Have started using flaxseed for about a month. Past week just started noticing some small amounts of reddish gel like substance sometimes outside and sometimes inside stool. Could flaxseed cause this?

I sometimes have a similar problem due to a fissure. The gel is normal and necessary, but generally blends in visually with the stool. The red you see is possibly due to blood mixing in just north of dodge (higher up would likely be dark red). See a doctor because blood in the stool can be an indication of a minor problem such as mine or a major one such as rectal cancer.

Hi,
If you are using flax seed for constipation then you did the right thing. Flax seed contain high amount of fiber that will help you with your constipation problems. The gel substance that you noticed in your stool is a positive thing that indicates that the treatment works. The flax seed forms this gel inside your intestine and it helps you to pass your stool easier. The thing is that you need to drink enough water while you are taking flax seed. You are using flax seed long now, do you still have problems with constipation? If you are experiencing still constipation, you can easily use flax seed with other laxatives and other constipation supplements.
I hope that this helped.
