I have been searching for an answer for myself as well. I have had two occurances in the last couple of months & it is on my left labia minora. It is very painful to touch, almost like the area has been cut or rubbed excessivly. I had to have excess skin removed from my labias last year & was concerned that it might be scar tissue from the surgery. I have also been concerned it might have something to do with my hormones due to be being 41 years old & starting to have premenopause symptoms. I am glad to hear too that I am not the only one who is at a loss for the problem or the cure!!!

I just recently got one of these AWFUL cysts on the outside of my labia minora, left side.
I'm really unsure of what has cause it, but I've been using hot compresses and witch hazel to help dry it out.
I've also found that applying Oragel topically to the cysts ONLY well help numb the pain a little, though not completely.
I was nervous to try this, but I have to wear pants to work, it it was almost impossible to function due to the pain.
Good luck, ladies.

thanks for the suggestions! I'm 18, never had sex though I do masturbate about every other day. My lumps is about a small pea on the edge of my labia. I'll try the peroxide and the warm compresses and baths; hofully it'll go away. (I thought about a needle too but there is no way I'm voluntarily putting a needle near my vagina eep)

I have the same problem too. Mine is the size of a tic tac but my doesn't hurt unless I try to pop it. Its too hard to pop so I just leave it alone. I didn't notice it until I contracted herpes from my ex husband 5 years ago. I really don't notice it because it doesn't cause any pain. I have yet to see a doctor for it either. I don't think its from herpes though...

I have several on one side only; they are very small, hardlike little bumps on the inside of the skin.  They do not have a head, pus, and are not red.  They almost look white and when I try to touch or break them up, they feel like a little hard pebble.  I had my gyno look at them a few years ago b/c it started with one then then numbers just keep growing....she said it was similar to a calcification build up and there was really nothing I could do.  They aren't really painful unless I try to squeeze or break them up.  But they are annoying.

I am married and they don't go away or increase with sexual activity; I was tested for STDs etc when I divorced, and they were present before/after that time period.  Negative for any of the above.

I still don't know what they are or why I get them.  I wish there was a prodcedure to have removed.

Hi

So glad to have found Im not alone with this problem  I first got one of these cysts a year and a half ago.  it suddenly appeared on my right labia, grew was swollen and red to the size of a smartie and became very painful like a piece of glass was there.  Saw a doctor and had two lots of antibiotics but had no effect apart from reducing the stinging.  finally after two weeks it came to a head popped and I could squeeze out the puss which was quite a relief! The lump shrank and was still there and It came back again in the same way a month later.  Again after a few days it burst and shrank again.  That was over a year ago but I now have two lumps that havent caused any discomfort and are normally the size of about 3mm and quite flat and hard.  my Doctor said that they are sort of aggravated glands and she would be reluctant to do any proceedure unless they cause discomfort.  Occasionally, like now they grow to 5-6mm I think its when im not feeling too healthy (post christmas!) but again they are not at all painful.  I have some fucidin H cream I put on for about a week and they normally shrink again.  If they do start causing pain I will definitely go back to my doctor, but at the moment Ill just live with my little lumps.  If I find out anything more I will let you all know.

Yes I have one also . Its been there for about 2 months. I know exactly what you are talking about. I have one that feels like a little bump no head nothing to pop. Just feel like a little ball inside the skin. Not too worried

I have the same exact thing, and everytime they show up, I apply a hot wash cloth for a few days every night after showering & in the morning before getting dressed for about 10-15 minutes, and they painlessly go away... They are swollen glands, so do NOT torture yourself by attempting to "pop" it...Furthermore, always make sure it is a clean wash cloth, and if you choose to use soap to wash, make sure that it is a "vagina-friendly" cleanser that doesn't throw off your ph. Hope this helps, Best of Luck ladies

Have you look into the possibility of a Bartholin cyst? Small, often pea sized, usually reiccur in the same area. I've had a half dozen in the last few years. Usually they just go away on their own, the last couple ... Lets just say they drained themselves.

If it is a Bartholin cyst, squeezing can be a very bad thing ... I only found out the actual name of them when squeezing attempts resulted in an abcess that needed to be surgically drained. I have never in my entire 35 years been in that much pain.

