I have had the same feelings as others have experienced. I went to a ENT and he placed a mirror down my throat (yes, it was uncomfortable), but he said I had inflamation in my throat caused mainly by Acid Reflux. He suggested that I take Nexium, twice a day. I have quite a bit of phlem with this also, and I am going back to him because this really has not fixed the problem. I am getting worried because there is always the dreded "C" word we all are scared of. I feel this is associated with acid reflux, however, I don't seem to have it under control at this time. I will let you know if I get another diagnosis.

i was looking it up yesterday, and i found this site. I noticed that you guys had the same problem as me. and it's called Cricopharyngeal spasm. i found it on this other site.

voicedoctor.net/therapy/cps.html

it is actually brought on by stress, and since you stress about the lump in your throat, it feels like it will never go away. i too thought it might have been throat cancer, but after i read from that site, it's the next day now, and the lump sensation is gone!!

do you guys remember the movie "My Girl"? and how she says she feels like she has a chicken bone in her throat? well, this is pretty much what was wrong with her.

i hope this helps you guys out! : )

I am 56yrs old and several days again I suddenly noticed that when I swallowed it felt as if something in the back of my throat was getting in the way and causing slight pain (not sore). This does not happen every time I swallow, but frequently. I can swallow food, no problem, but like I said every once in a while it feels like something gets in the way of the process of swallowing. I also have pressure in both ears and my left eustation tube (I think). I had this swallowing thing once before years ago and I went to an ENT who looked down my throat and told be I had carotiditis. I'm wondering if allergies could do this, since I have been sneezing and have had nasal congestion since January (I live in Ct). What do you think?

Wow, I thought I was the only one that had this problem. My doctor told me to watch what I eat and that it might be allergies. I didn't believe her and felt stupid because the allergy medicine isn't fixing it anything. I have the feeling constantly in my throat the majority of the day. It doesn't matter what I do. Sometimes I feel gross because I swallowed air incorrectly and have to keep clearing my throat continuously. After I eat anything, ANYTHING, my throat feels like there's something in it and it feels like I have food coming back up from my stomach into my throat. No yellow stones have come up for me, though. Would this be acid reflux or one of the other things mentioned?

Hi all
Last night while sitting with my husband watching tv, I suddenly felt I had something stuck in my throat, i tried coughing to clear it out and this didnt help, i continually would drink water hoping this would help, but that didnt work either. I suddenly was having trouble swallowing. Of course I paniced becasue this has happened to me in the past. I didnt mention it to my husband because he seems to get upset when i tell him this is happening and I panic. Well Im still here this morning after sleeping semi ok last night, the lump feeling is gone, but now my fear is that it will return. Doctors tell me its Gerd. I take Prilosec daily for over a year now and it just doesnt seem to be helping. I dont carry any insurance which makes me avoid going back to the doctor. It really super hard living like this and I dont know what to do. Im mad, sad, scared, fustrated!! Any help or advice??? Thank you

yea i got an actually very large fingernail (humbly admits he is nasty). SO anyways, It felt like it was behind my right tonsil, then it started to move after two months into my throat, then it moved up again behind my left tonsil (but I think its actually further back behind my soft pallette). so anyways, now its moved again down close to the stomach but not there and back up again and goes up behind my tonsils and then when I swallow back down. Right now it feels like its by my kidney. Karatin does not digest so no matter how much acid goes up in my throat, it never changes... It stays. The thing I need help with understanding is... Is there another tube that it can go down besides the larynx or esophogus. Because I can breathe find (most of the time) and i can swallow food fine (plus when i try to throw up, the food comes out but the nail just gets stuck back up behind my tonsil. It moves around so much it tears up my throat. (or something somwhere) do you think it is in my esophogus but is too big to get out? OR is it stuck in an alternate tube, like a mucus duct or something? Because Im really confused and have no money or insurance to get an endoscopy. The doctor told me it was reflux, but I am 100% convinced it is not because of how i feel it scraping as it moves up and down my throat (or where ever). ... its like theres a special tube that goes from behind the throat to the left kidney... I am so scared and everyday it hurts more... Anti biotics and ant acid are to no avail...this is an actual obstruction. Just not sure where it is. If I did know, I could at least know what doctor to see. gastrologist, ENT,...

Thanks to anyone that knows.

