I have similar "symptoms" to what everybody else has described. The far away thing, I mean. It usually happens when I'm concentrating on something calm. Last time it happened, I was in my therapist's office, just talking. Sometimes it happens when I'm watching TV. Everything just seems to move about two or three timnes farther away than it actually is. I can almost always get it to go away by getting up and doing something, just about anything, active, even just walking around.
I've looked into "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome" (Todd's Syndrome) but I don't feel like that's exactly it. I've mentioned it to a neurologist, but he pretty much shrugged it off.
It doesn't exactly bother me. Just a little unsetlling, maybe. It's happened before, once, while driving. It doesn't seems safe, so I pulled over until I got it to go away.
Someone mentioned a strange dream. I have this recurring, surreal dream. Very difficult to explain. There are lots of large, round obects. I keep trying to climb on top, but it's very difficult/frustrating. Imaginge trying to fold a sphere in half. Not that that's what I'm trying to do, but it's that troublesome.
My brother and sister both know what I'm talking about. Haven't talked to them about the dream, but they've both experienced the far away thing. We call it "the smalls". I do believe there's something genetic about it.
Not sure why I wrote this. Like I said, it's not really a problem, but it's good to hear similar stories.

all in all, don't worry guys, it's nothing, it passes by time, try not to think about it. I found on the internet that it might be "Alice In Wonderland Syndrome" or "Micropsia" but it is somehow too "drastic" to me.
Ok you can try this to help getting over the feeling, as it helps me. Look at one object. The feeling appears. take the object and slowly bring it closer and closer to your eyes. Than slowly take it back where it was in the first place. The feeling will be of much less intensity and you will feel relieved. Just don't panic, as it will be worse. There's nothing wrong with us, just think about those 100 times worse diseases and how we trully are happy for not having them. After all, this is NOT a disease.

I googled the following words "far away vision nightmare" and was surprised I found anything.
I used to have the same sensations as a child, only 3 instances I can remember, but haven't had one since. Before going to sleep I would close my eyes and sometimes see what could only be described as the inside of a twirling twister, then I would open my eyes and everything would appear far away. However this seemed to always be followed by a nightmare, the scariest ones I can ever remember having. They seem ridiculous now but they were always about groups of big round people running passed me and I'm trying to stop them!!??
When I would have these visions before going to sleep I was always freaked out and would have to sleep in my parents room in preperation for the inevitable nightmare! I'm sure if they happened more often I would have controlled them better.
But still I can't believe it happens to people now!?

I first experienced this at the age of 8 whilst on holiday and was suffering from a fever. I experienced the distance perception of objects completely screw up, and really loud noises in my head. Closing my eyes just made it worse. It happened many more times whilst I was a kid and I really struggled trying to explain to my mum what was happening. We went to the doctors and the doctor actually said something along the lines of 'be careful about what you are saying because hearing things/voices and seeing things will look bad if this goes down on your medical record'. The doctor was hinting to my mum some sort of mental illness. I was only 9 years old but this scared the heck out of me.
It's safe to say that it scared me enough to never ever bring it up with anyone ever again. Luckily like many other people have pointed out here, I grew out of it after a couple of years. But every 6 months or so, it still happens, often late at night as I'm trying to sleep. It feels like the hardest thing to explain what is actually happening. It happened last weekend and like I said at the beginning I put my hope in Google, and was shocked/relieved to find this forum.
The first post was 3 years ago i think it said, but thank you to whoever you are. It feels insanely good after 13 years to know that the symptoms are actually part of a real condition and that it has a name! To anyone else who stumbles across this forum, I find the best thing to control the symptoms for me is to stare at my wall from about 6 inches away whilst in bed and this seems to stop everything until I get tired enough to fall asleep.
