Since the birth of my son two years ago, I have had very few digestive problems which was a shock since prior to childbirth I was chronically constipated. I had major trouble with hemmorhoids while pregnant and since then, minor discomfort while starting a bowel movement, fine once it starts exiting :-) Isn't it fun to talk about bowel movements? Anyway...
The past few months I noticed sometimes my abdomen had a bump in it, rather large like a softball that when I pressed it, it would sink back somewhere into my abdomen. No pain, nothing. After pregnancy and a fallen bladder, nothing shocks me so i assumed all was normal (that and since I sufffered sever post-partum depression my doctor poo-poos anything I suggest is malfunctioning so i just don't bother).
Well, 5 days ago I woke up with an aching pain in my left abdomen, kind of under my left rib but it also feels like gas (which I can pass, with some difficulty) but I was also nauseous, and my shoulder joints ached. Kind of like flu without any other flu symptoms. It absolutely hurt to cough or laugh, my whole muscles in the abdomen seemed pulled. After three days my muscles are fine but the fullness under the left rib remains. Gaslike feeling starts immediately after eating and continues for hours.
Now, the lump comes and goes and kind of feels like an organ floating all over the place within a set path but it *feels* like between softball and harball sized. I have a strong abdominal pulse on the left side where the discomfort lies.
What could this all mean? Is it possibly a build up in my intestines/colon of fecal matter? This happened a day after I caught my son falling off a chair where I had to jumpin and lean to the left and it did hurt and pull near my left side/ribs...
Hernia? I am so confused. I made an appointment to be checked out by my doctor (aka be told I am simply worrying over nothing) but this is not normal for me (aside from constipation etc) so ?? I just want to know what to go into the appointment knowing...the more info I have the more I will be able to convince her I am not a lunatic and just because I had post-partum depression doesn't mean EVERYTHHING is in my head. Sheesh Get over it already it was two years ago ;-) lol
Thanks in advance for any ideas/advice.
I think I have always had a strong abdominal pulse though, it was only being on the left side that raised suspicion this time, however, I know for a fact I had felt it there many times before.

That there is a burning, sort of cold searing feeling from it and producing a long series of "bubbles" - even something as simple as one cracker is causing bellyfulls of gas. Yogourt has always calmed my stomach before and now its like I ate a gallon when I eat 1/4 cup - burning, lumpy feeling and gassy.
Any ideas?

I am having similar problems as you have described. Although I dont have a similar history. I am a 21 year old female and about 2 months ago I started getting gas on a daily basis as well as stomach distention. I dont ever have any pain. After a while I also discovered that my abdomen and chest had a constant visible pulse. Having such atypical symptoms is frustrating because all i keep finding online leads me to an abdominal aortic aneurysm and I doubt that is my problem (being so young and not overweight) although you never know. I am having an upper GI series and gallbladder scan done this week. Just thought I would give u some comfort by letting you know that you arent the only with these weird problems. Have you heard anything else about your condition from the doctor? Goodluck

I was told that I was low on potassium, I have a spasm in my rib cage that comes and goes, sometimes everyday spontaneously, sometimes not for 3 days. unpredictable! 36yrs old.
It feels like a thumb is pushing out through my ribs right below my heart, and I feel like gas/air movement. It does not hurt or is painful, but it is strange, and Im not sure what to think. It feels like maybe blood is clotted or arterys clogged. I have high cholesterol, so im not sure if thats the cause.
Any help would be appreciated.

hey i am 21 and i too have this lump you speak about its actually a sausage shaped lump in my case starts at the bottom of my stomach and if i sticke my tummy in it rises up and then gets lost somewhere but when i exhale it falls back down. i have had this persistant bump ill call it, for about 9 months now and it is driving me crazy i used to have a very flat stomach now its bloated all the time and this lump they diagnosed me with ibs and told me it was poop. mind u it does get smaller sometimes after a bowel movement so it probably is but it never goes away maybe because i never finish . just felt like commentinga nd saying you are not alone i have the same thing u described. everyone thinks i am crazy and i have nothing. i cants get a proper diagnosis. so yea i am starting to take the peppermint capsules now that was mentioned in the previous post. its good for intestinal spasms. also fiber water. no exercise yet i am really lazy, but yea the bump is there everyday since i discovered it in late february. good luck hope we can figure this out and hopefully fix our problem even if my ibs never goes away. i don't experience pain just lower tummy is bloated amd that lump. wish you the best..

Hi,
I was reading your old post and it's just like me!
Did you ever get a diagnosis? Did your symptoms go away? I've been about 2 weeks with the same symptoms and have been diagnosed with gastritis, but not feeling better after taking prevacid. Went for an abdominal ultrasound and am now waiting for results. I look like I'm 3 months pregnat (which I'm not!) because of the bloating.
Please post if you are better...I'd love to know if this will go away!

i was constipated for a couple of days [horrible] and experienced the same aching sensation as you described. it's most likely that you are constipated. i also lost some weight in the two days and it felt like i was constantly holding my breath, which felt really weird; did this happen to you? i found that sitting still for some time and getting distracted, such as in a movie or a book, made the pain disappear, but reappear some time after i started thinking about it, which suggests that it's partly psychological.
i hope that you got some help for it and that it only turned out to be something simple =]

I have exactly what you described and googled it, and it brought me here. Did you ever get a diagnoses? The aneurysm thing has me concerned!
I had an ultrasound done two times, since the end of August, and they think I have endometriosis because of my other pain.
But this movable mass is so annoying! And it has a pulse too.

