It's called micropsia. Or alice in Wonderland syndrome. It's very rare in adults but common in children. Do speak to your doctor. Micropsia can be caused by seizures, brain damage, etc.

While you should go see a doctor if you have any concerns, it doesn't have to be a problem. I am fully healthy and not only get this feeling, but have learned to, more or less, 'turn it on' at will.

Wow finally found some one else with this thing. I also find it happens when I look at some one when talking to them.

Just thought I would research this as it is happening right now just before I tried to get sleep, it normally doesn't last longer than the one night but sometimes it does pop up in the day but doesn't last too long.

First everything seems like it is getting further away and then I start hearing things louder than they should be or even quieter.

I know this may sound crazy but at least it doesn't just happen to me as I thought it did since no one in my family as I know of have this problem. Also it started years ago when I was a small child and I am now 17 it doesn't happen often but I would say at least two times a year maybe.

I had the same thing happen to me today during a job interview. It used to happen to me a lot in high school. I think my vision changes when I get nervous. I thought maybe it was part of having a small panic attack but I have no idea.

I used to get the same thing. I am 20 now, I probably haven't had it happen for a few years but would get it every month or so in my early to mid teens. I just remebeted it happening then type my symptoms into google and i found this. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one!
But for me it only lasted for 30 mins and happened about once per month. The things I noticed about my vision were everything was small and far away, but very clear and crisp too. Almost like the HD switch got flipped on. Symptoms I had other than vision changes were slighty elevated heart rate, (I could even hear my heart pumping really clearly, it was weird), and a weird, but almost euphoric feeling of dizziness. The one funny part about it though wasB when I would look at my fingers and they would look like little miniature sausages, because they looked so tiny. It's interesting to hear how many of you also mention youre hands or fingers looking strange and foreign.

I am happy i found this on search and would like to know more about this strange phenomenon, since it apparently happens to many orhers as well.

I'm 23 and I've been having the same problems as a lot of you. I have had it happen to me a handful of times. When I was younger I would have these attacks called syncope and would faint or past out randomly. I don't know if that ties into anything but when my vision starts zooming outward, my whole body starts looking super thin or flat like 2d, my mouth gets small feeling, my head will buzz and reverb down my spine, yet I'm very mobile, I remember once I freaked out and tried calling for help on my phone, and I had no problem getting my phone but scrolling and reading was no go, even as I was on the phone I felt like I was about to drop, and then after a couple minutes I was fine, I'm not on or doing anything in particular to bring this on myself but how can I control or block this? It feels like being extremely drunk only without all the fun.

I'm actually having one right now and so I thought it was about time I researched it.
I find it comes and goes within about 5-10 minutes, making everything feel really far away, not particularly small just not normal making it hard to concentrate, no reason for it to happen, no reason for it to go, it just concerns me and just caused general inconvenience.
Did anyone come out with a reason for it or is it just a mystery?

I have just had my first on last night in years. When I was younger I used to get them a lot within a month or two every year, when I was trying to get to sleep everything seemed far away, even when I closed my eyes it still looked and felt the same. One time when it was happening, i also had the feeling when sitting up in my bed that I was suddenly growing really tall.
Sometimes it stopped it when I sat in my bathroom with all the lights on and just sit for a few minutes.
I am going to see the doctor soon to see if is related to seizures or epilepsy as I have read that a few times. Hope this helps
