My daughter, now in her 30s also experienced similar symptoms after a bout with Mono at 14. Great family Dr did not give up. After many months we went to Johns Hopkins. She had testing that included a tilt table test. All blood work and other tests were "normal" but her requirements were different than "normal" and Hopkins figured it out. She has neurally mediated hypotension. And later in her 20s POTS. Postural orstatic tarcadia syndrome. It is a form of dysautonomia where her involuntary systems are off rhythm and out of sync. These are auto immune diseases. She has a low blood volume. Blood pools in hands and feet. Heart can't pump blood up to her brain. She passes out. Fatigue. Headache. Low blood pressure. Under stress her heart beats too fast. Situations of adrenalin production make symptoms worse. Not all treatment is the same but her treatment included a high salt diet, lots of fluids. Compression stockings. Electrolytes. Lower stress. There are heart meds that are helpful. It's been a very long haul. Although we have been fortunate that she has delivered 3 healthy kids they were very difficult pregnancies. Each one more difficult and dangerous. Again great Dr that did research to learn about her disease and how to keep her and the kids safe. This can run in families. Very few doctors have knowledge on this subject. For children under 18 Dr Rowe at Hopkins is great. Cleveland Clinic, Vanderbuilt are 2 places that take care of adults. Dysautonomia specialist. More cardiologist doctors are becoming aware of this group of illnesses. Good luck. Don't give up.

I'm about 16 and this has just happened to me three days ago when I was waiting in the queue. It was a pretty hot day and I was waiting in the queue (very crowded) alone for about 30 minutes before i started feeling light-headed. At first i thought it would go away quickly, but after a few seconds my vision got really blurry and soon I couldnt see at all, at the same time, the sound was all muffled and I could barely stand, i felt like i was going to faint. It was really scary as i was all alone. I couldnt really move as i couldnt see or hear, and i didnt know whether the line had moved. all i could do was hold onto the bar on the side for some support since my muscles felt really weak and hoped that i didnt lose conciousness. this lasted about 5 or 6 minutes i think before i gained a bit of vision, but still very blurry. about 10 minutes later i was back to normal. this had also happened to me less than a year ago while i was sitting. It doesnt worry me a lot since it doesnt happen often and there doesnt seem to be any after effects from it. but it would be quite scary if it occured to me again. I havent told anyone about this yet, so i hope its nothing serious. Does anyone know what might be the cause?

I was having these for years with no medical answer. I recently began treatment for Lyme and other co-infections. It got much worse before treatment and it got even worse with treatment for the first few months but now I don't have them but I have permanent damage to my nerves effecting my left side. I wish doctors would not jump to the stress cop out!

My daughter has had vasovagal syncope since she was 3. She is now 16 and her most recent episode was yesterday at school. After spending many years with doctors, it sounds to me like your daughter has the same. Since she was sitting at the table, the blood pooled to her legs, the same when she sits in a desk at university. Blood rushes to her legs away from her head and she faints. There can be other triggers as well like hair brushing, too much sun, standing too long. Ask her to try to cross her legs when sitting at the table and not sit up straight, same with desk at school. If she feels like fainting, have her clench her fists to raise her blood pressure and make sure she eats enough salt to raise blood pressure. Try these things and hopefully it will improve. my fear is always my daughter will faint when she is in the bathroom and I am extremely careful with that and stand outside of the bathroom when she is taking a shower

This happened to my sister as well. It's happened four times in the past 6-12 months. She starts with a head ache, then loss of hearing and sight, and lastly she passes out. But she feels fine afterwards and everything is normal. She had a brain scan when this first happened and it was all good. What's wrong with her, I'm worried sick

I'm 21 years old, was recently having a couple of pegs of rum, which I was not even buzzed by and some chinese food at a local diner (which I have been eating at since the past ten years) and all of a sudden I started gasping for breath. Took a moment to stand up but started falling over the table and head went in to a complete dizzyness, lost sensation in my leg, disorientation and partial sight, leaned over a chari for five minutes and everything came back to normal with me going back home and sleeping normally.

I had an anxiety attack a couple of years ago. Is it related or is it something serious?

