DId you happen to notice when this appeared? I am trying to figure out what would have caused it and it's sort of odd that you didn't notice the change in color. It could have been that way for years, strangely enough> Can you let me know?

I also have a brown discoloration between my fingers. I've had it twice, with no pain or irritation, just the color. I am not a heavy smoker by any means and am only 23, but I did have a cigarette last night and then I woke up this morning and there it was; but the discoloration is more at the bottom of my fingers where they join the hand and not near the top where I would've held the cigarette. I don't drink any type of tea or tan and I didn't have any pop yesterday. What is this?!

Interesting. Is the skin still the same or is it a different texture? I'd hazard a guess that it's a callous or something lik ethat but I'm not sure. Does that sound accurate?

Yes, the skin is still the same texture, only the color is different. And I've quit smoking alltogether (it's been over two weeks), so that cannot be it. I drank a lot of water yesterday, too. I am just baffled by this, oh yeah, and it's here again this morning. Interestingly, on my other (right) hand, I have some kind of itchy blister in between two of my fingers, like if one would get poison ivy or itch weed, and I think I'm getting one on the left hand too, although not where the discoloration is. It's just kind of frightening to wake up one morning and have your fingers turned brown, yet it goes away after a few days, but also comes back periodically.

New here on steadyhealth.com.

I woke up this morning to a rusty colored splotch just under my thumb on my right hand. There's also a streak of the same color across the base of my ring finger where I had slight blister from lifting weights.. I tried to wash it off thinking it was ink or some kind of food residue (I didn't think I was THAT sloppy an eater!) but it wouldn't come off. Everyone here described my exact problem, and this is the first time i'm experiencing it. Still no diagnosis yet?

I had the same problem so i looked it up and the only medical cause for the discoloration would have something to do with an abnormality in your liver or platelets. However that is a rare symptom, but if it is a common reoccurrence ask your doctor.

I am a doctor. The discoloration is likely a byproduct of your liver processing certain substances that it has difficulty processing (for example, you may not have an enzyme needed,or not enough of a certain enzyme to either process a specific substance or a quantity of that substance). Common culprits are those things hard to metabolize: alcohol, nutrasweet, certain drugs (prescription and otherwise). Look over your intake and see if you can determine what may be being processed inefficiently. Staying hydrated with faciliate metabolism, so drinking water will help; however, you should talk to your doctor for help in ruling out underying causes. For example, if you do not have enough of a certain enzyme which helps you process certain narcotics, you should know this if you ever need to have general anasthesia. This symptom is NOT related to STDs or sexual activity.

I have the same thing, but only between two fingers. It was unusually cold this morning and I ride my bike to work so maybe that's related? Very strange.

I noticed some rusty colored spots on my index finger last night, now I have some on my thumb this morning. Could it be a Vitamin B12 deficiency? I don't eat any poultry or pork...and hardly ever eat beef. I also don't drink milk. I have been drinking water like crazy since I noticed these spots...I guess we'll see.

I had the same thing happen.Woke up with my palm stained to what looks like iodine, henna or even self tanner as well as the cracks around my fingernails.I saw posted on another site that other people with this similar problem found the common denominator to be they either handled or ingested peppers.I did not ingest peppers that night but I handled them when preparing them for my husbands dinner.

Means you liver is over-taxed.

Eat a lot greens. Limit fat.
