I definatley thought I was the only person this happened too. The first time i experianced it was when i was very little, around 7 or 8. I never told my parents because I didnt know how to explain it and I use to get very very scared because of the feeling it gave me. I never use to be able to close my eyes for a long time because i would see images in my head of things far away from me, and then sometimes when id open my eyes at night, my actual vision was that. Sometimes it lasted upto an hour, sometimes only 5-10 minutes. i am now 18, and i havent had this is in a very long time, since I was about 12 maybe 13. I'm still scared of it happening, every now and then i get a feeling like it will happen but i am able to over come it slightly. i still have no idea what it is, Doctors said maybe it was to do with hormones and growing up, but I still dont know.

This can be common in "partial (focal) seizures." Recommend you see a neurologist.

I remember having those same symptoms, between the age of about 6 til my early to mid teens, but I think I was more fascinated that I could reach things that looked miles away (but were actually only arms length) and the feeling of being super tall cos the floor looked miles away wen I stood up. I found walkin around made it go away, or focussing on something eg reading. I'm 23 now, never found out wot it was, if some1 finds out, please post on here, I'm curious to know!! Steve from cornwall

I think this happens to me a lot when I look at a text throught the computer screen. I get rid of it by looking around and blinking. But I think this thing is awesome. Feels like being high or something.

Something that you could do is, take your 6 year old child for a walk outside to look at the stars and or breath in the cold air. This will usually help as i used to have this as a kid. Also try to comfort them as you take a walk with your child outside.

For me it just happens when I'm tired. It's like I just lose depth perception. I've got it now. I feel like it's just because I'm tired. It's annoying at most. I am not sure it's anything to worry about. I feel it's just my brain saying " that's it I'm done for today. I've had it sense I was little.

I experienced this when I was 3 or 4 years old, but it only happened when I was tired. I remember asking my Mum why everything looked so far away.....it used to come on suddenly, but as I was only little back then, it didn't cause me to worry about it. It stopped happening once I got older, but I would like to find out what caused it. Good to see that so many other people have experienced the same thing. Yep, closing my eyes didn't stop it

My son is almost 5 and has been experiencing this for a couple of years.  Usually at night or when he's sick.  He gets scared and says everything looks far away--me, his doors, his windows, whatever.  He gets anxious about it.  That's all I know.  Don't know what it is or what to tell him, other than to comfort him.  Goes away on its own after 5 to 30 min.

Hello as a child I had this feeling lots. it started around when I was five and continued for a couple more years, happening  randomly throughout the year. It would happen soon after I went to bed. Starting with pulsating white dots and lines moving in patterns, against a black back round and the very intense feeling of everything being far away and close at the same time. I would open my eyes and my vision would be out of wack, corners of ceilings would seem far and close, I would look at my hands and they would look huge but feel far away. What I was seeing didn't match what I was feeling. I would get scared and start to cry because I didn't understand what was going on. It would last only 5-15mins. It was a really hard feeling to describe as a child. My parents didn't know what to do so they took me to a doctor, and I remember him asking me if it was a heart attack, I said yes only because I didn't know what a heart attack was......... problem never was solved by a doctor. I remember the only thing that would calm me down was to sit on the steps outside in my pj's, the cool air would bring me back to normal. I learned to control it a bit by opening my eyes before the feeling got too intense. It went away as i got older, over time the feeling got less intense and eventually i stopped hallucinating altogether. I very rarely get the feeling now when I close my eyes to sleep but never the hallucinations or as intense. I never did find out what it was, hopefully someone could tell me. Good to know i wasnt the only one out there with this feeling seems to be happening to kids around 5, could this be the cause of brain development? or the onset of lots of stress, temperature or maybe even die(sugar)??

I was only talking about this with son today he has Paronoid  schizophrenia and I was telling him about things that happened to me as a teenager. This happened to me in my late teens it was so weird I would just be looking at things and then everything eould suddenly look so small and far away I wasnt scared and just went with it untill things were back to normal it wouls usually last from 30 to 60 mins, I also never told anyone as thought they would think I was weord and woulnt understand, I think it lasted about a year or so then just went away, also as a child of about 9 or 10 I had this weird feeling while walking out that everything was closing in on me and everyone was looking at me and felt very claustrophobic  and bit disoriented, again never told anyone and that seem to go away on its own, never did found out why but talking about stuff today brought it all back, and searching for some clue as to what it may have been brought me to this page