I too have been looking for this answer. I was told 1. it's not sexually related and 2. It is normal and "nothing" as long as like everything else there is no discharge and is not painful. I would just like to tell you also that 1. I am not sexually active 2. I am peri-menopausal 3. I had a child and a hysterectomy. Sexual activity and hormones have nothing to do with the development of these nodules. As a woman I urge all of you to have anything painful or p***y looked at. (As for you that was told it's an ovarian cyst that is something totally different and make sure you follow up or get a 2nd opinion if you were told that it is nothing). I found this info and thought you can relate to what fits.

An ingrown hair is going to be red and p***y and can be treated very easily (simply use an alcohol swab and wipe that immediate area removing any bacteria). It will hurt but it's temporary. Remember this is ONLY for the most painful ingrown hair.

Lumps and Bumps

The vulva is one of the lumpiest and bumpiest parts of the body, and these normal lumps and bumps tend to increase in both number and /or size with age.

Lots of cysts are caused by sweat glands which have been blocked: the sweat then can’t escape and a cyst forms. These tend to occur along lines of friction, especially where trousers rub. Don’t pick or squeeze these cysts: you might cause an abscess!

“Fordyce spots”

These are small white or yellow lumps, 1-3mm in diameter on the labia minora. They are painless. They are slightly enlarged sebaceous(oil) glands, completely harmless. They often become more easily seen at puberty and with pregnancy and hormone treatment. They can occur on the penis in men too, but are not transmitted from person to person. You can find them in the lining of your mouth. They are a normal variant, and it is not known why they are more prominent in some people than others.

Vestibular papillomatosis

This is a condition where the surface of the vestibule(entrance of the vagina) and inner labia minora becomes a bit thicker and folded, under hormone stimulation following puberty. This gives a very fine, frond-like, slightly warty appearance to the skin, so it can be mistaken for warts. It is common in pregnancy. This is normal for some people though and doesn’t need or respond to treatment.

Angiokeratomas

These are tiny clusters of dilated blood vessels with a scaly top, seen after puberty usually on the labia majora. They tend to become more numerous in older age. They are bright red initially but can become darker, almost black. Very occasionally they can bleed slightly if knocked. Other than that they don’t cause symptoms and are harmless. If they are causing problems they can easily be removed in the doctors office.

Hymenal remnants

It is common to have irregular protrusions around the area of the hymen, the outer ring of the vagina. Minor surgery can remove any lumps here that are annoying.

Seborrhoeic keratoses

These are harmless warty lesions found all over the skin in increasing numbers in people as they age (senile warts!) They are found on the labia majora in women from the thirties onwards. They are often dark in colour 2-5mm in diameter or larger. They can be solitary or multiple. They can cause alarm because of the colour, confused with melanomas. They are not anything to worry about with no potential to turn cancerous.

Pigmentation of the inner vulva: vulval melanosis

Colour changes such as brown flat patches are very common in the inner labia minora, especially in darker skinned women. In most cases the dark areas are completely harmless, but there are rare cases of melanoma of the vulva. It’s not easy to tell which dark spots could be precancerous, so it’s best to have them checked by a doctor. Sometimes it may be necessary to take a test from the skin or photograph the dark area of skin for follow up.

Cysts of the labia majora

‘Sebaceous’ or epidermoid cysts are fairly common on the labia majora in older women. They appear as raised white or yellow lumps, 2-5mm in diameter. Sometimes they get infected, and are sore and red. Usually they don’t need to be removed.

Cysts of the inner vulva

Mucous cysts can occur in the vestibule region too. They appear as a painless soft lump. They can be ignored or removed with minor surgery.

“Varicose veins” of the vulva

Varicose veins are very common, especially after childbirth. They can give the vulva a purple look, and may cause vulval aching, especially at the end of the day. The veins in the labia majora or minora can become enlarged and tortuous, sometimes due to pregnancy. They rarely cause problems with delivery of the baby and will often shrink back after delivery.

I've had 2 in my life. Incredibly painful and the first one required emergency gyno surgery (the 2nd one popped on its own but the Dr treated me with antibiotics). NEVER pop or attempt to pop them & seek immediate medical care.
