Hey girls, I'm having this same problem. I'm posting this as the cyst thing is present. I am 16, and a virgin, and I immediately starting to google stuff about this as soon as I felt it. I'm very worried and I don't know how to approach anybody with this. This is the very first time I've had this kind of thing in my genitals, but I have had similar things in my earlobe. It's in the left inner lip, which is the shorter one for me, and it's very small like a grain of large rice. It's dense, and can't be broken up like I've read with some of you girls, and feels like it's attached to the front part of the lip that faces left/outward. I'm fairly worried because both sides of my family has cancer, even though it's breast cancer, I still don't want to exclude anything yet. From what I've read, it seems very normal and can't really be pin-pointed to anything, and it goes away after some time. It's already decreasing in size. It doesn't hurt, but it has a tingly feeling. Any responses would be great, I don't want to confront my mom on it :(

I don't think you should be embarrassed to talk to your mom, I had one of those hard little white bumps recently and went to the doctor. She said it was a sebaceous cyst and suggested I take some hot baths to loosen the skin over it so it could drain. That was about two and a half weeks ago and today it is gone. It hurt for a few days before it disappeared. Before that it didn't hurt but had that weird tingly feeling you were talking about. You said it was shrinking, but if you are still worried about it go ahead and tell your mom. I felt way better when my doctor told me not to worry about it and it would go away. I feel even better now that it's gone. Get it checked if it scares you.

This reply isn't just to Bunni btw- I'm on my touch screen and haven't figured how to use it. Okay, so I'm a little worried. I have a marble shaped thing in my left inner lip. There's no bump or anything on the outer skin- it's inside my lip. I have mursa- I cought it from my deceased dad. But it's not anything like mursa, it's extremely different. It's extremely hard, not like a liquid or anything. I don't start my menstrual cycle for another week and a half. This is the first time I've ever had one like this. It honestly is scaring me. I tried popping it, and I also tried sticking a needle to it. Its too deep to actually puncture it. My pain leval at the moment is at a 3, but upon touching it I feel excruciating pain. I'm extremely worried, does anyone have an answer for me? My mother has a tendency to overreact, if I told her she'll probably have me quarenteened in a hospital for the rest of my life. I'm hoping I can get some answers here. Please help!

It might be a Bartholin Cyst which has to be drained surgically. If there is pain associated with it, you should have it examined by your doctor before the pain becomes a 10, no matter what it is.

I had the same thing in the same spot but I thought it was an ingrown hair as I have just gotten a Brazilian wax. I'm going to tell you what I did so if you have a weak stomach you may not want to read this.
It was extremely painful to touch so I put part of a washcloth in hot water and put it against it, re soaked in hot water, put it against it over and over probably about 6 times to get any swelling down/break down anything inside of it. I then started to try and pick at it a little to find the hair and noticed that there wasn't one to be found. The wash cloth had made it a little less hard-feeling, so i gave it a bit of a squeeze(ouch!) and I'll save the gory details but it popped and out came quite a bit of pus/blood and any time I i gave it any sort of pressure more and more came out, as well as a little, i guess hard piece of something that looked like blood and I was finally positive that this was not an ingrown hair. I of course immediately began to clean it as i squeezed here and there trying to empty the little pocket (after cleaning my hands and using peroxide soaked qtips for squeezing). Once the pocket was fully drained the swelling went down and the pain faded.
From other posts on here that I read, after of course, it was probably some sort of cyst :S I called my doctor and told her what had happened and after she scolded me for practically performing surgery on myself, she agreed that it was either that or an infected gland (like another post on here said). i cleaned the area thoroughly with peroxide, which surprisingly didn't hurt probably because I got all of the bacteria out, and my doctor prescribed me antibiotics just in case.
So yeah, I took care of it myself, but I don't suggest doing it the way I did (obviously) but it saved a trip to the doctor and i'm not in pain anymore at least, but I won't be doing it my way again. Go to a doctor or clinic and have it drained, it will hurt less in the long run.

Hey gals, me again! It finally went away, it took a while but it slowly shrunk day by day since I didn't mess with it. I feel a lot better now from all of you saying that nothing really happened, but I'll defiantly tell my mom next time! (:

They are cysts and will go away. I've had them for years (at various times). If they become extraordinarily painful, you are to use hot compresses and even witch hazel pads to help dry them out-- however, hot compresses are most recommended by my gyno since witch hazel can be a little harsh on such thin, tender tissue. DO NOT PIERCE/PUNCTURE THE CYST. While it IS very tempting to lance it for immediate relief, the risk of infection is very high due to all the types of bacteria that naturally occur in that area and, possibly, on the instrument you use, as well. Do not take a minor inconvenience and turn it into a real and serious threat to your health.
These do go away on their own eventually; hot compresses just bring relief and expedite the process. Good luck and live happy & healthy!:-|

i'm sorry this may post as a reply to your question but i couldn't figure out where to enter a new post. for that I apologize. I am fifty, have not been sexually active in 20+ years. I underwent a total hysterectomy when i was 28. I had two live births, no abortions, and had my OBGYN run a complete panel of STD, etc...as a precaution. All came back neg. Twice now when washing i have found a large jelly bean size lump on the skin right out side of the vagina...on the left side. It does not hurt to feel it between my fingers, feels hard, it does not hurt to apply hard pressure to it, and you can't really see it. i don't recall what happened to the previous one..i kinda of remember it. so when showering a few days later i decided to take measures into my own hands. i sat down on the shower chair, got the lump between my fingers and squeezed it really hard. Nothing came, however I felt the lump squish within itself. It feels now like what cottage cheese looks like. I forgot, i could lift it with my fingers, before i squished it, i thought i felt what maybe was a thin stem that went towards by body. I barely feel that now.

