I just had a patient with this rare complaint, totally unrelated to my professional field; so I was trying to do a search. This is called "micropsia" for seeing smaller, and "macropsia" for seeing bigger. Google these, but don't get too nervous as the causes listed some of them are serious. AGain being in the medical field I would probably see a neurologist and possibly get an MRI, just for reassurance.

I get this. It's like you're looking at a panorama, when it's just your computer or wall. I also get ocular migraines which are painless distortions of vision, like looking though cracked glass, starting small and growing. I assume this is part of the same thing. I wouldn't worry, but would see a doctor, because forums are the enemy of scientifically sound medical advice.

I have this aswell but it only lasts about an hour and it doesn't seem a million miles away like I'm 10 meters away

Holy ****, I can't believe that so many people have this! I get it from time to time, but mainly when I close one eye and focus on a object. I remember when I was about 7-8 (I'm 17 now) and I used to close my eyes but imagine a square coming really close to me, then flying away (really really really really far away), then all of a sudden jumping back at me. This was really scary for me especially due to my age. It mainly used to happen due to the fact that I used to get really hot whilst in bed at night.

What did your doc say to do? Does there need to be any treatment or let it be? My 7 year old has similar symptoms

It brings me so much relief to see that there are other people who went through the same thing I did. I never thought to look it up until now.

My experience is basically same with the replies above. It always when I was lying in bed, about to sleep. But somehow things seem to draw away from me. The roof appears to be if I were standing 3 meters away. Sometimes I enjoyed it, but there were times when it felt scarry, during which times I just tried to fall asleep and everything was fine again the next morning.

It hasn't happened to me since adulthood.

Does anyone has any answer as to what that is exactly?

I have had the same symptoms over the years as well. The initial occurrence that is most vivid happened when I was 9-10 and suffering from a fever. It was coupled with hallucinations.

This occured again last night while reading a book- I had been reading for 1.5 hours. It is distracting but it quickly subsides.

I am a 37 year old male. I have lately been under a great deal of stress. It is fascinating to read that others have similar symptoms.

I had the exact same occurrences other people described when I was younger (3~10 years old). The "far away visions" happened at night, either before I was going to bed, or when I'd wake up in the middle of the night and everything looked really far away and the ringing in my ears was deafeningly loud. I was born with mild cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus of the brain, so I had a shunt implanted when I was a year old. CAT scans couldn't determine anything about them, but they eventually went away when I was a teenager. Maybe they were "almost seizures" as mentioned in a previous post. But I guess no one really knows the specific name of this bizarre/freaky condition? Would like to know if there is a name for it and if it's possible to come back later in life.

My 8 year old son experiences this. He says that people people up close seem really far awAy- especially their heads. He also said that he could blink and people would get smaller and smaller until he could not see them anymore. He would keep blinking and they would steadily get bigger. The Intermet was a huge help as this introduced me to Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. I hope it will eVentually just go away as I have read it has for others. I just feel it is important to share these stories as they are unique and I hope we can share ways to manage it.
