Kodger, not sure about increasing Vit D yet. I am still taking just one calcium. Honestly, sometime I do think I need more, but my calcium stayed so high after surgery they dropped it to one. I Will see Dr next week. My anxiety attacks are fewer. I am not taking med for them. Look at Yahoo group for hyperth. Great info. stay in touch...txg

Hi Everyone,
So glad to have stumbled upon this site! My dad just had PT surgery 1 week ago. His labs were calcium @ 10.3 and PTH @ 500 pre op.
Post op he was calcium 8.3 and PTH 40. He was sent home and was great the first day. Second day felt horrible.... tingleing, depression, anxiety. We knew about the calcium deficency symptoms and began supplementing. Helped somewhat. Couple days later we are in the ER because he just didnt "feel right". Labs showed calcium 8.1 and PTH 140.
He had 3 parathyroids removed. Bone pain improved immediately and still is pretty good. With his symptoms surgeon expected calcium to be much lower like 6.....
Surgeon does not understand why he feels the way he does when his numbers are not bad.
He is in stage 3 kidney disease.... there are 5 stages for those who are unfamiliar. Is the elevated PTH due to the kidney disease???? We are not sure.
We are puzzled why he is now hypo calcemic and hopefully that will change in the days to come. Do not know the D levels and have the levels of the phosphates and magnesium and they seem to be pretty close to normal. Ionized calcium is very slightly elevated.
What feed back do you folks have.... I would love to hear!!!!!
Thanks!
