I have these symptoms as well. And lately when I bend over the wrong way the pain is really bad and I have to stretch until it feels like whatever this is goes back into place! I've always blamed it on being a bit overweight and lack of regular exercise. I'm so glad I found these posts. It seems a lot of people are having the same symptoms.

I thought I was alone in all this. My symptoms started on Thanksgiving of last year and continue to get worse. My blood tests, CT scans, ultrasounds and X-rays have ruled out anything to do with the liver, glallbladder or kidneys and spleen. Not entirely confident about the stomach, so I will be requesting an endoscopy next. My pain seems to come worse after periods of heavy stress and when I bend over, like when working on a puzzle at the kitchen table or at my work desk typing, like I am now. I can feel a hardness under my rib case but lower, close to the bellybutton. Unlike some of you, I can feel mine more concretely. It worsens when I really poke at it. Advice, don't do that... but it's like a scab, you are compelled to it. I also feel it when I walk or move something/carry something with my right arm.

I've had the same issue for many years -- pain and mucles cramps right side ribs, when sitting or bending over or down. Seen all kinds of drs and had numerous test and best guess any dr can come up with is it might be a pinched nerve from the back to the front under the ribs There is some fatty deposit on the liver but drs aren't concerned with that, they say alomost everyone has that and it should not cause the pain and cramps at the right side ribs.
Drs advice is stretching excercies, I've been doing those for a few years every second day and nothing is eleviating any of the pain or cramps from the right side where ribs are. Anyone have any suggestions.

I've had over 20 test by drs and many more by other health professionals and still the dr and health professional have found nothing. When I bend or sit or carry heavy things the right side ribs hurt and muscles cramp. All any dr can say is maybe pinched nerve. If you find a solution let this thread know.

I have had the same thing for years. Just happens when I bend over in certain positions. Doctors brush it off. I happen to mention it to my mom and she gets it too. Mostly getting in and out of bathtub. So must be something with our bodies. I am wondering if organs shift during pregnancy. Could be related?

Not all of the people here seem to have the same symptoms but I have similar symptoms to the original poster. It is a discomfort that develops below the last rib on the left or right side. It usually got worse for me when I was sitting for a long time, or when I put on weight. Felt like something was poking in to my internal organs and I would massage the area but to no effect.
After I had decided I was dying of liver disease I saw a doctor and he examined me and felt my stomach and he explained that it was just my last rib was poking in to a sensitive area. I think that some people's last ribs are sharper than others maybe. It made sense when he showed me a skeleton.
Anyway I lost some weight and stopped sitting still for hours. Now I try to get up and stretch or walk more, say every hour. It is embarassing to stretch at work but I can just walk to the drinks machine or whatever. I think it was mainly losing weight that fixed it but not sitting at a desk for three hours without moving helps.

I also have this exact sensation. When I bend forward, it seems as though the lower ribs on my right side overlap....very uncomfortable. Sometimes they seem to get stuck in that position. Firm massage/manipulation pushes the lower one out from under the one above it. I have found that if I firmly hold the lower one down before I have to bend, it helps. I have been x-rayed, and nothing was found to be wrong. It will bother me for months at a time, and then disappear for months only to return. Drives me crazy!!

I have now had a slight discomfort under my right rib for 5 months. It travels down to my pelvis and around my back. I have had a ultrasound on my liver kidney and gall ladder and they say I have excess gas and diverticulitis plus ibs. But why do I have the discomfort on the right side why does it travel and why is it so uncomfortable. Sometime I cannot sleep as it is just uncomfortable. I am now at the end of my tether. It does flare up when I am stressed but some days its notthere at all. Does anybody else suffer from these symptoms

I am having the same symptoms. Feeling as if something is stuck pushing up under my ribs on the right side. I also have right shoulder pain. I do have gastritis and have been be treating for it. I saw my gastro doc yesterday and told him about this new problem. He will do an ultrasound to check the gall bladder but doesn't feel it is the problem. Feels that since I am getting older, 58, I may be shrinking and compression is involved on nerves. He also feels the 5 pounds I gained may be part of the problem. I don't think that at 5" 1.5" and a 128 pounds is exactly grossly overweight. Oh, and probably poor posture. So, I am trying to decide if I should do the unltrasound or try and loose weight and "improve" my postrue and see if that helps, but frankliy something is different in my body and it bothers me

Hi all...in Feb 2011 I began having these attacks as I call them. Pain on right side of abdomen with a seizing feeling. Pain would sometimes shoot through right arm, up my neck, into my ear or down my leg. All right sided. Couldn't sit, couldn't lay down. All I could do was stand. Husband would massage right side, but these attacks could last for hours. I believe one of the worst involved me standing for approx. 13 hours. I lost 22 pounds as a result of not wanting to put anything in my stomach as that seemed to make it worse. At times the pain would come on for no apparent reason. I was averaging 5 good days a month. I noticed the attacks starting the 5 dys. before my period, the 5 dys. during and the 5 dys. after. My thought, given my age (I was 46 at the time) was perimenopause. The first time it happened, I was rushed via ambulance to ER as I thought I was having a heart attack. Heart checked out fine. Since the first attack, I have been rushed via ambulance 3 other times as the pain is unbearable. I have seen a gasto doc who has run every test...endoscopy, colonoscopy, botox injected in esophagus (they thought it to be esophageal spasms) ultrasound, CT scan, blood work ran, liver tested...etc. They could find nothing wrong. I went on and tried just about every acid reducer medicine no help. One night during an ER visit, they gave me a GI Cocktail...I was fine within min. Went back to Gastro Doc...who prescribed it to me one time...would not give me anymore. Anyway, I suffered with these attacks 15-18 days a month until Nov.1, 2013. Nothing. I could eat and walk and bend over with only a hint of discomfort (especially after a heavy meal). Now, this past Friday, 12/5/14 they started up again, with my worst night Sat. up all night. I have been drinking Gaviscon like water and taking acid reducers/controllers 150 mg. up two twice a day. Minimal relief. But enough that I can lay down. I should also say, that in the beginning of my episodes I always had the need to bear down. As if to push out whatever ws stuck. I have begged them OB/GYN and Gastro Doc to just cut me open and get whatever is in there out, but they think I'm nuts. I was extremely depressed, and even thought of suicide as this was no way to live. I couldn't go anywhere, make commitments or work as fear of an attack kept me homebound. I did find a little massager and would massage the upper and lower right side of my abdomen. I would get a little relief. I now am super scared they are coming back after a year of being attack free. Have to find a new Gastro Doc as the last one threw his hands up and said "I don't know what to tell you". I asked for a GI Cocktail prescription for the nights it was really bad (ie; I would wake up every morning at 3:30 am with the onset of the attack) and he said no...you can get addicted. The only thing that helped and he refused to prescribe it and monitor me. I have no answers, but reading these posts and other message boards, I realize that there are so many people with this similar situation. With that many sufferers, why can't these doctors figure out what's wrong and fix us all. I feel everyones pain. Wish I could get answers. Sorry for the length
