Hammer Toe Pin Removal

Matt, My husband just had 4 pins removed from the toes of right foot. He was VERY concerned about pain. He didn't even change expression when the doctor removed them. Said one of them gave a little "twinge" when doctor turned it prior to removal. You will do fine. I can only imagine the removal of so many staples & stiches being very uncomfortable. Hang in there!

I am 4 weeks post bunionectomy surgery. I had a pin placed in my third toe and just had it removed a few days ago. I also was extremely anxious about the pain but to my surprise it did not hurt at all. However 3 days after having the pin removed my toe is still very tender which is making it very hard to walk.

I had a pin inserted in my 2nd toe almost 3-weeks ago,I have 3 more weeks before it suppose to be removed,this morning however, I had a little accident,My little 11mo old grandson sat on my foot & the pin hooked in his pants & ripped it all the way out of my toe !! grrrr Panic,what to do,its a weekend & i am unable to call surgeon to ask what to do , So I got some peroxide ,Q-tips to disinfect the Pin & My toe ,it was bleeding so had to do something, I Cringe now as i am telling you all about this, I had to insert that pin back into my toe, a little at a time, that thing is about 2 1/2 " ,eeek
I don't recall much pain when it was ripped out OR when I pushed it back in there, what I remember is Panic & shock,so maybe thats why I don't remember much pain>>>>>Thank-goodness,lol I am rather worried now,I am gonna be quite anxious for the next couple days about infection>>>Fingers crossed here !! :(

My surgery was sept. 12. My pins are to come out in 4 weeks. I had a pre scheduled trip to mexico planned. Now, should I remove the pins 4 days too early and travel without the pins? Or remove them 7 days late and travel with the pins.? Is there any kind of a somewhat "stylish" shoe out there I could wear while on hoiday? Nothing fits at this point....

HI Trixie, did your DR tell you the Pin would be removed in 4 OR 6 weeks? If its 6-weeks,then i'm sure that it would be ok to remove it 4-days early>>I did & my toe is great ! :) BUt if you decide that you are gonna keep it in there ,then there is a Sandal you can Purchase at most Drugstores,they are Black & come in sizes SML ,with 2-Velcro Straps for adjustment,VERY comfortable,not bad-looking for around 22 bucks >> hope this helps>>enjoy your Vacation :)

I have had a pin in for 4 weeks. I get it taken out soon. If I were you I would talk to your Dr. about getting the pin out before your vacation. You will be a LOT more comfortable, you will be able to get your foot wet after a few days, and you won't have to worry about getting sand in it, etc...

I had surgery 2 weeks ago,my stitches came out monday. My pins come out in 2 weeks,but look like one of my pins sticking way out

yes its bloody painfull i had mine removed 2 days ago from my toe but as this was my 3rd op i ask for a local anaesthetic to be honest the injection was more painfull than the pin this time! ,if u have a skilled doctor it shudnt b a problem, if u havnt it can live with u forever like myself, good luck and deep breaths x

I feel your pain I had surgery on October 2010, just went in because I
wanted to have to corns removed from my right 4th and 5th toes. Right away he decides hammertoe surgery which I did not have no hammertoes. Now I am still in pain he cut the bone without asking when I use to love the length of my toes. Now I have trouble sleeping and feel very depressed. I trust the podiatrist to had made the right decision (BUT HE DID NOT)!! Beware

i had 3 hammer toes pinned two weeks ago and the boot they put me in did not have any protection over the pins...so first thing that happened was that the pin got caught in the seam of the front of the boot...i am 64 and cannot bend well so if my husband had not been home i would have been stuck and not able to move.....then today i go to the dentist with the giant boot on to protect my foot and the front door caught on the pin and pulled it completely out....i am bleeding at the dentist and my foot is throbing....they get me the number of my docoter 90 milles away and he is not available.....so am told to go home and put a bandage on it...and wait for the doctor to call me.....this is riduculous.......he even told me they used to use a boot that curved over the toes to protect the pins from all this happening....i am so mad.....this is not good patient care.....

Zoemoult thank you for your positive post - I have to have a pin removed tomorrow and am dreading it. I found one person who had a nightmare of an experience - going to believe mine will go as seamlessly as yours!

Hi I know iys was a while ago when you had your op but I had mine three weeks ago ago one of the pins is sticking out more than it was a week ago. What happened to yours was it ok?

Hello, I had bunion removal and two hammer toes corrected almost 5 weeks ago. My pins were removed 4 days ago. It did not hurt having them removed. I could feel the pressure but no pain. About 20 minutes after the removal my feet began to be painful. It is not 4 days after the removal and I am back on pain meds. I am not sure if this is common or if I should be concerned. The surgery was not bad at all. I did have the knee block which kept my leg from knee to foot numb for close to 3 days. I was no longer on pain meds prior to having the pins removed. It is normal? Should I be concerned?