Hi, I am a 23 year old male experiencing the exact same symptoms you have described. The symptoms started happening only about three weeks ago but I've had several episodes thus far. They have been as minor as seeming like a blackout/faint to total depersonalization/disassociation where I felt totally aware of my body being suspended in an infinity of black nothingness, when in reality I was sandwiched sideways in the tub having falling down against the wall. Sometimes I become terrified with the idea of my consciousness ending in that very moment at the onset of the episode, that my life would end then and there. I have a family history of some depression, heart issues, cancer, etc...I was wondering if anyone had found out anything further on this?

My 10 year-old daughter has had frequent fainting spells for the last 2+ years. At its worst, she faints multiple times per day. We are thrilled when she goes a week without fainting. We have been through all the specialists from cardiology to neurology. She is on meds that help (atenolol and fludrocortisone) because if we wean her off, she gets worse. About 10 months ago she also started to have episodes of temporary vision loss lasting up to an hour+. This is not as frequent as the fainting and sometimes happens after rousing from a faint. More recently she has had temporary hearing loss after a faint. And last night endured a very scary episode of hearing and vision loss at the same time for about 45 mins.

The specialized, segmented medical experience has been very frustrating with few answers that actually help in a consistent and substantial way. We also have encountered Dr's pointing to anxiety and perhaps conversion disorder. It is as if when they don't have ideas for a plan for improvement, they simply point to counseling.

My daughter is an early starter in puberty and has been much taller than her peers for many years. As her mother who has seen her through dealing with this and watched the patterns, I would connect anxiety she has to coping with fainting in her life, not as a root cause for her symptoms; notwithstanding the exacerbating effect of stress on any type of medical condition.  I also see a monthly pattern of a flare up of symptoms that the Drs can't seem to connect.

We recently started seeing an Integrative Medicine specialist who is focused on balancing her overall system (in particular nervous system) through supplements and diet, exercise and stress reduction and other non-Western alternative therapies. It is the first time that I feel a Dr. is looking at her systems as a whole and looking for ways to help her body heal itself.

It is so hard to find clear info and like experiences. Hope we can share more to help each other.

Was she tested for POTS Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome or sodium resistance. Sometimes if the body doesn't hold onto sodium , fliuds pass through the body without being held in the tissues causing dyhydration which can cause the blood pressure to drop and faint. The more fliuds you drink, the more it passes out of the system, taking more sodium with it, which can make the condition worsen. After eating the digestion system draws fliuds out of the system for digestion and if you are low on fluids or dehydrated if can cause you to feel faint. It can be an automonic nervious system disfunction. This condition is often misdiagnosed as an aniety disorder and is actually because of not having enough salt. Some people need more than most. There is a test for POTS which is connected to this problem, it's a Tilt Test to see how your pressure drops on changes in position from lying down to standing and can happen from sitting to standing. At the same time, upon standing the heart rates increases by 20-25 points while the pressure drops. It possibly has a genetic connection and can start in their teens or later in life. It can be triggered by having a viral or bacteria infection or car accident or another trauma or stressful experience. You can read about the symptoms online under autonomic nervious system dyfunctions. It is a miscommunication between the brain and heart, with low blood volume which can be caused by dehydration, caused by not having enough salt in your system. They tell you to increase your salt intake, if symtoms don't improve they can give you something like Florinef which holds the sodium in your body or a vasoconstrictor type medication to control the symptom.. You can squeeze the skin on the top of your hand and if it stays together and stands up after letting go of the pinch, then you can be dehydrated. It can happen even if drinking lots of fliuds. When I was younger the doctor gave me minerals including magnesium, licorice root extract from a compound pharmacy to raise my blood pressure and did acupuncture and it went away in about a year of this treatment. Mainstream medicine uses the licorce root or another drug to raise blood pressure or cause your body to retain the sodium. It needs to be monitored so you don't end up having high blood pressure as a result of the treatment. That's why I liked the integrative medicine approach and it worked with less chances of my system over reacting in the opposite direction..This condition makes you feel bad with lack of energy, etc... there are mider forms of the problem that doesn't cause syncop/ fainting but is more like chronic fatique syndrome. You could try increasing the salt and/or take a good multi mega mineral supplement and see if the symptoms improve along with drinking more fluids.

This just happened to me for the first time last night and I am 13 weeks pregnant. I recommend all ladies getting pregnancy tests as well because I am finding out that blood flow to the moms body decreases because there is blood flow to the baby.
