likely order an ultrasound (duplex) where you will go in after not eating after midnight, then after the initial scan will be asked to eat, then the test will be repeated to evaluate for a narrowing or stenosis of the artery supplying the intestines (SMA). If you have this, it can be corrected by something as simple as an angioplasty with stent placement (a small balloon deployed followed by a small metal mesh that holds the artery open to allow proper flow) or even and open surgical repair. That would be for you to discuss with your vascular surgeon.

This is an article about the ultrasound exams and outcomes...

Good luck!
