Hello,
I'm writing from the hospital's computer and wanted to let you know that my doctor said that it isn't dangerous to have this substance, but if it bothers you, in the sense that it is indeed disgusting and stinks, and one does have bad breath, it is a good idea then to have your tonsils taken out. Mine are out, and I'm recovering in a german hospital. I'm American but live here in Germany now. So don't be too alarmed about this, it is curable, just by having your tonsils taken out. Some people have to have them taken out, I should also say, because they get many throat infections from this substance. I just didn't like have yellow stinky blobs squeezing out of my throat.
Regards,
Dd

I ate some soup that mightve been a little old and right after i ate it there was this annoying thing in my throat. It didnt hurt when i swallowed but it wasnt a nice smooth swallow. I took a shitload of lozenges and i think it mightve done the trick!

Sounds like tonsil stones to me. They bothered me at first but now I play with them. They smell terrible. If you let them dry out you get to see the buildup. Pretty gross but I find it fun (i have a boring job). Also, since they smell so bad you can stick them in your friends faces for fun....I'm so cool

For a month, I have had a sore throat, the feeling like something stuck in my throat when I swallow, burning sensation at times, affecting the vocal chords, almost like a canker sore next to the vocal chords, that hurts and is inflamed.
My doctor said it is viral, but tried two antibiotics in a row (Amoxicillin and Zithromax) and both didn't work, but seemed to irritate it more.
I had a throat culture for strept which was negative.
However, the woman who took the throat culture said that a virus is going around and produces canker sores.
Then I looked up "Herpangina" virus and it is a virus that is marked by a few days of fever first, and can cause dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and vesicopapular lesions of the muscous membranes of the throat.
Look it up.
At first I thought maybe it's acid reflux cause all the symptoms are similar.
But, I never had any problem digesting food.
So, I am focusing on building my immune system, eating protein (red meat chewed very well.
Also, got a humidifier, because I'm taking Benydrl every other day - it does seem to take down the inflammation, relaxes me so there is no acid reflux caused from lots of worry about the weird situation, and am giving the virus time to run it's course.
Yes, the symtoms are bothersome and unpleasant.....but I'm sure over time it will get better.
Just trying not to bombard my system with too many drugs and their toxins which have to be processed out evenually.. sucking on lots of popsickles, drinking milk seems to soothe it, eating jello and easy to swallow food...nothing rough.
Good luck to everyone else who has this now!

Years ago I had this problem you people are describing about the yellowish chunks coming out of your tonsils sometimes followed by a little yellowish white fluid. I hate to tell you this but it's not food...it's pus. The chunks are solidified pus that forms in the holes of your tonsils to kind of form a baricade to keep them from becoming very infected. You may find your tonsils a little larger, sometimes inflamed and you may have more throat infections because of it but as the problem is chronically there, you often feel quite normal and not sick at all. I went to the doctor because of it and he didn't have much to say about it and told me I was too skinny and wanted to put me on some pills I didn't need. I thought the best thing I could do was have my tonsils removed which is why I went to the doctor in the first place but instead I left and never went back to that doctor.
Anyway...I used to be a smoker and the smell of the chunks is like...oh, let's see.....the smell of an ashtray that someone has crapped in. It's truly is digusting. It is your tonsils trying to protect themselves from an acute infection and it is the buildup of white blood cells and yeast.
I no longer have this problem and I am convinced that the reason the problem went away is because I stopped drinking beer and stopped smoking. Allow me to explain. Beer contains carbonation and smoking is an irritant to the throat. When you drink beer or soda, don't you feel a slight burning sensation around in the exact same area these chunks come out of? Most people do, I think....especially those who have had tonsilitis before...perhaps as a child because the blisters that can sometimes form on the tonsils will form the predisposistion of these crypts. When these crypts are constantly irritated the body's immunity will try to plug up and heal the holes with white blood cells, they harden and chunks come out when you press on the surrounding area.
The toxins from cigarette smoke will only make it worse and cause the odor to be worse as well.....so....lay off things that might irritate your throat that is basically eating holes in your tonsils. You can actually feel this happening as you drink a soda or beer. the thing about beer is that after a while your throat just becomes numb and you forget about it and the fact that there is yeast in beer probably does not help the situation and only helps the chunks form. i'm not saying this happens to everyone but some people just have a weak set of tonsils to begin with. I personally think the tonsils are neccesary and would rather avoid what is causing the problem than to have unneccesary surgury to remove something I might need.
If you must have an alcoholic beverage (which is certainly not going to help your body fight off toxins but I won't get started) I would suggest you drink something that does not contain bubbles.
I mention beer primarily before soda because usually beer drinkers drink more beers in one day than people who drink soda but it wouldn't suprise me if soda caused it or something like it....at least an irritation of the tonsils.
I know this will probably be disputed and not all beer drinkers get these and some will say "I don't drink beer!"...but there is much logic to it if you just sit and think about it for a minute.
I'm telling you...I quit drinking the beer...problem was solved and it was a problem that perplexed me for years.