After a lot of internet investigation several years ago, I found my "lump in the throat" (accompanied eventually by throat dryness and dry cough) to be nothing more than an allergy to aspartame. I quit all using all diet drinks with aspartame, and the lump feeling went away. To make sure, I tried diet sodas again, and the feeling came back.

Recently I've run into the same problem, and again I've managed to isolate the culprit -- this time it's a dietary supplement.

Please consider the possibility of allergy.

I have been reading what you have posted and as a Dr. and prof. of the University of Illinois, I can tell you exactly what is happening. The epiglottis is enflamed, anywhere along the wall of your throat, it starts near the top of your throat and exceeds down. Once the enflamation reaches the base of you ducts ( bottom of your throat) feeling like there is food there, it can become a serious issue. The infection is in relation to menangitis, a serious and sometimes fatal sickness. It is a viral bacteria, caused by old food that had yet to be swallowed or a bacteria culture still under study here at the university. My suggestions are as follows. Under the supervision of a friend or family member take a clean Q-tip and stick you tounge out as far as possible. Swab the infected area being sure to have full grasp on the Q-tips end! If the end of the Q-tip is yellow, this means that there is a rapid phlem build up. Reasons you may not have noticed the phlem, is because of the quick hardening of it, due to the bacteria. Once you are through with this procedure and find yellow substance in your throat please contact you doctor as soon as possible. This is a highly contagious bacteria growth and needs to be treated with medical attention IMEDIATELY.

After reading the comment from the person who nailed this so called doc, I read what he had said and have to agree that this guy is no doctor. He can't even spell medical words correctly. It is INFLAMMATION, not enflamation or enflamed. I was in the medical health profession for 18 years and hope someone sees what a fraud you are and yanks your license forever! Your entire "advise" to this person was b.s. and all you are doing is scaring someone who probably has something more like pharyngeolaryngitis-muscle spasms usually caused by stress and frequently helped with muscle relaxers. People please, keep searching for answers!!!

Hey Guys, I've just gotten back from a Neck/Ear/Throat specialist, and I thought id share with you what I've learned.

I'm a smoker, i smoke about half a pack a day. I started to get inflamed lymph-nodes on the right side of my neck, and a horrible feeling on the right side of my throat, in the back. A feeling of something always constantly being stuck or lodged in my throat.

After the first few visits to a family General Practice Physician, he told me to just basically suck it up, and that everyone gets inflamed lymph-nodes. But I was consistent in re-booking appointments that he finally sent me to a specialist.

When i got there, the specialist doctor felt my neck, asked me a couple of questions, and knew exactly what he needed to do, and where to look. He went and got a fiber-optic camera, and slid it through my nose, and down the back of my throat.

His diagnosis was that, the cartilage in my nose, wasn't lining up with my nose bone. Creating a block on the right side, which caused mucus and salavia etc to build up and create a small bacterial infection. Now honestly, i can't remember how he explained the process of the infection getting to the back of my neck. But he had a camera, and saw that there was some sort of infection at the back of my neck, close to my Adams apple, i recall him saying close to the top of my voice box.

Just passing my information off to all of you, because for the last 8 months of my life, I initially thought I was going to have cancer, or that doctors wouldn't pay any attention to my discomfort, and I would have to live with swollen bumps in my neck for the rest of my life.

But I now am taking a prescription for 20 days, 2 pills a day. If anyone is interested in more medical information, please contact me gvargo@gmail.com.

Like so many others suffering, I too feel like something is in my throat. Although my sensation come on suddenly out of the blue. It feels like pepper or something stinging, then the more I try to clear it, the more my throat starts closing up and I can bearly breath. I try and stay calm and hope that it passes yet the body's natural response is to try and clear the throat to keep from choking. I too have seen several Dr.s and they each say something else. Am I the only one that feels like I am suffocating with my throat closing up?

I to have the lump thing......and I must admit, I'm glad all of you do too. I know that sounds weird but I've been convinced of cancer. After reading these posts I see sooooooo many the same as mine. A chunck of lump I feel I should be able to cough up or swollow down but can't. No pain, sometime feels as if it is gone........then is back. I read what the nurse posted and thought about it. This started about 3 days ago, I'm not sure about the timing.......But I do remember drinking a fluid and having it go down wrong.....the type that feels like a huge lump goes all the way down with the liquid. Also I find the stress factor interesting as I have been very stressed out lately. I guess I can deal with the unpleasentness of this situation......and the stress has been reduced by the knowledge that so many of you feel this same lump and so far no one is talking cancer.
