does it feel like a heartbeat?

Thank you! I have been totally non-active with my new job and also stopped working out and lots of time on the couch. Lol. I guess the fluttering I’m feeling is my new trainer trying to tickle me into action. Lol

There seems to be two issues here, and I've had both, so . . .

If it only feels like a butterfly occasionally fluttering in your chest and you are otherwise healthy, it's probably heart palpitations from stress, anxiety or too much caffeine (or all of the above). They are harmless, but a signal that you need to reduce stress and/or caffeine.

I also get the sharp pain on my left rib (especially just to the left of the sternum) that feels like someone is boring their finger into my rib and it radiates to the back, chest, causes spasms, even pain down my arm, etc. You swear you have some serious organ or heart problem, but for me it's acid reflux. Here's a quick and easy way to determine if it's acid reflux (at least it works for me). Take some Pepto Bismol. It coats your insides, which temporarily protects it from the acid attacks. If you get relief within a half hour to an hour, then you know it's probably acid reflux causing your problem. (Pepto causes dark stools, so don't freak out if your poop is black for a day or two after). If the Pepto worked, then you'll need to take some sort of acid reducer or blocker until your insides heal. I like Pepcid AC for minor heartburn. If that doesn't work, I switch to something like Nexium for about 2 weeks. If you're really bad off, you might need to take it for 4 weeks. I also avoid overdoing it with fruit and wine, and drink a quality low-acid coffee (Collectivo organic dark French roast or Sumatra works best for me). Cheap coffee ALWAYS gives me heartburn. So does too much fruit and/or wine.

Now if you have these pains along with numbness down your left arm, or nausea, sweats, vomiting, general ill feeling, or the pain is so bad it jolts you awake at night, you need to get it checked out asap.

Dehydration can cause an imbalance in electrolytes and potassium levels, you should seek medical advice to rule out a heart issue, but without pain it is more likely a muscle twitch that maybe eliminated by restoring your bodies natural balance with Gatorade or pedialyte to replace body salts and potassium, bananas are also a good source of potassium.

Hi. I had this pulsation and baby kicking sensation under left rib cage area for a week. I found out it was gas and bowel movement issue. As soon as I started taking fiber for a day and stool softner and had a good bowel movement, the pulsation wentcaesy. I’m so relieved!

I get the same fluttering too, but along with the fluttering, I get burning sensation in the same spot. So I went to get an ultrasound and I was diagnosed with gastrointestinal disease. :(

so glad i found this post a year later but still, i cant find anything on it but i started noticing mine fluttering feeling like it goes numb but then it passes, comes and goes but just about daily for a few months now, its annoying but not painful so i have an appointment with a general practitioner to rule out anything major. now reading all this could be due to excercise and not enough sleep. and anxiety..thank you

Has anyone experienced twitches and/or tickling sensation around or in the colon? It happens mostly just as I am laying down for bed.
