Hey, I have the same thing, I asked my dad who is very familiar with health and medical study, and he says it's probably just a muscle, it could be due to posture, or maybe stretching it in an odd way.

Yes but sometimes it really is painful. Like if i strain in the bathroom, all of a sudden it tightens like a leg cramp and i feel it tightening like a knot. It really hurts for like a minute or so. It almost feels like something moving around in there, weird. Never felt anything like this until about a year ago up to now.

I have had many symptoms described on here... I've felt pressure (I wouldn't call it pain) on my lower to mid right abdomen... bloodwork came out all negative, pelvic ultrasound came back negative... However, lower abdominal ultrasound shows I have a 2 cm x 1.75 cm gallstone. All other organs are fine. CT of lower abdomen showed mild ileium (just gas) and possible microscopic ovarian cysts but that was ruled out by pelvic ultrasound. I may get the gallbladder out eventually if it starts to bother me too much though.

After reading all your posts, I have the same problems. I feel like I have an alien living inside me that moves and gets stuck under my right rib especially after eating. I have had all possible tests and my conclusions are, because I have Metabolic Syndrome and fatty liver is one of the four criteria it causes the problems. I am overweight and if I go over a certain weight it stirs it up and I have the problems all report with discomfort, pressure and a feeling something is bulging or pressing under my ribs with bloating and tightness. I usually am able to settle it by going on a stricter diet and dropping a couple of kgs which is hard having a Metabolic problem, however it does settle down and can go away until I get careless and put on the extra weight again. In the past I have had mid back pain especially when walking which is caused from the liver swelling. My logic tells me if my liver is swollen then it will push against other organs and ultimately cause the discomfort you all report.
I hope this allays some of the fear you may have and avoid unnecessary surgery if all your tests are negative. While my experience may be different to yours I don't suggest you ignore it, however if losing a few kgs helps then it could be your problem and you would be advised to watch your weight and look after your liver. Chances are like me it will flare up if you put any lost weight back on. I stopped eating all fried food and anything that had fat in it for about 3 months and it was great until I got careless, so back to dropping some kgs after indulging over Xmas.

I first got a sharp pain when bending forward quickly under rib area on my right side 5 years ago. It was the time I gained lots of weight. It continued until a year ago when I finally lost weight. I don't have it since no matter how quickly I bend. My guess is that there was missing space between ribs and some organs due to excess fat.

My GP referred me to GI doc a couple years ago to have the knot checked - nothing found - but it isn't always in the area even with or lower than the ribs. I have knots on my ribs, but also a varying number of dime sized knots in the tissue covering my ribs - not in the skin, but deeper. I've had fairly constant pain with these this last week - one at the rib line is SO sore- feels like a boil. So is this common among people who have gluten intollerance? I, too, have Hoshimotos thyroid condition and this week, have had shooting pains from my collar bone up the right side of my neck - several tiny nodule-feeling places when I try to find out "what's hurting" so badly. Probably not related, but my poor hearing has gotten much worse this last month. Thanks for your forthcoming advice.

Hi I have the same thing. 56 year old female. Bend over and something gets stuck. I have to straighten up fast to get it unstuck. Had an ultrasound and came out as fatty liver but my doc says that's not what's getting stuck in my ribs. I had put weight on and this started. I lost the weight and it went away. Now the weight is back and I have that same thing getting stuck when I bend over. I think it's the fatty liver.

I wrote a post concerning this quite a while back. After tons of tests and tons of copays I ended up dieting and lost 20 lbs. The problem has gone away . . . completely!

I have had this (i wouldnt call it pain but rather an uncomfortable pressure under my right rib) for about 3 years now. U/S shows nothing (no stones, no enlargement in liver or gall bladder etc). Chest Xrays were clear. I had a complete hysterectomy in 2011 and after the surgery this weird pressure went away. My Dr said I had tons of scar tissue (organs grown together etc) from 3 past csections that he had to clean up so I figured the scar tissue must have been the source. But, 6 months ago this irritating pressure returned. GRRRR I just had a $5000 round of blood work done that tested me for everything, and every level you can imagine and it all came out perfect. I am beyond sick of this feeling.....it interferes with my sleep, with my job, with driving........I am always uncomfortable and constantly readjusting my position trying to relieve this feeling. Recently it has begun wrapping pain around to my shoulders and back. Two things I noticed reading through all these replies are someone mentioning Hashimotos Disease, and several others mentioning acid reflux............both of which I have. Very confused, and completely sick of this......there has to be a reason we all have this problem, why cant any Dr figure it out???

I also have a similar issue, though I feel that the symptoms reported in this thread are oscillating somewhat based on overlap of posts. I have a chronic "ache," I guess you could say, on my right side. I think it just feels more "alien," as someone else put it, and it travels. It doesn't really hurt, it just feels like something is remiss...it is usually just below my ribs on either the front or back side of my body. I have found that heated car seats help, and that it is worse when sitting or lying down. Some days, or weeks, it is here to stay while at other times I don't even notice (and once I do finally notice, and am thankful, it comes back...that might be psychosomatic though. Probably is?). Maybe I'm just too fat. I dunno.
I *do* drink, now, so of course my liver is a concern. I don't have the healthiest diet or lifestyle but I'm currently 33 and had maybe 15 drinks total between the ages of 21 and 27, with roughly 360 days per year during that time not including a single drink. Also back when I wasn't drinking (irony ensues) I was in the army and working out literally on a daily basis, except for weekends...This ache seems to come and go though. It's around for a few weeks or months, then gone...then is back. Lately it's been more chronic. Of course I worry about my liver, but I had an ultrasound last year after about six months of this nonsense and was told that I looked fine. I've since had bloodtests done, and my GP (he's an internal med guy, which by the way, for your GP just get an internal med doc...they're usually way more versed on craziness and weird symptoms and possible illnesses, and it doesn't cost more, at least in the states; this was a tip from an ER surgeon I am friends with) said that while my bloodtests (liver enzymes) looked fine for the most part, my ST levels were slightly elevated and he couldn't understand the symptoms so he's sending me to a specialist (GI).
That appointment is next week. I'll jump back on here hopefully and let you know what they say. I imagine it'll be more bloodwork, etc. I think/hope it is a gallbladder issue vice a liver one. I'm something of a hypochondriac so of course I worry about my liver and cirrhosis. That being said, I don't think I really meet any of the other cirrhosis symptoms aside from "ouch my liver or something else feels swollen!" Though I have chronically loose stool (ladies, don't start lining up yet! :)).
Anyways I'll let you know. I hope it's nothing serious but of course I am the sort of personality to obsess about stuff like this.
Wish me luck, I hope each and every one of us figures out this nonsense. :)
