I am a 53 year old woman who is an advid equestrian. I have had this type of rash twice this year after horseback riding in a hot humid day. It happened once last year at the end of the summer after a very long trail ride. I chalked it up to socks being too tight. After it happened the first time this year I was sure to wear longer looser socks the next time I went riding. However, it happened again so it isn't the thighs socks causing it. After doing some research I came across mention of golfers vasculitis and this site. What a relief! Luckily mine does not hurt or itch. I will definitely talk to my doctor about this to be certain that there is nothing more sinister going on.

I'm 26 and was just told I have golfers vasculitis. I'm pretty healthy I think, I'm active, asset a healthy weight. I was working in the heart, which I didn't think it was that hot out and when I went to take a shower I noticed this awful rash. It doesn't hurt or itch at all. Its just awful to look at. Has anyone else had this at a young age? My doctor said it's not common in younger people unless there's something else going on? I had to go for a ton of blood work and am waiting for the results...

Its good that you're doing tests....I was diagnosed at 27 with Sjogren's Syndrome (auto immune issue), but I do believe I had it at that young of an age. Sun and heat would trigger my rashes, although tolerable, just looked "bad".
I myself, am health weight and active and Im STILL trying to get to the root of this vasculitis!
Keep doing the tests....

I also experienced this about 2 weeks ago. Looks so scary. My problem is that for the last two weeks I can't get the swelling of my feet and lower legs to go down. I live in Florida so the heat and humidity are always s problem in the summer. Sitting at a desk job all day is not helping either may trynoverbyhr counter water type pill.

I just went back to work after 16 years and the office lifestyle is making my vasculitis so much worse! The swelling and rash is so bad, not sure if it's the "sitting and stress" or what. I was always active, so this is frustrating. I'm currently trying the Horse chestnut extract pills and cream...the cream provides some relief....giving it some more time.
Do I need a rheumo? Dermo? Or Internist? of alternative Dr? I keep going round and round on WHOM actually is the best to have help with Golfers vasculitits.
I've tried plaquenil and steroid creams and prednisone, all to which have not helped at all.
Any advice/direction/excperience would be welcome...

Oh my goodness! Here I was thinking I was going mad but no it appears I too have GV. No formal diagnosis, just Dr Google to rely on at this stage. I have been suffering with this condition since going to Rome 6 years ago and my legs were a terrible mess. The weather was hot, we walked a lot and stood a lot. I've since noticed it every summer to varying degrees. We are avid walkers and I know after a summer hike that I'm going to suffer. I've not sought help in the past as it's usually resolved itself before I get to the Dr's. However I'm currently suffering from the worst but I've ever had. We walked yesterday 10 miles in the Lake District. Wasn't particularly warm. When in the pub later in the evening I felt my feet, ankles and calves begin to itch and swell. Up popped the rash from my toes to my knees. As a female who likes to wear dresses this is a bit distressing. The swelling has abated a little today but the rash is terrible and very itchy. If this can happen to me in the UK with our inclement weather, I truly comiserate with those who suffer in hotter climes. I've photographed my legs to show the GP. I'll keep you all posted he she comes up when any solutions.

Unfortunately I have changed my whole wardrobe around GV...I wear maxi skirts daily. I'm still investigating what actually triggers it for me....definitely sitting long hours, whether be work or on flights and sun/heat. The horse chestnut extract cream helps better than anything I've tried. I'm going to retry the teaspoon of baking soda in warm water to drink again, there seemed to be some benefit, especially since my body appears to be on the acidic end (have had cancer before) as opposed to an alkaline state.
Keep us updated on anyone's findings. Currently I'm trying to get in with a recommended rheumo and I also have an appt. with a highly rated alternative doctor (David brownstein) at the end of August.
I will keep you all updated on my findings....I am so OVER this unpredictability of the nastiness on my legs....not to mention the pain of the swelling...what I call "elephantitus" of my feet, ankles and calves.

Hi guys, I'm very happy to have found this discussion, and would like to comment on a couple of items. First of all, I had the exact rash (more like broken blood vessels under the skin) appear last week after a long walk in the hot and humid Florida weather. I attributed it to walking through a field of knee-high weeds, and it mostly appeared on the back of one leg, extending from ankle to mid-calf. It was mildly swollen and itchy, but highly disturbing and unexpected I have always been a walker and hiker, and never heard of this before having it happen to me and then researching on the internet. I'm 57, a teacher who is on her feet all day, and my mother had autoimmune diseases. The only difference lately has been that I went on several 5 to 9 mile walks in mid morning, and sure enough, a few days after my first outbreak, I got the rash again, only slightly worse this time. It looks like a random birthmark in that it is reddish-purple and inflamed. I read somewhere else that it can be caused by the heat from the pavement or walking surface, but after reading all the comments on this discussion page, it may be that there are different triggers and symptoms for each individual. I think that elevation and cooling the legs may give relief, as some guests have mentioned, and I will certainly look into the baking soda/horse chestnut treatments if this keeps up! It does go away about the same amount of time that petechiae take to disappear. I hope that others mention more case histories or treatments in this discussion. I'm going to my doctor soon, and will see what she says.

I think I'm writing so much, because I've been battling mine lately! Thus far, Horse chestnut cream provides relief...although not sure the pills were doing anything. Oddly enough, 1 tsp of baking soda w warm water in the am & pm, appears to be a miracle cure for me~My legs look amazing! (Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself) When I do have a flare up, it's swelling(feet, ankles, calves and sometimes knees) and nasty rashes(which the rashes vary). Maybe my body is "acidic", hence me having had cancer before and the baking soda brings my body into a more alkaline state. I think there is some tie into "auto immune issues"...I'm not a Doctor, but by the process of elimination this is what I have found for myself.
I'm sharing, for I've been frustrated for years and this "GV", seems to be an anomaly in the medical world.
Keep on sharing, for THIS blog is where I found the baking soda remedy! Thank you!

Hi I've had this for a number of years and have only recently discovered what this rash is. I have found using ibuprofen gel on the area and wearing a light support tube over the rash helps. Also tried cream with horse chestnut base and baking soda as suggested and have seen an improvement over the last week. Cool compresses also help to reduce the redness.

You body strictly regulates your PH level. It stays between a very narrow range of 7.35 and 7.45 on a 0-14 scale. Drinking an alkaline solution can only change the PH of your stomach temporarily before your body corrects the acidity.

If you were successful in alkalizing your body to 7.8, your body stops functioning at the cellular level, and you become quite dead.

Encouraging others to employ treatments that you don't understand is high irresponsible.

But do you still get the rash after drinking the baking soda with warm water. Or is it all gone?
