So i just got an IUD inserted yesterday, and today I'm having foul smell spotting. The doctor's office told me it's probably just the iodine clearing out with the bleeding, but they didn't say how long it would last. Has anyone else had to deal with this nonsense, and if you have, how long did it take to get rid of the odor?

I've had the same issue. A week after a colposcopy and the smell is still there! How long did it take for the smell to go away with you?

Hello.

What actually vaginal smell causes? I am not sure. Because, just like you girls, I had this issue. I had the Skyla inserted three days ago and every moment since that day, whenever I go to the toilet, I have this ugly smell that I can't stand and I even can't describe it. It is ugly. To be honest, I am not concerned about this, but now when you are saying this, it makes me wonder do I have the same problem like you? And if that is true, who I should ask about this? Should I visit my doctor again? What to do to make this ugly smell go away.

Well actually ive had this stupid thing in for 4 months now. The odor is still there and has gotten tons worse. It literally smells like... death. I have the odor if I am on my period, don't wash myself every day, and whenever I am intimate with my husband. If I put my fingers inside of me then I can smell it on my hand very prominently, and all of the time, even shortly after I shower. I'm getting really tired of it... My doctor wants me to give it more time though... not sure what to do.

Thank you so much for this blog! I really thought something was wrong with me. Two weeks ago I had the Skyla inserted and I have been having this horrible foul smell at the same times that you have explained in your blog. I hate it.......I see that you posted this 6 months ago.......did you give it more time to see if the smell would go away??

i don't have a question but I was experiencing the same thing. I thought the odor was from my BV (my doctor inserted the skyla shortly after treatment of the BV) that didn't completely leave my system . After numerous trips back & forth to the dr. She recommended I use a probiotic & give the bc time to adjust. I got my insertion in August & started using a probiotic in September or October. I absolutely love this bc because I haven't had extreme side effects like when I was using other BCs (I've experienced intense mood swings & PMS symptoms, contraction-like cramps, spotting for months at a time, bad acne, depression etc.). I just wish this weird odor would go away. It seems more prominent when I am on my menstruatal. I've also experienced a cloudy, extremely watery discharge (I literally had wet spots in my jeans smh) to the point where I have to wear liners every day (the odor from the liner was atrocious!) However, I have heard women using the nuva ring also experienced a foul odor . So I'm thinking it has something to do with a plastic foreign object being in the vagina. I hope this helps someone out there . I personally recommend using 16-20 billion strain probiotic (their rather expensive, but it really helps with the odor) before deciding to remove the IUD.

Is the procedure to remove it the same as then it was implanted? I've considered taking mine out but I had a semi-painful procedure. How did it go for you ?

I had my Skyla inserted on May 26. It's June 8 and I am ready to have it removed. I too am experiencing that foil smell. I shower constantly and you can't even tell. I take pribiotics folic acid and vitamin E nothing is helping so far. I was in the process of getting over BV when I got it put in but I do not believe that is the problem as all other symptoms of it are gone and the smell is way different and is accompanied by a brown discharge. I have been wearing liners since I had it put in and I can smell myself they my clothes if I bend down or sit the wrong for way and it's embarrassing. Doctors appointment in two weeks so I'll see...

I thought I was the only one! I got mine inserted in July (on my boyfriends birthday - ha, happy birthday to you, no kids for 3 years) and it started about the middle of September. Has it gotten better for anyone? I really don't want to get it removed as I love not having to remember to take birth control but this odor is so embarrassing.

I got Skyla inserted May2015 and it is now March2016. An hour after insertion I got really sick, a fever, couldn't eat, and extreme cramps. Only lasted for a day and dr said it was normal. I don't really experience any cramping until I go off my period which is odd. But my periods last for 15 days straight and I'm off for only 11. The WORST! I've had odor problems that were horrible and made me extremely uncomfortable and the dr gave me pills and it went away but when I went off my period it came right back. So I'm planning on taking it out this month because of the issues. Wanted to avoid taking pills but it seems I'm going to have to try it out. I've tried the patch, shot, and iud. Nothing is working for me. I'll never try the iud again if it will continue to make me smell like this. That's a complete deal breaker.
