I stumbled upon this by mistake as I just started taking naproxen sodium (Nsaid) before playing golf for my arthritis. The vasculitis symptoms are now gone or only minimal

I've been researching and using my body as a lab rat and I've hopefully found some promising treatments.

First, I'm curious how many of you that get golfers vasculitis also suffer from gout. My current theory is that uric acid is the stealthy culprit of both afflictions. It's a good explanation as to why baking soda and NSAID's have helped GV.

Tomorrow I'm back to standing/walking for 5+ hours coaching a football game in the heat and sun, I'm going to try Aleve(naproxen sodium), tart cherry juice(clears up gout attack in hours for me), and a tsp of baking soda before I leave.

My biggest concern is that last weeks GV hasn't fully healed, and if this doesn't work, it'll be ugly. Last week was ankle to mid calf of dark red, itching hot nastiness.

Thanks for all the tips. I'm going to try aleve now as well. Baking soda has worked the best for me. Although the topical chestnut horse extract cream helps relieve any topical issues.
I see an alternative doctor at the end of August, I will let you know my findings. Most western medicine doctors aren't that knowledgeable about GV.
I did have a strange occurrence though, I got bit by Mosquitos (in michigan) on my legs-which turned into HUGE welt like bites, which in turn triggered my GV rash. Obviously this is all auto immune related...was wondering if others with GV have a low tolerance for bug bites?

Results are in.. Last week I tried everything together in desperation and it was quite effective. I'll say it was a 60% reduction in the GV symptoms. One strange thing was that it only occurred in areas that were previously unaffected, meaning it climbed higher up the calf, as well as the outside of the leg, but the unhealed area from the previous week was spared.

This weekend it has healed almost completely, and I chanced narrowing down the treatments. I used aleve, and tart cherry juice. The result is almost no GV at all. There was the tell tale pink itchiness but instead of midgame it came the next morning and very little rash occurred at all. After 1 full day, it's completely healed.

To be fair, the temperature was not as warm this week, but still more than warm enough to expect a GV rash.

I'd like to know if tart cherry juice works for anyone else. It's also available in a capsule, which I'll be trying soon.

I hope this helps someone, good luck!

I get severe GV, but have a very high tolerance for bug bites and no allergies at all.

Another week of tart cherry juice and Aleve, and this time after 8 hours at work standing/walking on a very hot day, and then another 4 hours coaching in hot humid conditions, I have no GV, no pink skin, no itch, I have two normal inner calves for first Saturday night all summer.

I have had this condition for years. No doctor could tell me what it was or how to treat it. My wife suggested I wear a pair of soccer socks under long pants next time I play golf. Normally I wear shorts. I played 18 holes in 95 degree heat and , NO RASH. I played again yesterday, no rash. I was amazed. Just the extra compression on your legs with socks will cure your rash. I guess I will need to buy a pair of nickers. Hope this helps you.

Thanks so much for sharing your results. I got GV after going on a Disney Cruise and then to Walt Disney World. They actually have name for GV called DisneyRash or EpcotRash since so many ppl end up getting their first episode at those properties. This almost makes me think it's a viral rash, but it can't be... I am trying the Tart Cherry capsules, Horse Chestnut, & Aleve this week. Do you think Gout caused the GV or GV caused the gout? I have never been diagnosed with gout, but lately have been suffering from pain in the big toe (which I read is a symptom of gout). Also, do you find that when you stand or walk most of the day vs sitting most of the day that your GV is worse? Thanks for sharing!!

I have tried the horse chestnut extract capsules and topical cream, plus the tart cherry juice.
For me though "the key" is drinking a teaspoon of baking soda a day...crazy but true. I stopped the baking soda cocktail and the rash flared up again...swelling of the feet and ankles and the nasty rash resumed.
I am not a DR, but I am assuming that most of us that have GV have some sort of an auto immune condition.
I also feel the horse chestnut cream does help the rash heal and fade quicker, capsules not so much.

I have found that if I put very heavy SPF 50 on my ankles and calves before exercising outdoors in summer it deters the rash somewhat.....yesterday I did not do that which resulted in the nasty stuff coming on. I sometimes break open a liquid Benedryl capsule and put some of the liquid directly on rash....sometime hastens disappearance.

I'll try to make this brief.
I have leukocytoclastic vasculitis aka GV.
Past year and a half the rash has been horrible.
I Was preparing to go to Mayo this summer for testing.
I have autoimmune issues, as well as had breast cancer 8 years ago. (I'm 49) otherwise physically fit and lean.
Ladies, I ended up having a HUGE benign ovarian tumor pop up within 2 weeks, ended up having full hysterectomy...all is well, but amazingly the vasculitis has pretty much cleared up completely!!! I was shocked...GYN oncologist comment that "tumors" can produce odd side effects....one being "rashes". (Or mental changes, or thyroid changes..etc)
Not sure if there is a link with "vasculitis" in the legs and "tumors"...ovarian, prostate, uterine, kidney, colon, rectal, but worth checking in to. Clearly, removing the uterus and tumor has made a difference in my situation.
Be your own health advocate and don't just accept the rash, your whole system is linked and tied together...whether it's diet, exercise, genetics, disease or tumors.
Note that I'm not a Doctor, but a professional patient who cares and shares her findings.
Relevant or not? It's something to keep in mind...

Hi. I forgot what I did last Summer and got a horrible rash this Summer. My husband reminded me I did something different last year that helped me I finally remembered....Desitin Ointment.Makes sense....rash ointment and kind of a barrier cream. It does put a thin layer between me and the grass....and I highly suspect it is the treatment of the grass, since my rashes are seasonal, not every day and usually when heat flares. I am a letter carrier so there is all kinds of grass I walk over. I really think my body just cannot tolerate all the toxic chemicals after all these 29 years of carrying. I have suffered with this for 10 years at least....my legs itch today but usually don't. That is why I give creedence to your use of SPF...it is a barrier like my rash ointment. I also want to point out that I had drank some vinegary drink today called Kombucha. I started to itch shortly after and I am off today...it really bothered my rash. Maybe during Summer, laying off venegar would help.I do not believe in the alkaline theory....we need to be aciddic...it is life giving but maybe some extra acid we take in could be avoided.

I've been walking Golf courses for 25 years never experienced Golfers Vasculitis funny enough I'm from Australia never heard of it, but certainly have in the past month not itchy but raw and sore for first 24 hours
What your saying about acid/alkaline levels in our body makes sense I'm definitely getting bicarbonate and trying it
Thank you
Jenny
