I've been dealing with this for the past six hours... First time dealing with it, too. Hasn't been fun in the slightest - can't eat, can't drink, can't swallow (even saliva), can't sleep. I can't believe it's lasted so long, and I'm starting to worry about whether I should go to the hospital. This is definitely NOT acid reflux, so to all you well-meaning people trying to offer generalized advice - this is something a little more serious. I've dealt with acid reflux, and acid reflux this is not.

Happens to me too often. I find that a warm coke will get it down. Not sure why it works but it does. This doesn't happen unless I eat fast. I have to chew chew and chew.

My mom had all these same symptoms and she was diagnosed with Schotskys syndrome. I'm not sure how it's spelled.

I don't have this problem all the time, but several times during the month when I eat, the food seems to be lodged at the bottom of my throat. It's very painful at times. After I chew my good and swallow, food gets lodged and then automatically I throw up. I continue to throw up several times but sometimes the good doesn't come up. It's like a foamy fluid. I try to drink it eat bread to wash it down, but it still won't move. It stays lodged in throat. After taking one or two bites of good, I'm done. I can't eat another bite because if the pain it causes in throat and chest. I do have acid reflux/ heartburn quite often, but lately eating has caused a problem... Even to the point of choking on some of my food

This is a very scary moment! I understand that not eating is gonna scare you down! See your doctor or even see the hospital! Always drink and chew your food until its total soag and never eat dry foods and little bites... Hope this helps!

Mine is bread, meat, pasta, anything that is thick..and it already happened to me this morning with chicken and pasta. I have to drink water and it's very uncomfortable. I want to know what this is and if there is something I can do about it.

If you get a feeling like youare being jabbed in the throat every now and then when this happens, then it means you need to slow down and completely chew your food. I used to have a very simmilar problem, and it turns out that when I am stressed I dont chew my food nearly enough, so I end up swallowing a chunk of something.

I have the same issue and the best way to dislodge the food when is it stuck in your esophagus is to drink a newly opened Diet Coke. Chug a gulp and close your upper throat, the pressure from the drink will push the food down.
I had an upper endoscopy and found no issues the problem seems to happen when eating Chicken when cooked or preserved a certain way.

Just had the same thing happen. I was eating a hot dog and when I swallowed what I thought was a small piece it felt as if it got stuck. I felt a burning after swallowing. I immediately drank some liquid thinking this would dislodge it. Nope the liquid came
up and all of sudden I started vomiting (I guess this was my bodies way of dislodging it). I have never had this happen but have had a few times that stuff felt like it was stuck. Scary to say the least!

Get a plastic bag, cause yourself to wretch and vomit. Sometimes it takes a while to relieve the symptom. Also, eat slowly, watch the texture of the foods you eAt. Don't bother trying to get it down with liquids, it won't help. (Just diagnosed with stomach cancer and I have this problem.
