I have had depression since 2000. My husband doesn't understand it. I have been taking Seroquel for awhile again  and my husband thinks Seroquel makes me goofy. For me I can feel that it helps me alot and it really helps me sleep. I had tried other depression meds with no prevail. How do you make a person understand that you have a medical disorder and how you feel ? I had been through a therapist, group and I'm done with them.  I fight with him for no reason sometimes.Any suggestions ?

Hi, I feel for you. Depression really sucks and it is so hard to explain to others what it is like. There is a good book called "living with the black dogs" or something like that to explain to partners of people with depression what it feels like. Also, if he is willing to go to your doctor or therapist to discuss it that might help him get some insight. Another place to try is online resources. Try helpguide.org or beyond blue. They both have excellent resources about depression for partners. Of course sitting down and talking to him in a calm moment is best so he can understand you. Also, as hard as depression is for the sufferer it is also very hard on the partner. I hope this helps. Take care

He doesn't really understand my depression and doesn't really care I don't think. If I'm crying one day about missing my dad,he doesn't comfort me at all. When his mother died we all cried but he showed no remorse cause he can't show emotion. So he thinks my medicine makes me goofy.
