I'm a 42 year old and I am suffering from gout. This last bout made me change my diet, well I found out about the diet-gout connection. My doctor neglected to tell me that the beer, seafood and meat diet I was formerly on was counter-productive to gout management. I guess he liked the repeat business. The thing that worries me can a severe gout attack in the little finger cause enough tissue damage to necessitate the removal of the discolored tissue? I am afraid to tell my doctor. Thanks

I am sorry I can’t tell you that. I am gout sufferer too. The last four years of allopurinol 300mg/day have pretty much taken care of the tophi. My rheumatologist says I have bone loss in some joints, but minor. He calls them "rat bites”. I am worried about another thin that gout will case an abscess. I think I’ll have to have tissue surgically removed to "save" the finger.
