Not sure if I am posting this correctly, I'm new to this. But I wanted to share my experience. I am 38 with a 15 yr old son and 13 yr old daughter. I had my IUD put in in 2004. I had it removed in 2005 to try and conceive. It took 9 months, but I was not counting or watching the calendar. I was letting what happened happen. We had a baby girl Jan 2007. She wasn't due until Mar 2008, but came prematurly due to me having a uterine "window". I had a c-section and they repaired the thin "window" so that I could have another baby in the future. We are now trying for #4. I had my IUD removed in Aug 2008 and my period right after. It was horrible. The second one (Sept) was very bad too but better than the first. The last two (Oct and I just got off Nov cycle) were VERY normal. My doc said it would take 3-6 months to get pregnant after having the IUD removed. We are hoping maybe over the holidays the miracle will happen. If not come January we are going to try Clomid. I want to reassure everyone that each experience is different as we all have different bodies. Relax, enjoy and it will happen. I have had to give myself a big dose of patience as well. My doc assures me that everything is on track. Again remember I am 38. I had IUD prior to pregnancy and after.

Thank you Guest for the reassurance, it will happen in God's time, I know it will...I've given it to him...as much as I have allowed myself to anyway.

I just had my iud removed 10-13-08, and prior to removal I read TONS of horror stories about people not concieving right away. I was SURE it would take months.

I started a period 10-15, and got a + HPT on 11-17! I'm proof that you CAN become pregnant right after removal. I told my ob about what I've read, and he assured me that every womens body is different. You can't read about other womens expirences, as you probly won't be exactly the same.

Just know that it is possible, just give it time! I wish everyone here the BEST of luck!

I had my Mirena removed at the 5 year mark. That was one year and four months ago! I took the pill to regualte periods for 3 months. So, it's been 13 months of trying. NOTHING! We have read in-depth articles, hints, etc. We have taken vitamins, changed our excersize and eating habits, sexual habits, tracked cycles by the day. The Mirena being the cause never even occured to me until now. So what can we do now? How do you get a doctor to take you seriously? Can the "damage" be reversed? I have children, my husband does not. He is taking this very well, but I know his heart breaks even more than mine when my PMS symptoms start showing. Please tell me where to start!

I had my iud removed October 28, 2008. I wish I would have never had it put it. I had one real period a couple of weeks later and spotting ever since. The couple of days i'm not spotting, im super dry so I know I'm not ovulating.

My husband and I are trying to have a baby but since I had the Mirena, I know it will be a while or difficult. My cycle is all screwed up. I should have had another period today since its been 4 weeks but I also just stopped spotting a couple of days ago. THis sucks. i'm afraid to take the pill to regulate my period because I will just be putting more hormones in my body and it will take even longer to conceive. Has anyone else spotted between periods like this? STUPID MIRENA!!!!!! :-S

I am new to this discussion group, but wanted to share my experience. I had the Mirena IUD for the full 5 years; I had it removed in November 08. I had experienced serious pressure on my bladder causing frequent urination and had some sexual side effects...I spent years (literally) thinking something was wrong with me (sexually)...turns out the IUD was causing extreme discomfort during intercourse. I noticed a dramatic difference in my body when the IUD was removed. I am not trying to discredit the IUD in any way, I think that it is exceptional for some and not so much for others...just want to let people know my experience.

After having the IUD removed (2 weeks after), I found out I was pregnant. My husband and I were trying so we had found out very early. About 3 days after my first positive pregnancy test, I began having what seemed to be a menstrual cycle; I say "seemed to be" because it had been 5 years since I had one. Since, I have been experiencing irregular bleeding and the last pregnancy test I took showed declining levels of the pregnancy hormone. I believe I had a miscarriage or chemical pregnancy? I am not sure what the difference is. Has anyone else had this type of experience? I do not currently have medical insurance and it is hard enough (being the holidays) to come up with extra money for an unnecessary? doctors visit. My husband and I have had unprotected sex since the miscarriage/chem. preg. and I am very concerned about becoming pregnant too soon. Any advice, suggestions, or comments? Thanks in advance...

i have an iud that got put in about almost 3 years ago. for some reason i always thought that it could play a role in possibly lowering my chances of getting pregnant when it is removed, (thats why i am on this website) i am 21 years old and ive never had a baby. for me this is very scary and im almost sure that im going to get it removed because i am so scared of not being able to get pregnant...i cant wait to have a baby it is something ive looked forward to almost my whole life and i dont want to take ANY chances when it comes to lowering my chance of getting pregnant after it is removed, i dont know what to do!!!????!!!!

My boyfriend and I were planning on getting married in April '09 and trying to get pregnant right around that same time. I have a son that will be 3 in Feb '09 from a previous marriage. We did not want to many years between children so we had agreed that I should get my IUD removed during my 11-20-08 annual exam. I had heard so many stories of women not being able to get pregnant for months or years and it scared us. I had my IUD for a little over a year.
So I had it removed on 11-20-08 and spotted a little, waited for my period, nothing, took a home pregnancy test on 12-14-08 and it was positive. I took 2 more and all were positive. I am due around 8-20-09! I am still in shock. We are very happy, it just happened a little sooner than we had planned.
So don't listen to all of the scary stories, there are some women that get pregnant immediately!

I am glad to hear that some of you have had successful pregnancies after Mirena. I hope to hear more success stories. Unfortunately I am not one of those people. I am 31 years old and had Mirena for about a year. I did get pregnant within a couple months but have had two miscarriages this year. Both times I lost the baby at around 10 weeks. If any one has had successful pregnancies after Mirena please share your story. : )

I had my IUD removed in May of 2006 and have had nothing but complications since. It was in for 6 years . Is it normal? Well my doctor said it was a fluke to be expirienecing PCOS ( poly cystic ovarian sydrome) after the removal. For the first year I went w/o a period then finally I started having speratic periods. Now I have periods but they are so heavy and long and never come when they are suppose to. Which makes it hard to try to plan ovultion I have tried everything. I was told after the removal I would be able to get pregnant its been 2 1/2 years and nothing. >;)

I can relate to everything you said... I also would like to know what is going on with my body and if the Mirena has anything to do with it. I know this was posted almost a year ago, but was hoping you have found something out that may be helpful. Best wishes!

I had Mirena in for almost the full 5 yrs. I had it removed Nov 2007. After that I was diagnosed with PCOS and have problems ovulating. I only have one child and he turned 6yrs old last Sunday. We've been trying now for over a year with no luck. I too get depressed when I get a negative pregnacy test. I was also scared of getting pregnant right after getting off Mirena because of the miscarriage rate. I hadn't thought of going on birth control to get me on track. Thanks for the advice and I will try that. This is a great site and thanks for all your inputs. I agree that everyone has different experiences but we give each other comfort that we are not alone and hope that we too can find our baby bliss.
