That is so unfair to blanket everyone under addiction. Yes, my body is dependent on pain killers and I would give anything to have my life back and I have tried everything from massage, acupuncture, PT, Exercise, surgeries, spinal cord stimulator and even with pain medication I have to make decisions each day on what I am going to give up or how much I can do that day so that I can still have energy left for my family and the ability to be able to move and get around. I still work 2 part time jobs and every day I fail. I can never give 100 percent to my family, my job or myself. It has been a battle for me for 16 years. My youngest son has never known the real me and my older kids I am sure have forgotten because most of their lives I have been dealing with pain. I have never done any illegal drugs and have been seeing a pain management Doctor since I got 2 twelve inch rods put in my back and was fused from S1 - T10. I hope they you never have to walk a day in my shoes. I would not wish it on my worst enemy.

I'm taking 48 mg of dilaudid per day for about 10 years and recently tried going cold turkey. I ended up in the hospital. I broke my back and compound fractured my leg in 1981. I spent 9 months in a body cast. I worked for several more years and ended up on SSDI. Now I have chronic Lymphedema in both legs and feet. I had my heart and veins checked with no problems found. One doctor said he saw this one other time where the patient was also taking pain pills, as a side effect. I tried to just quit and see if it would help the legs but all doctors have said this is not from Dilaudid. I had withdrawals for 2.5 days and ended up in the hospital. They suggested try reducing the amount I take then quit. I may try that. I am in Obamacare and I need to pay 100% of the bill because I am in the donut hole. I may wait til Jan. and try again. Each time I have detoxed it gets harder. I really hope the next health year is an improvement. Where do they think I could afford thousands of dollars for deductibles plus premium when I am on a fixed disability check with no raise in 3 years. We need real healthcare before we go bankrupt.

Morphine is natural and the body knows how to recognize it. Try Tylenol with codeine first and breathing exercises. Seriously.

The hospitals are creating a drug culture. ..I had horrible experience of feeling dilaudid as poison entering right side of my head after hip surgery from car accident. I probably have some soft tissue damage on right side of head at base of my neck from previous injury that could have led to me feeling dark feeling when I got dilaudid.
I became unaware and more reliant on the perkiset they then gave me when I actually could not feel my foot so therfore should not have experienced pain.

I think dilaudid acts as a gateway drug honestly and is scary they use it in er after morphine when I did not complain of pain.

I agree, some ignorant people have no clue what it's like to live in constant pain, I've had 14 surgeries since I was 14 I'm 40 now and in the worst shape ever, IGNORANT PEOPLE should be educated before they run their mouths....

The Dilaudid will seem like a miracle. It is much stronger and you will no longer have to worry about the amount of Tylenol your body is getting. Definitely, give the Dilaudid a try.

To the person stating that we are addicts; we are not looking for a high on life. We are looking to live our lives. My condition is not your business, but an extremely painful neuromuscular disorder. The pain medication helps me to get through physical therapy and allows my mom (I'm 36) to be able to lift me and dress me without hurting me. That other guy was right, you do have your head up your ass. I hope you never get a life changing painful illness.

ON YOUR SWITCHING TO DILAUDID FROM OXYCODONE, I HAVE SPINAL STENOSIS, I TAKE 4 MG OF DILAUDID 3X DAILY, IT IS A SHORT TERM PAIN RELIEVER, WHEN NEEDED WHICH IS ALL THE TIME, THE DR STARTED ME ON 15 MG MORPHINE TODAY AS WELL AS STAYING ON THE DILAUDID, BUT TO TRY AND CUT BACK AS MORPHINE IS A 12 HOUR PAIN MED, AND DILAUDID IS SHORT TERM 4 HRS. SO I START ONE A DAY OF 15 MG MORPHINE TOMORROW AND WILL CONTINUE THE DILAUDID, I WANTED TO CUT BACK ON DILAUDID ANYWAY SO THIS MAY HELP. I ALSO TAKE ALPRAZOLAM FOR ANXIETY WHICH I AM GOING TO TRY AND CUT BACK FROM 3X DAILY TO 1 THEN OFF, I HAVE BEEN ON THE ALPRAZOLAM FOR YEARS AND DILAUDID FOR ABOUT 1 YR. WISH ME LUCK JIMMY D.
