Just came back from the ear clinic, I had no wax, nor an infection; Dr found nothing wrong.
I was sort of pushing to get an ear wash since I get this every 2 years or so and an old good ear wash worked everytime.
Instead he prescribed a nasal spray. I'll get it by tomorrow.
Every other night, I wake up to my ears draining. This clear liquid wants to come out my left ear, it's not much though (never get to wet the pillow or somethin') but the space there is so limited (that's what she said) that it feels like a goddamned waterfall. It also itches a bit. However... I googled the stuff he prescribed, of course, and I hear you can't do the nasal spray for long 'cause there are as addictive as f*****g crack.
Well, I hope I helped somebody thru this.

I had this pretty much most of my life. I'm 42 and I thought it was completely normal and that everyone experiences it until I mentioned it to my husband and colleagues. Found out I'm the only one. It was never an issue to me. From time to time, I'll all of a sudden feel the tickle of liquid trickling in my ear. I'll tilt my head to help it along. It's ckear, not a lot but it's there. I'll get a QTip to get the fluid out, its not earwax. I have, however, for some reason can no longer swim under water without earplugs. I got an ear infection from snorkelling in Mexico, then from a pool here in Canada, then in a lake. It's sucks to have to wear earplugs all the time now. nice to see I'm not alone. I've never even mentioned it to doctor. Think I may at my next appt

I went to the Dr. today after 5 yrs. of dealing with this very same problem everyone is describing. I told her my ears were itchy and driving me nuts with constant clear non waxy fluid coming out of both my ears. It is much more severe when I lay down, especially on which ever side I'm laying on. It's so irritating and itchy that as soon as I wake up in the morning I run for a q-tip. There's never wax that comes out just water-like miosture on the q-tip. So when my family practice Dr. looked in my ears she said there's no imflammation or redness and that I should just keep cleaning my ears with q-tips. I was thinking what is wrong with her? What part of last 5 yrs. does she not understand? Also my ears will both crust over and harden into flakes if I resist cleaning them (which is hard to do). I really wish I can have help with this, I really can't live with this the rest of my life, but my Dr. acted like it was nothing and basically brushed it off.

In reply to JWL; exactly what I've had for 5 or 6 years, been to ear doc, blew me off, was tested for CSF leakage , not that, no idea why it happens , seems no one else does either. The itching drives me crazy, I've been sleeping on my left side recently to facilitate draining, seems to help with the vertigo & nausea some working on the theory that its better to let them drain than not good to know I'm not alone with this, Q-tip Kings & Queens unite !!:)

yes I have the same issue but don't have a waxy smell, my ears water ONLY because I poke and probe it because of the itch. I have seen three doctors who have each taken swabs and all have given me temporary relief - drops in ear also antibiotics but the problem always back by the following week.. I tried using t tree oil that stung like buggery tried baby oil - messy then moved on to coconut oil that wasn't too bad. One day the itch got that bad I dare not use anything to probe it knowing it would make it water so with desperation I popped some vicks vabour rub on my lil finger and gently touched the opening of my ear... the coolness took the itch away and there was no water substance oozing from my ear...it dried the ear so showering wasnt a problem being a jelly substance what a relief but temporary as I know this problem with still persist.

i feel your pain! i had a dr laugh at one of my visits! i also had them tell me i was fine too. i finally found a dr that is workign with me. its so hard, cause it keeps me up all night! i was given clotrimazole topical solution and cipro HC OTIC and when i used these drops regularly they both helped. when i stopped it came back. however, a few days or weeks of relief can be a god send when you are dealing with this.