I'm very glad I've read this...however, I went from page two to eight & I'm not sure if what I have is what everyone else has and has already been discussed.... but maybe you all can share some light for me. I believe what I have is a cyst also...not sure though. I am sexually active & have been. I do get a monthly period..and it's regular. I do primarily wear pads & I wear cotton underwear. Now this issue I'm having just started for the first time about April 2011....and it resurfaced last February (one time) and then for the past 4 or 5 months, it has been happening always near the end of my menstrual cycle....oh, and it is on my right "lip" --right on the crest of the wave (if you can picture that).... it starts off with me getting this weird, chaffing sensation on my right thigh...then with in a day my opening & right labia starts to itch...then these hard/red bumps develop on my labia (the whole time the entry of my vagina is itching like crazy)...but I don't quite itch them per se...I mostly (sorry if this sounds gross) but rub them against my undies....and by the second day, they have been rubbed raw & look blister-like....not oozing pus, but look like a canker sore...then after applying some antibiotics, they go away with in a few days. I know it is not herpes, because I have actually had them scrapped (the ob nurse thought they were herpes) & I also had a full STD blood screening after the first incident & last Feb. incident & both came back negative for all forms of STD. I do get thick, yellowish mucous discharge from this---but no odor.... ..... so what is going on with me????? I almost feel as though I have a yeast infection coupled with cysts? Does anyone have these symptoms? Or know what I'm experiencing? All the conversations on here that I've read didn't mention an itch...and said that their bumps were primarily just bumps...not turning blister like (which I believe is from my "itching"). It has greatly affected my sexual confidence even though I have the same partner:( And I don't feel like I can talk to him about it because I feel mortified by what I think he might think about it:(

Hi there
I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who posted on this thread. I found a lump inside my right labia minora two days ago, and since there was no page on NHS direct that discussed my situation I was freaking out a bit - I'm only twenty and a slight hospital-phobe. However reading these posts led me to the sitz bath and hot compress thing and it worked like a charm! In case anyone is looking on here wondering what to do about their own cyst I'll just describe what I did.
I sat in the bath with a few inches of hot water and played an album on my ipod in full - about thirty five mins in my case - and immediately pressed a warm towel on the cyst, and within about ten minutes it had popped. The pop wasn't painful or explosive like popping a big spot, I didn't even feel it. I then applied a little pressure with my fingers (make sure you've washed your hands first!) and squeezed out what was inside. Initialy the fluid was a very pale brown and tinged with a small amount of blood but soon it ran clear. I don't think I've managed to get everything out of it but the cyst is significantly smaller and more comfortable, so I'll repeat the process again this evening, and probably twice a day until it goes away entirely.
So again, thank you very much to everyone who posted on here; now I know how common labial cysts are and how to treat them myself, I'm much more at ease.
p.s. whatever you do, don't use a white towel. Oops!

Hi everyone,
I did some research on cysts in and around the perineal area and I found this; Bartholin's Cyst.

I like the explanation of this and I believe that this is what we have. I have found that the bump will hurt until it bursts or drains. I found a way to get them to burst with less to no pain. I have a detatchable showerhead in my bathroom, and to get thisbump/cyst to burst is to sit in the tub with hot water, as warm as you can stand, hitting the area for 3 to 5 minutes. After awhile you canput some pressure on it and it will drain, or burst much more easily than any other way. This makes sense that I have them less when I am sexually active, because the circulation for that area is increased at that time. I understand that there may be some cooralation to STDs but not in my case. Mine is not STD related, or instigated. I have had two partiners in my life and they were both STD free. The second is my husband of 8 +years. I know that I would want to know what is going on and why So here is what I believe is causing the bumps that we have gotten. Hope this helps.

It seems that there are two differant " lumps" us females suffer from - the can pop, filled with puss kind and or the hard, painful to apply pressure, solid lump that sits under the skin and looks white in color when pressed against skin. I have suffered from both, have had surgery to remove one ( reletively painless). I currently have the hard solid lump on the right side, It has been there with no change for about 3 years. I have seen my gyno ( he did the surgery on the first) and numerous GP's they all assure me that it is a very normal accurance in females and non cancerous ( can only say that for mine, PLEASE consult you doctor for your own peice of mind) I have had a GP attempt to lance the hard lump but she could not penetrate the lump to numb it... That's how hard it is.
I too when first discovered lumps went straight to worst possible senerio, balling my eyes out at GP's and Gyno thinking I had some horrid STD. I am really self conscious of it and stress about a partner feeling it, then them thinking I have some STD and then having to try and explain to a male who has no concept of female issues.... it's ok, it's only a cyst.
We have all been led to this page searching for an answer, looking for a cure or the reassurance that we are not the only ones in the world that have these "lumps" I know even after being told by my gyno " it's common" I still felt I was the only one.
So I say.... from this site we all learn and realise WE ARE NORMAL, THESE LUMPS ARE A NORMAL PART OF BEING A FEMALE, no matter what shape, size, soft, hard, lumps we have, at some stage maybe every female in the world will stumble apon a harmless lump. Because nobody wants to think they are differant, I guess this is not a topic easily talked about amung other.
Please anyone young or old if you have any concerns or just want reassurance, go see a doctor or gyno... I know ( been there) its not a comftable conversation to have with them, but just remember they see and deal with this stuff everyday... The body is a strange thing. Hope this helps someone as the words on this page have helped me

Hi ladies!
I've had the same thing on my right labia for a couple of days now. I found this site in my efforts to find out what it was and how to treat it. After looking around I decided to give the lump a little squeeze- a bit of it started to swell, and after applying a bit more pressure it just popped like a zit! That was just a few minutes ago, and it's already started to feel (marginally) better. I'm hoping that this is the end of it, but I'll be sure to update either way. Hopefully it just goes away now!