I don't mean to sound critical but I too was suspicous of the "doctor/professors" comments on a more simple level...so many misspelled words.
I can't imagine that a well educated individual would spell so many words wrong. If I'm wrong I apologize, but in the event you are not a doctor I believe it is in everyone's best interest to not come across as one.

Hope this helps anyone out, but there's a pretty annoying technique to getting those STINKY-ASS things out.
I guess I got bored in band and just kept playing with the openings in my throat-- ie tensing it and just moving the back of my mouth in all ways.
WHERE I FELT IT WORSE, and stank most, i'd keep it there and fight to get that thing out...
I rarely get one, but I had a HUGE one today... and it took me the whole day to get it out. I searched on the web to figure out what the hell they were. It was the biggest one I ever came across... disgusting. I used to have a lot of tiny ones, but this was like... a pebble cluster.
But I don't think you need to go to the doctor. It's so hard... but you just have to keep playing with your throat. I was spitting all day, doing the mouth-wash, nearly throwing up, but it REALLY made my day when it finally came out.
Damn little HEFFER!
Did someone say it was PUSS?! SICK!
Makes sense, but I thought it was food, too.
Oh well. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

I have the same problem. Every now & then something comes flying out of my mouth. Usually if I'm singing or yelling. It's white hard substance. & yes it does taste bad in my mouth afterwards. I was thinking that maybe it's food. But, recently I've had this weird tingling feeling in the back of my throat or tonge. It also feels like a piece of hair is at the back of my throat. It's really annoying!!!

I have the exact same thing - every few months I have what feels like a wall of phlem at teh back of my throat and it feels like I should be able to cough it up. It feels like food is catching at the back of my throat. it's a bit painful when I swallow but otherwise I don't feel ill.
If anyone here gets an answer out of their GP and has tests could they please post something here? My doctor thinks it's just a recurring viral infection but there must be some kind of treatment?
Thanks!

My daughters have suffered with what you are explaining for years. One of them had her tonsils out when she was 17 and now doesn't have the problem anymore, the other daughter still has her tonsils and still gets the yellow hard puss in her throat.
What that is, is food and phlem deposits that build up in holes in your tonsils. If you have what I think you have, it's called "cryptic tonsils" and your tonsils, like a person w/ acne have large pores. The best way to get rid of these, of course is to have a tonsilectomy, but most doctors won't perform this unless you get tonsilitis on a frequent basis. Otherwise, see an Ear, Nose and Throat Doctor for the proper oral hygiene and gargle w/ a cup of warm salt water + 2 tbls hydrogen peroxide, 2 x daily. DO NOT SWALLOW!

I have recently had this also for the past few months.Unlike the "yellow" Lumps There is NOTHING there.....But I do agree that It often feels like a hair and on some occassions it has evenfelt like it was near my nasal cavity in the back of my throat. Another poster said something about feeling it more after a coffee. Not sure if it's related but I'll kinda agree with them that sometimes after drinking a coffee the sensation feels worst but I think it's te hot water and not the coffee directly.(Then again i'm no Doc so can't say for sure.)
I've seen 3 docs now, One blamed it on smoking and instantly said it was throat cancer, She refered me to a specialist and short of her freaking me out the specialist found absolutly nothing! He told me if it continued to go see him in a few months.... After a few months passed I went to another doc and again...No results. I'm getting very pissed off as this is rather annoying at best.
However Thursday coming I am goingagain to the doctor. *fingers crossed* Using these posts I'll be hoping to have some answers for some of you...

Well sorry for the delay, But here is the update.
I did learn something new at the doctors, It turns out that we have 2 sets of tonsils. 2 on our tongues and it would seem we have two in the back of our throats which are actually called Adenoids.
Which you can see for your self here entnet.org/healthinfo/throat/tonsils.cfm.
Now according to my visit at the doctors. It would seem to be like this. I have not had my tonsils removed. and it would seem that as you get older the ones in the back of your throat...the Adenoids
would "shrink" this in turn leaves little cavities in it's place the cavities accumulate saliva and sometimes mucus which block the tiny hole. Supposidly this would lead to a very tiny swelling. Now by swelling the sweeling if you will seems to be what irritates us.
A simple explination would be that since any small amout of skin which is displaced or swollen in your throat seems larger then it really is this would cause the sensation of a hair as it is constantly rubbing on the side of your throat.
Does this make sense. Yes it would. Now do I agree with it. I can't really say.But that is what I was told this time around.
Maybe in a coule more months I'll go back and try to get a second opinion.

I too have had this feeling for about six weeks. There is a feeling like a small lump in the middle my throat. I also experienced heart palpitations. I put this down to to much smoking and coffee. But 6 weeks later and nicotine and coffee free I still have this feeling, though the palpitations are not so bad.
I so far have put this down to stress as I am losing my job soon and also the fact I work in a chilled enviroment. Over the last few days I have noticed that a lympth node on the left side of my face has become swollen. There is no pain in my throat and no matter how hard I try I cant force all the plhegm up, when I do it is clear and not colored in any way. Some days are not so bad as others and I can forget about it for a while when I am occupied, but it is just so annoying. I am 26 years old now an ex smoker. I wonder if quitting smoking has exaserbated this problem.