Hi, I had the same problems you guys are discribing, sort of like a tennis ball full of gas under the lower ribs trying to pop out, very annoying... I had an ultra sound and they found nothing...but in the last 3 weeks i have become vegetarian and cut out most dairy products and started to exercise more and it seems to be allmost gone, pretty sure after a few months of this its gonna be gone, I have read that meat acctually rots in our stomaches and gets stuck in our intestins sometimes, and can create gases untill it gets pushed out, can also cause permenant damage to parts and areas, Dairy is also pretty bad, for example milk can curdle within our stomaches and nice chunks of rotten curdled milk can cling to walls of your intestinal tracks and so on....in other words from what ive been told it is a build up of bad bacteria within the intestinal track
Pretty much all carnivores have an intestinal track twice there body length, which enables them to pass meat through more quickly than us avoiding bad build ups of bacteria and passing meat through before it rots and decays, our intestinal track is 7 times our body length (same as a herbavors), which means meats and dairy will sit in us much longer causing bad bacteria build ups leading to disease, bad gas and all sorts of sh#t you dont want... vegetables, fruits and plant foods need longer to digest for our body's to strip them of there nutrients and vitamins, and they dont rot.T hey pass very easily which is one of the things I have noticed recently ;-) Humans have to cook there meat because our livers cant process blood properly and it damages us, which sux because once we cook our meat its strips it of all vitamins and nutrients, what we are left with is a big piece of nothing...
Anyway enough of that.. you get the point, I'll bet your sitting there thinking, shut up id**t what do you know...your no doctor, but i know ive tried it and its working, i feel stronger, I have 5 times the endurance as i did before, my skin is looks more healthy and the tennis ball has allmost gone! try giveing up dairy and meat for a couple of months and eat well and healthy, exercise more and drink a sh#t load of water, over 3 litres a day. Also try some stuff called "inerhealth plus" you can get it at your local chemist, it kills bad bacteria and stuff.
Also if your interested in more random facts check this site out, http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/natural.html
After a few months of this I swear you wont be sorry.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck!

I had an injury in Feb and actually hit my left side, but because of other injuries from my fall it sort of was on the back burner. It was a work injury and my knee and back were my main concerns, and they never x-rayed my ribs After a couple of months I noticed when I would eat my upper left rib actually felt like it had kind of unfolded at the top. I brought this to my docs attention, he said maybe I was born that way. (and apparently yesterday) The odd thing is that it seems to go back, like the ribs are actually bending back and forth. I also get the pulsating, some movement, and a bulge. At the end of june I started getting nauseas daily and thought I had a stomache virus. After 3 weeks of waking up at 2 am with extreme abdominal cramps I decided to go to the doctor, because like everyone else i didn't want to be looked at again like a drug seeking hypocondriac. They're now testing my gallbladder. For the past few weeks I have been having all the symtoms of a gallbladder attack, I only know this because I looked it up, but I've been wondering if all of this couldn't have been brought on by the fall. I also don't know if the left side pain has anything to do with the gallbladder thing. Just curious if you guys found out anything about your alien gas bubble? XD I've noticed mine feels better with a little pressure on it. I have to sleep face down slightly on my left side with my right knee bent out to the side because of this stupid injury. I've also been alternating diarria and constipation. 3 days plugged up, and a day totally uncorked. Nasty, sorry. I also have had a sweet taste in my mouth daily for about a month, and lots of burping. I've also had body odor (armpits) lately, I've switched deodarants, and shower daily, and also use baby powder, because its constant. I'm 37, no kids, I rarely eat red meat, I exercise. I've lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks because of this latest thing, and had lost about 10 prior to that with the left rib issue. I'm very muscular, and not fat (maybe fluffy) juniors size 13. So the weight I have lost has been mostly muscle. Today I started getting lots of joint pain, and I'm waiting for the diahrea to kick in because I'm hungry as hell, but can't eat because I haven't been able to "go" for the past couple of days. I go to my doctor first thing tomorrow, but like I said, curious to see if you guys ever found anything out. Thanks for "listening"

Well I know this is an old post but I have been having a similiar problem, although my history is alot different. Im a boy, 6'2, 155 pounds, and I am 16. I have had this baseball sized lump as you described, floating around in my upper right abdomen. It moves around a little but stays in the same general area. I can push it up into my ribcage, and also if i bend forward and roll my stomach I can feel it in my side/right flank, kind of rolling over something. I keep jumping to conclusions and thinking it is a kidney tumor or something, but i don't know yet. I used to get constipated alot when I was younger, and still do sometimes. I sit on the computer alot, sometimes all day. I lift weights a few times a week. When I first noticed this lump it was when I was having a gassy/bloated stomach feeling, and I rolled my stomach and noticed it move over something, so I stood up and there it was. I cannot see it through my skin, but it feels big. It wasn't painful when I first noticed it so I ignored it for a while but now about a month later, after working out one day It started to hurt and I got worried. since then It hasn't been really painful except for a few quick jabbing pains, but I always feel like there is something there, I notice it constantly. It is easier to feel when I am standing up, and kind of dissapears when i sit or lay down but I can find it if I search. I am really worried this is a kidney tumor, but I am hoping it is just a hernia or constipation. Please Help i am pretty worried that this is serious, plus I had some Anxiety about a year ago that has for the most part gone away, but it was the type where my Hypochondria was really elevated than what It normally is, so my parents are saying that it is all in my head and that they won't bring my to the doctor. I don't want to say anything to them but im kind of pissed they won't just go to check it out and rule out any serious problem.
