This also causes some pains in my back also, which i have been told it could be where the acid is attacking my food pipe it hits nerves and cause discomfort and pain.
Hope this helps, i am going back to the doctors to get this sorted once and for all as the medication does not work

I have no idea if I'm experiencing the same thing the doctor above mentioned, but I too can feel some pressure in my throat from time to time and this has been occuring every couple of months or so since I was about 10 years old. I first discovered it one day when I felt something in my throat while brushing my teeth. I accidently hit the back of my throat a few times with the brush (as I was brushing a little fast). Suddenly I started gaging and I almost threw up. I coughed really hard and out came a small chunk of hard yellow substance.
As time has gone by I have become used to it building up in my throat. Every so often as I feel the pressure build I will get in front of the mirror and stick my tounge out and squeeze my throat muscles. This usually causes a small amount of yellow substance to start sticking out of the back of my thoat. I'll then take the end of my toothbrush or a q-tip and push near the affected area and watch the think chunky yellow substance come squeezing out of my throat like some really thick toothpaste. I know - it's disgusting.
Once you get it out it smells horrible. Almost exactly like c**p. Seriously. It is horrible smelling.
I have found that I have one friend who also discovered this on his own and has been doing the same ever since.
I have noticed that I can tell when I need to 'drain' it because I can either feel the excess pressure or I can taste a wierd taste in my mouth. The only other clue is excessive bad breath - which I have been able to identify.
I've really wondered what this was... Any clues?
This sounds like what's called a tonsillolith or tonsil stone, which is a cluster of calcareous matter that forms in the rear of the mouth around or on the tonsils. They can range up to the size of a peppercorn and are a white or cream color. They are linked to bad breath and stink real bad just like you've confirmed. They have a lot of sulfuric compounds in them.
The good news is that they're not harmful and are only a nuisance. They eventually fall off your throat if you can't cough or scrape them out.
I used to get them fairly often, like 2-3 times per year, and they would annoy the c**p out of me. I always felt like I had a hair or piece of food stuck in my throat somewhere. It was very difficult to get them out, too, and I'd go for a week or two before the problem would go away.
