I had surgery September 28th 2017 and still have the pins in all 4 toes. They put a plate with 1 pressure screw and 5 screws in my big toe that will be there until I die. I will not get the pins out before November 15th. I think it all depends on your issues. I will be having my right foot done in February of 2018.

I totally agree.. And my experience wasn’t a quick tug,, It was more like a slow twisting with their hand, and then the tug at the end... I felt that sh*t in my ankle... I wore my pin for 6 weeks by the way.. No idea why because today over a year later almost two had April came around again, I’m looking a a pin right now!!!! In the same toe because once in there to place another screw....... The bone had never fused back together

Hope you’re not a patient of Dr. Monday
Lawanda Monday..Wore a pin for 6 weeks.. Same exact procedure... Went in for an ingrown toe nail!!!!
Surgery for a tailors bunion (10/2417) that was a result of the first procedure almost two years ago...
Once inside he found that the bone never fused back together from the pin

I have pins in three of my toes at the moment, they’re due to come out next week, they’ve been in six weeks. I had my other foot done last year and to be honest, when the pins came out I didn’t feel a thing, there aren’t any nerves in the bone, you feel the tugging but it doesn’t really hurt.

Thanks for sharing this information, while I am not the person who asked the question, I had surgery on both of my feet and have 2 pins in each foot and they will be removing them this week and I too am a little nervous. I would like to ask if after the pins were removed did you go back to wearing a comfortable normal shoe and were you able to drive or did you have to wait?

In Jan of this yr I had hammer toe surgery done on both feet on my 2nd & 3rd toes. The pins were in for 6wks. I did not feel a thing when they were taken out. Your toes will be a little tender for a few days, but that is all.

I had my pins removed today. Big toe and 4th toe. Very painful for me. I almost fainted. Had leftover pain pill from right after surgery. Wish I had taken it first. BUT, everyone is different. If the stitches removal didn’t bother you, which it did me, then your pain threshold may be higher than mine.

I had my left toe joint replaced and the hammer toe next to it fixed at the same time. I haven’t been able to walk for a month. I’m home bound and bed bound cause I can’t do anything unless it’s something I can divsitting. I have a small scooter I can go to the bathroom fortunately so that’s worked well.
I can my pin out next week. (Total 5 weeks)
The stitches getting removed hurt horribly and I too am scared to get the pin out. I was told swelling can be several months so not sure what shoes I will be able to wear.
I have a great husband who works hard all day. He makes breakfast for me, leaves a nice sandwich in the fridge for me, comes home and cooks dinner for us. He’s also kept up on laundry, vacuuming, etc., so I’ve been very lucky. Don’t know how I would’ve got through it without him.

I am 44 years old and just had my pins removed from 3 toes. It was absolutely excruciating. He was wrenching on them to get them out. He said in his 20 years of practice, he never had that happen. I was sobbing. I have a good pair tolerance but that was unreal. I say this not to scare anyone but to tell you that you might have pain when no one else does. I know I did. It’s real. It’s possible but may be unlikely. It doesn’t feel good to tell people you have pain and they say you don’t because you shouldn’t.
